Love you did this song by an artist who is in a genre all of her own. This is so beautiful and emotional. Try Running Up That Hill next please I have no idea who Maxwell is but this is the original
Kate Bush is one of the best singer songwriters of all time. She was discovered by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. Her worst song is ten times better than anybody currently recording.
Love me some Kate Bush but this comment is pretty rough. There is actually ALOT of good music being put out. In fact, from a mainstream perspective, last 10 years have been the strongest since the first half of the 90s
@@codynorden2203 I agree with oakhill found's comment 100%. There has been some great music out currently, but you have to hunt for it, and frankly none of it is on the same level as Kate's genius. The majority of today's music is pablum for the masses.
Movie director John Hughes (who was directing "She's Having A Baby" with Kevin Bacon) called Kate and asked her if she would compose a song for the hospital scene when Bacon's wife and baby were in serious trouble in the delivery room. Kate agreed and wrote and recorded this song in a very short time time period. She composed it from the father's viewpoint. Kate is an absolute genius.
Agree with all the comments...that movie is memorable for three things, the ending credits with all the stars suggesting names, Alec Baldwin is freaking awesome in a kinda throwaway movie, and the scene with this song. It really does bring you to tears...
I have been a KT fan since I was 13... and I turn 56 this year! She is, and always will be unique - a poet in every song, beautiful in thought and face. There will never be another. 💜💜
I never heard of Maxwell until the video popped up in my UA-cam feed when I was listening to Kate. I listened to Maxwell's version. It was good. But Kate's original is on another level....it's haunting, beautiful layers to it, it stirs the soul, it stays with you long after you hear it, and she sings with the voice out of this world. She's my all-time favourite musical artist.
Same here. It’s impressed that he didn’t transpose it down, pretty tough for a guy to sing that high. It suits a female voice much better imho. Kate’s version is obviously superior, but then again I’m extremely biased. I’ve had a crush for Kate since I was sixteen, and I was sixteen a long, long time ago.
Kate's version does something to me. Moves me in a way that I can't really explain. That said I think Maxwell is a fantastic artist and did a great cover. He's also singing live and it still sounds amazing.
Maxwell mentioned that Kate Bush wrote and performed this song first in his "Unplugged" concert, but many people clearly missed that fact. As a long time Kate Bush fan since 1980, when this song played in the film "She's Having A Baby" I was floored. People should watch that film for the full context and impact of this.
I’m amazed that this song didn’t make it over the pond. Kate is an British icon, as mad as a box of frogs, a truly unique artist. We’ve known since the late 70’s how good she is, and now the rest of the world is catching up.
Kate not only wrote, arranged, and recorded the song, but she was the director and cinematographer for the video. In the middle of it, there is an incredible scene in which she is sitting at dinner wth Tim McInerny and she collapses, he carries her to a car, moves around to the wheel, gets out to follow her gurney into the hospital --- and it is ONE UNCUT scene! The technical demands of performing and capturing that on camera are just incredible!
Absolutely beautiful voice. Kate stole my heart 48 Years ago... Man With a Child in His Eyes sealed the deal... Running Up That Hill, Cloud Bursting, Whuthring Heights Love her....

Priceless reaction! This song was written for a movie "She's having a baby" Maxwell sang great too but Kate's version always gives me chills, I know this song for years, Placebo covered her song also Running Up That Hill, they twisted very good too.❤️✌🏻
The video conveys the storyline of the movie where Kevin Bacon is getting his pregnant girl to the hospital to deliver their baby and there are complications where she may die. That's why the video is showing a man in the waiting room and a nurse going up to him giving him news of what's happening with the baby and the mother. The line "This woman's work" is referring to giving birth. "I know you have a little life in you yet" refers to the baby.
@@Scary__fun Well the little life can also be just that as in a little life force or energy, the will to live, to survive because the mother's life, as well as the baby's, was in jeopardy, a vulnerable situation where she and the baby could both die.
Me too, Lyn. Greatest concert of my life, and it won't be bettered. She is a true genius, and Before The Dawn is pretty much the greatest artistic event I've attended.

