RIP Trevor :( Such a huge loss to the metalworld..i cannot even express how much this sucks.Condoloences to all his family, bandmates, and friends. Much respect from Norway ,Stefan
This is my first time watching this channel, but I can definitely say it was worth watching this whole video as it interviews a childhood hero of mine, but Flynn has changed my mindset about Trevor with this interview, he's still a hero but for a different reason. RIP Strnad.
Unless you live with depression, you'll never know the struggle to just live your life. I have survived for 44 years and can say I fully understand what Trevor went thru in his final moments. The pandemic took away the one thing keeping him alive, companionship. Isolation is the worst thing for a person suffering from depression. The thing about Trevor is his illness motivated him to impress others positively. Social media is NOT a healthy replacement for real-world interaction.
Maybe he meant in public and not this interview. When you watch him on stage, in the docs, and in short interviews, he did seem to be enjoying life more than anyone. To me, that was part of the allure: not just wearing metal on your sleeve, but projecting that love out through smiles in between growls and a boyish enthusiasm that is not often seen in metal performers. That is the damned thing about mental health and depression. Even if that was all genuine, it was hiding much darker things.
I'm pretty sure he did, the unfortunate thing about depression is your mind is constantly racing with bad thoughts that block out all the good in the world. It's a battle I face everyday and it never gets easier. Metal, weed and low doses of fungus help a lot w it.
@Jeffmetal42 yep he certainly knew...and he loved everyone back. Sometimes a lot of the shit when it comes to mental health is sorta impossible for people who haven't experienced it to understand. It's also pretty hard to accurately explain it to someone, even if you experience struggles yourself. I've got my own demons with severe anxiety, varying levels of depression, and addiction. Everyday is a battle, and some days are easier than others...all we who struggle with those demons can do is to battle that shit one day or even one minute at a time. Find what things help and avoid what tends to trigger/make things worse. RIP to Trev, and the countless others the world has lost to the demons of mental illness/addiction etc.
I remember that 2005 show with Arch Enemy, Shadows Fall, The Haunted, All That Remains, In Flames and Black Dahlia Murder opening. Trevor was wearing a modest mouse shirt, lol. It threw me off. We walked in, me and my buddies and he's up there giving the metal claw to the crowd with big glasses and a modest mouse shirt. Keep in mind, this was my first metal show. What a time, man. Cincinnati, Ohio. Bogarts. I think I bought Miasma at that show.
That’s so cool man. I remember that lineup. Unfortunately I missed The black dahlia murder because they played an early set in Albuquerque. I remember hearing I’m Charming in the distance as I was waiting in line at the front gates. That was the last song they played on their set. Damn, There was soo many people, I couldn’t get in fast enough. 😂 I bought Miasma the next day.. R.I.P TREVOR!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
It's interesting Trevor says that drinking too much creates anxiety for him. I smoked weed for over 20 years non-stop, wake and bake and smoke all day right up until bedtime. I started drinking like 8 years ago, and I was forced to cut way down on smoking to the point where I can't take more than a hit or two from a pipe (no more bongs), because I get massive anxiety attacks. I still drink in the evenings, but it doesn't seem to give me anxiety, even though I know I drink too much. My point is that it seems like it doesn't matter what drug you are overusing, eventually your body will decide it's time for you to pay for it. The best thing you can do is be okay with being sober, I'm like 2 years younger than Trevor (at the time of his passing) and the turn into middle age is a bigger deal than people make it out to be, especially when you basically still live like a kid and don't have your own kids.
Man you nailed it. Just know you're not the only one bro. Same stuff here. Its alright brother we got to live for us. Can't be concerned with what we think others perceive us to be. Waste of time in the end. Be safe friend.
As a stubborn alcoholic who's drinking lite beer as I write this, the bulk of the anxiety in my experience is the day after. Part of it is if you're worried you've done something dumb/embarrassing or whatever, but my therapist explained to me that there's an actual chemical process going on in the brain when you drink which reduces your anxiety, and then the next day your body tries to correct that imbalance so you just get extremely anxious and fragile (at least I do, being prone to anxiety anyway). Apologies for my awful explanation but it's something people who drink a lot should look into x
Hey man, thanks for this comment. Really eye opening. Dealing with my own battles with alcohol. Your comment makes a lot of sense… also, I’m a huge TBDM fan. Saw them in Tokyo, Japan where I met Brian Eschbach in an alley while he was on his way to the show I was going to see and then in fucking Joliet, IL where I saw an early Brandon Ellis shredding in the fold
Had to come back and view this after hearing the news yesterday. Thanks for doing this interview Robb, it’s a sad day but one for reflection and to appreciate the kindness and genius that Trevor was. TBDM and Death Metal forever.
With the sad 1 year anniversary coming up, had to listen to that interview again... miss the guy... still can't believe it... Rest In Peace Dear Trevor!
