In a previous episode Allura and Kima said that Syngorn was indeed gone from Tal'dorei, Kima even said something along the lines of elves being cowards, implying that they left to weather the dragon disaster elsewhere in safety. Percy's glove, named Diplomacy, was made in the final part of season 1 after he shot a hole in his hand during the battle with his inner demon.
At the moment Vax is still trying to accept his new role, he's getting visions of people that have died and he's having an understandably hard time seeing his future as anything but dark and evil. It played out a bit differently in the campaign than in the series, but to give a bit of extra layers: Liam (the actor behind Vax) was considering leveling up as a paladin (a warrior dedicated to serving a god in dnd) to preface this he'd been talking to Pike and hinting that Vax was interested in the Everlight (originally a goddess of redemption). Instead Vex died and he said what he said to the Raven Queen, and Matt and Liam rolled with it and made him a paladin of the Raven Queen instead, a goddess of Death. So in the campaign he felt like he'd been an assassin finally choosing a different path, one of light and second chances, and instead he got stuck becoming a dealer of Death for an unknown amount of time. In truth the Raven Queen isn't evil, but since he saw her nearly take his sister it's going to take him a while to see past that prejudice so the goddess can tell him what his duties are.
Percy picks up a stick early on, it develops 3 snake heads. He tries to defend Vax, a 3 headed snake attacks him. Garmelei draws him with a three headed snake for a penii.
I think somebody is trying to tell him something. Twice is a coincidence, three times is a message.
We saw Percy with Diplomacy at the very end of S1E12, using the residuum he'd placed in the hole he'd shot in his hand.
Lady Kima had told them that Syngorn had disappeared back in episode 5. You'll find out more in next episode.
Vax is the new Champion. It did feel like in that one scene he's meant to act as a psychopomp. It sure felt like Purvan Suul was Champion until his death, and he passed the mantle to Vax, so Vax may be on that path. One person pointed out that everything in the Fey Realm is alive, so introducing the concept of death would provoke a negative reaction.
Pass Through the Fire- Allura and Kima mention that Syngorn vanished.
Percy's hand/glove is what he built after shooting himself facing Orthax. This is the first time we get to see it in action.
In campaign, Craven Edge had a different ending because mechanically cursed items are a bit difficult to deal with. People saying it was unbreakable were likely referencing that.
Yeah, last season they stuck fairly closely to the campaign. But they're really changing things up this season. So a lot of things that the veteran Critters know have been changed.
A big part of it is the fact that their 'solution' to Craven Edge depended on plotlines that happened pre-stream, and while it worked at the table, it would've been confusing for viewers.
fun trivia.. the bird at the start of the episode, that gets turn to shreds, is based on Dagon, a bird that Matt Mercer and Marisha Ray (Keyleth and the DM who plays a bunch of roles in the show), had at home.
the animators showed this scene to them and they found it hilarious and then forgot all about it.
then the production went on and some time later, Dagon passed away... only when the episode aired did Matt remember what was in it and both he and Marisha laughed hysterically about it. There's actually a watchalong party held by Critical Role where he tells this anecdote and he still bursts out laughing.
Fun trivia: the song "Makin' my way" is a reference to an ongoing in-joke. There's a song by Vanessa Carleton called "1000 Miles" that starts with the line "Makin' my way downtown,". Back during campaign one (specifically during a special one-shot run by Liam (Vax)), someone made a comment about "making their way" somewhere. Travis and Ashley (Grog & Pike) sang a little parody of a few lines from that song. Over time, the parody has gotten shorter, to the point where now, they just quickly blurt out "makimyway" as a single word.
You can see a supercut here. You might want to skip the second clip. You could pick up a spoiler from it. It starts at about 10 seconds, and goes to about 20 seconds. The rest is spoiler free though. ua-cam.com/video/hK_XHYh8kgw/v-deo.html
11:13 I think that was side effect of the spores.
That bird's gonna what?
Percy nerding out and trying to mansplain everything while being completely wrong is perfect.
Yes, Syngorn transported itself to the Fey Realm.
And yes, it will be interesting to see why the Matron of Ravens would want a living being as her champion. Presumably she'll want him to do something for her.
it moved next episode explains
Yes. A true filler episode. Worst one of series.
A necessary breather in a season that's been nonstop action, emotion, and tragedy from episode one.
Yup. This piece of triple chocolate cake doesn't have as much caramel frosting as the rest of the cake. Just horrible.