If you want to know how much a genius Kate is, try 'The Man with the Child in his Eyes' which she wrote when she was merely 14 (some say younger)...and Maxwell's cover was phenomenal, it truly was, covering Kates work is no mean feat, and he excelled...but the original, is still a level above that brilliant cover.
Maxwell's cover (official video) of this song was my first introduction. Then I heard his incredible, emotional unplugged MTV performance of this where he gave props to Kate Bush. That's what led me to discover her and I'm glad I did. I love both artists.
The scene from the film this music was written for always has me in floods of tears. The helplessness of him not being able to help his wife when her labour goes wrong and him reflecting back on his life with her. The song elevates the scene so well.
Especially since they fought so much and seemed unhappy a lot, then when he might lose her we finally see the good times they had and why they loved each other. A good reminder to everyone to appreciate the people you love.
To Maxwell’s credit, early in his career when he had burst onto the scene, Kate Bush was one of the artists he was quite vehement in giving props to whenever he was asked in interviews about his musical influences.
It's amazing that you got the point of view of the song correct. Kate was asked to write a song for the scene in a movie called She's Having A Baby where the father was told his wife is having complications with her giving birth and that she may be having a breach birth where the child's feet are coming out first. He is waiting in the hospital's waiting room when this song plays and we see all of the happy times that they had together and he is feeling uncertain and stressed and a sense of remorse for being immature. The song is from his point of view. Great reaction!
Jean Lawley She does actually. Usually on B-sides, such as Donovan's "Lord Of Reedy River" on the flip side of "Sat In Your Lap". She has a whole album of covers called "Others Words". I have it as part of a 4 album remastered series.
This is an amazingly beautiful song. the fact that you connected with it through Maxwell's cover, like many people did, just shows not only Kate Bush's songwriting prowess but the fact that it was such a relatable idea that people were able to grasp onto. I cry every time I hear this song.
Finally Kate is finally getting the recognition here in the US that she had in England! Now that Running up that hill hit # one ! Personally I love, MOMENTS OF PLEASURE. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL 😍
Kate wrote about 200 songs. Her style is theatrical. She started a company at 19 for a concert. Her shows were often times sold out. Her voice has a wide range. My favorite song is A Sensual World. This was covered by Maxwell about 8yrs after this fantastic tune was released. Watch Maxwell sing this live(which is an excellent cover) he pay homage to Kate Bush by saying "she is the bomb."
Don't feel weird about so much of the music you know being based on older hits. That was big part of the basis of modern DJing at the start, and that heavily influenced Hip Hop and Rap. It started with DJ's doing cool overlap/mashups of hits, and then the bits and pieces got smaller and smaller, and the songs more and more obscure, and the new connecting pieces got longer and longer. And around the time that whole movement was half way developed would be roughly around the time you would have really started listening to popular music.

This is such an emotional song. I remember hearing it in the movie "She's Having a Baby" (1988) and my eyes tearing up and trying hard to make sure my wife didn’t see me. Although it is a “Comedy” for the most part, it deals with a very serious subject towards the end. Spoiler Alert Ahead: The song is playing when Kevin Bacon's character's wife is having life threatening issues giving birth to their first child. Kate wrote the song specifically for that movie and for that part with the husband waiting in the waiting room of the hospital not knowing if his wife and child will make it. It is a song from the man's point of view. Thinking back about all the regrets he has about their relationship. How he thinks about how he should have done things differently. How he wants a second chance to do things so much better and not take his wife for granted again. His thoughts about how precious her life is and how much he truly loves her. This reminds me to appreciate my wife a lot more. And by listening to this song, it as if I have lived this and now have a second chance to do better and do the things with her and for her so I don't have regrets later in life. You would have to be a robot to not show emotion once you understand the meaning behind this song and listen to the lyrics. I have heard many beautiful covers but no one can sing it with the emotion that Kate can.
It's amazing watching your reaction to a song who you thought belonged to Maxwell, (you're right, he did a dang good cover), and then the look of shock writ across your face when you realise that you were now listening to the original. Kate Bush is in a league of her own, an extraordinary singer/song writer. Your reactions as always are beautiful, and continue to make me smile. Thank you 👍👏👏👏
The uk actor with Kate is a young Tim McInnerny who went on to do things like Blackadder,Dr who & the film Notting hill with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts.
I only found out about Kate Bush a decade ago or so, but I loved her immediately. When I came across "This Womans Work" I knew it as a Maxwell song as well, and as much as I do love Kate Bush, I love Maxwell's version. Perhaps it's merely because that is the first version I heard. Hers does have an emotion behind it, but she is an incredible artist worth deep diving into. Her live performances were over the top and very theatrical, a great fun to watch!
This is 100% Kate's song, written by her totally. So many artists are more often than not covering older originals with their own twist. Of course without the original there would have been no song.

Kate Bush is awesome!!
Welcome to the original and the wonderful Kate Bush
In my last comment I got it wrong the actor donald sutherland is actually in the video "Cloudbusting" which is absolutely fantastic.
This is Kates song Maxwell covered it Kate Bush is a musical genius.
Chills chills chills
From the bottom of my heart,Thank you for listening to the amazing Kate Bush. X
My medication anything and everything by Kate Bush I never ever get tired of listening to her again and again
It was originally released in 1988. Shes having a baby the movie.
This is 100% Kate's song, written by her totally. So many artists are more often than not covering older originals with their own twist. Of course without the original there would have been no song.
No song can make me cry like a little baby than this one( Kate's) and I'm a grown man.
Ohh yay. Wondered when you’d do this… Jeez ..Kidding 💜 but thanks for the reaction JAYY