Oh boy, my goodness! So sad to hear about the passing of Trevor Strnad today, such a young man and down the Earth guy y'all can hear from this interview right there. Great extreme METAL singer, great talent such as Riley Gale, Joey Jordison were and so on left this world too early. NIGHTBRINGERS and EVERBLACK are my favorite albums... R.I.P. TREVOR STRNAD🤘
I just saw that Trevor has passed at the age of 41. The statement put out by the band included the number for the national suicide prevention hotline. I was never a massive Black Dahlia Murder fan. I admit thats probably because I haven't sat down and listen to a lot of it. There is no doubt they were a great band, just a little heavier than I usually like. I do know this though, this is a HUGE loss for not only Trevor's family, friends and bandmates, but also for the metal community as a whole. RIP Trevor. I hope you found whatever peace you couldn't find here
Classical music and heavy music in general shows the deepness and caring about the individual. Lots of music is deep. But I think metal really grabs the whole perspective of what it is to be human.
Heartbreaking news... I'm so glad and grateful we have this excellent NFR episode to remember Trevor by. My thoughts are with his family and friends. 🖤 Take care everyone and make sure to look after your mental health!
I saw BDM in a small venue in upstate NY 11 or 12 years ago and it was incredible. The mosh pit was friendly and brutal. I always like the band. It pains me that only now since Trevors passing am I doing a deeper dive. What an incredible loss. I look forward to going back over each album and give a more appreciative listening.
Dude. Fucking traumatic really. Still sad about it... fml. Just to mention, Andrew Murray is the name of my great grandfather and I'm Andrew and my legendary dad was called Murray lol. I'm Andrew John and he was John Murray, we kinda all just use Andrew, John and Murray historically in my family.
Sooo sad Im guttted, thanks for having this to view and am watching after seeing your recent vid about him, love the stories and the history and music both of you have blessed us with. RIP TREVOR
I love this dude. We ALL loved Trevor. I saw TBDM by chance at The House of Blues in Orlando Fl. 2003. Trevor came out and by the second song his shirt was off with his "heartburn" tattoo and casting spells on the audience right above me. I could not believe how he shifted between fry and growl so fast and effortlessly. I was into death metal genres for long before that concert, yet I instantly knew this dude with a bowl haircut flinging sweat on me was special.... changed my brain forever. He spoke about his mental health openly in one of his last interviews. He said how he didn't always feel like he deserved his praise for TBDM or his contribution. He must have been suffering so much to end his own life. I wish I could have been there to cut him down and tell him how much he has given the metal community and if he didn't ever do anything with TBDM or music that he would still be equally loved and respected. The lockdowns have claimed another victim. Much love Trevor! RIP Homie.
Great interview! 2 of my favorites metal guys in a interview! Just epic! Thanks for that Robb! Shout out to Trevor! Can't wait to see you live in Montreal next October! Edit: My heart ache listening this interview again... you'll be sorely miss Trevor! Still can't believe it!
Very sad about Trevor, in all I see and read he was a great guy and will be sorely missed. But Rob, if I can just tell you something.... I think Beyond the Pale is one of the greatest most driving metal jams ever. I've been listening to MH consistently and just keep finding major jams and crushing riffs one after another. Keep it coming brotha!?
Aww man… I wish he never did what he did. I’m sad listening to this podcast. Thanks Rob for having him on your show. We all love him dearly and we all definitely miss him.. I’m sorry Trevor. 💐💐💐
Gotta respect Homie's courage for saying Slayer didn't stay the course a and went nu metal @ times in comparison to cannibal corpse consistency. Michiganders got balls and shoot from the hip.
This was a fun episode (like they all are). The insights of touring is insane, I always thought touring was a breeze with no stress hijinks. Definitely going to pick up some Black Dahlia!
I saw that metal injection interview last year, this is a much healthier sounding Trevor. Happy for dude, and I’m happy for the success they’re having on this tour selling out dates already 🤘
I hope Trevor and Robb read this, you guys are genuine amazing fellas, I’m gonna get real, I know there are some shadows on both of your shoulders, but I must tell you, your craft through music has helped someone like me with many shadows push through the wall of light! You guys rock, don’t dwell don’t remain in a slump, realize your both legends take a step back and remember that and the “scene” has your back if there are things you gotta work through get it out there, to many “legends” go before there time, we need you guys! Lol stay up don’t mind the shit talkers, literally people who talk shit on lone are the most foul and shouldn’t care for there opinions…there not buying your tickets…fuck em lol.
It’s really rough knowing I wrote this knowing and seeing the signs, wanting to help in a way I only know how to and it still happened. RIP Trevor, I listened to all TBDM on my vinyls the day you passed, I hope you are drinking ale from curved horns with LG Petrov in Valhalla. 🔥⚔️🐺⚔️🐺⚔️🔥
