One doubt: you say at the end that the LUFS in your song touched -5.2. Will this not be trimmed by UA-cam, which does not allow more than -14 ? This is always my confusion: I am able to produce loud and bright music with an LUFS of -5 or so. But when I run the Stats for Nerds, it gives a reading of something like 100% / 37% As a result, I bring down the loudness of my song to match the limit of -14 or so. Please enlighten.
True, UA-cam will turn the loudness down but still if you listen to tracks on Spotify and UA-cam. Some sound louder than the other, which means even though their(streaming platforms) aim is to make everything sound at similar levels, but the tracks still sound different. you're correct that Spotify applies loudness normalization to bring all tracks to around -14 LUFS, so in theory, a track mastered at -5 LUFS should be brought down in volume to match one mastered at -14 LUFS. But there can be a few reasons why -5 might sound louder: One reason is due to perceived loudness - there is measured loudness and then there is perceived loudness. Which means the loudness of the track depend on more than just lufs, due to heavy compression and limiting the -5 track can sound punchier and more “in your face” than the -14 lufs track. Which can be perceived as louder. Compression reduces the dynamic range, making the quieter parts of a song closer in volume to the louder parts. As a result, even after normalization, the track might feel louder because it lacks quieter sections, giving the impression of more constant energy. This happens because loud tracks, even after normalization, can retain a "dense" sound with fewer quiet moments.
@@snehprod.425 Thanks for your detailed reply. I have been using compression with some success, especially I use multipresser to bring out the tonal quality of my voice by suppressing the high end. But, I am not able to tackle some of the problems to my complete satisfaction. Perhaps, as I watch more and more of your videos, I will get solutions. Also, perhaps, I need to upgrade my system. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. .I always look forward to your videos with keen expectation.
