      This is my first time watching this channel, but I can definitely say it was worth watching this whole video as it interviews a childhood hero of mine, but Flynn has changed my mindset about Trevor with this interview, he's still a hero but for a different reason. RIP Strnad.

    Unless you live with depression, you'll never know the struggle to just live your life. I have survived for 44 years and can say I fully understand what Trevor went thru in his final moments. The pandemic took away the one thing keeping him alive, companionship. Isolation is the worst thing for a person suffering from depression. The thing about Trevor is his illness motivated him to impress others positively. Social media is NOT a healthy replacement for real-world interaction.

      Maybe he meant in public and not this interview. When you watch him on stage, in the docs, and in short interviews, he did seem to be enjoying life more than anyone. To me, that was part of the allure: not just wearing metal on your sleeve, but projecting that love out through smiles in between growls and a boyish enthusiasm that is not often seen in metal performers. That is the damned thing about mental health and depression. Even if that was all genuine, it was hiding much darker things.

      I'm pretty sure he did, the unfortunate thing about depression is your mind is constantly racing with bad thoughts that block out all the good in the world. It's a battle I face everyday and it never gets easier. Metal, weed and low doses of fungus help a lot w it.

    • @EricJh21690
      @EricJh21690 Рік тому +1

      @Jeffmetal42 yep he certainly knew...and he loved everyone back. Sometimes a lot of the shit when it comes to mental health is sorta impossible for people who haven't experienced it to understand. It's also pretty hard to accurately explain it to someone, even if you experience struggles yourself. I've got my own demons with severe anxiety, varying levels of depression, and addiction. Everyday is a battle, and some days are easier than others...all we who struggle with those demons can do is to battle that shit one day or even one minute at a time. Find what things help and avoid what tends to trigger/make things worse. RIP to Trev, and the countless others the world has lost to the demons of mental illness/addiction etc.

    I remember that 2005 show with Arch Enemy, Shadows Fall, The Haunted, All That Remains, In Flames and Black Dahlia Murder opening. Trevor was wearing a modest mouse shirt, lol. It threw me off. We walked in, me and my buddies and he's up there giving the metal claw to the crowd with big glasses and a modest mouse shirt. Keep in mind, this was my first metal show. What a time, man. Cincinnati, Ohio. Bogarts. I think I bought Miasma at that show.

    It's interesting Trevor says that drinking too much creates anxiety for him. I smoked weed for over 20 years non-stop, wake and bake and smoke all day right up until bedtime. I started drinking like 8 years ago, and I was forced to cut way down on smoking to the point where I can't take more than a hit or two from a pipe (no more bongs), because I get massive anxiety attacks. I still drink in the evenings, but it doesn't seem to give me anxiety, even though I know I drink too much. My point is that it seems like it doesn't matter what drug you are overusing, eventually your body will decide it's time for you to pay for it. The best thing you can do is be okay with being sober, I'm like 2 years younger than Trevor (at the time of his passing) and the turn into middle age is a bigger deal than people make it out to be, especially when you basically still live like a kid and don't have your own kids.

    • @kitpalmer1583

      As a stubborn alcoholic who's drinking lite beer as I write this, the bulk of the anxiety in my experience is the day after.
      Part of it is if you're worried you've done something dumb/embarrassing or whatever, but my therapist explained to me that there's an actual chemical process going on in the brain when you drink which reduces your anxiety, and then the next day your body tries to correct that imbalance so you just get extremely anxious and fragile (at least I do, being prone to anxiety anyway).
      Apologies for my awful explanation but it's something people who drink a lot should look into x

    I just saw that Trevor has passed at the age of 41. The statement put out by the band included the number for the national suicide prevention hotline. I was never a massive Black Dahlia Murder fan. I admit thats probably because I haven't sat down and listen to a lot of it. There is no doubt they were a great band, just a little heavier than I usually like. I do know this though, this is a HUGE loss for not only Trevor's family, friends and bandmates, but also for the metal community as a whole. RIP Trevor. I hope you found whatever peace you couldn't find here

    Classical music and heavy music in general shows the deepness and caring about the individual. Lots of music is deep. But I think metal really grabs the whole perspective of what it is to be human.

    I love this dude. We ALL loved Trevor. I saw TBDM by chance at The House of Blues in Orlando Fl. 2003. Trevor came out and by the second song his shirt was off with his "heartburn" tattoo and casting spells on the audience right above me. I could not believe how he shifted between fry and growl so fast and effortlessly. I was into death metal genres for long before that concert, yet I instantly knew this dude with a bowl haircut flinging sweat on me was special.... changed my brain forever. He spoke about his mental health openly in one of his last interviews. He said how he didn't always feel like he deserved his praise for TBDM or his contribution. He must have been suffering so much to end his own life. I wish I could have been there to cut him down and tell him how much he has given the metal community and if he didn't ever do anything with TBDM or music that he would still be equally loved and respected. The lockdowns have claimed another victim.
    Much love Trevor!
    RIP Homie.
