    I will never forget this tragedy and those affected by it. I went to the memorial site on my birthday in 2010 and stopped at every marker to say a prayer. I wanted to take some time out of my day to celebrate the birthdays they will never have again...may they all RIP!

    I got choked up at Ty's son doing charity so people will remember his father. One of the things that scare me most would be to pass away before my daughter is old enough to remember me, since I love her more than I've loved anyone or anything, I'd want her to know me. All these poor children growing up without a parent or both parents just eats me up inside, as well as the ones who still struggle every day with physical and mental disabilities caused by the fire.

    I remember exactly where i was when i heard about this fire. My father had just died and i was in a hotel room going home from emptying his home. We woke up in a hotel and watched the news and saw it. Being a woman that was a teen in the 80’s and having gone to these type of venues and “concerts”, it just shook me knowing i was the age of the ones that died and if this had been near me, i probably would have been there just still messes with my head. The video of that fire and everyone stacked on top of each other at that front door is something I will never forget. God bless all of them. God bless the emergency responders. They ALL have to have PTSD from this event.

      I might've been there too, front row center if I was still living nearby. When I was younger, I used to push myself as close to the stage as possible. Now I know that if I were there & that close to the stage, I would've had a 25% chance of surviving. That's why now something like this reminds me of how precious life is. Don't be afraid to live your life & have lots of experiences, but remember that we never know when our last day will be.

    I had a friend in High School that was severely burned when he was really young. He had over 50 surgeries by that point to restore skin and some muscle movement, and he told me that he would be getting surgeries pretty much for the rest of his life. He would occasionally show me where his skin would crack and bleed whenever he performed movements like reaching up onto a shelf or bending over to pick up things. That was an eye opener for me. Burns are no joke and I wouldn't wish them on anyone.

    I've been thinking about this and other tragedies recently. I hope all clubs in New England and the rest of the US have learned from this (there was a horrible fire in a Russian nightclub in 2009). The video footage from the night of the disaster is so haunting, the opening guitar riffs and seeing the crowd... chilling

      Unfortunately No. I'm a safety advisor and see "deathtraps" right here in my hometown. Clubs and bars that have no sprinklers, over-packed, and owners that are ignorant to the fact. I call up city and public safety officials in my town about what I see, but it seems to go on deaf ears. I just tell people anymore to not go to these venues if its packed.

      +liselle sloan I think that is why there were only 100 killed. Can you imagine if there were mostly people 50 and up? There is NO Way they could have gotten out the windows, or held their breath long enough to get out. NO WAY.

    • @lisellesloan3191
      @lisellesloan3191 8 років тому +2

      +Dale PXP Could well be. Although maybe they would have been less likely to have jammed the front entrance-way. Also, many people that got out of the windows were pulled out, cause even young, healthy people could only endure a few minutes of the cyanide-laced smoke, which was tremendously hot, as well. Then again, older people would have been much less likely to have recovered from the trauma to their bodies that occurred, from the shock and the toxic smoke inhalation that caused parts of the lungs to die off.

    • @yogadork_namaste
      @yogadork_namaste 8 років тому +4

      +toddles9 yeah he had a friend in the audience he joined, Bill Long. They got trapped in the atrium when the front door exit was no longer viable and bill long barely escaped through the window with his life but unfortunately never saw his friend again. Also worth noting, Ty Longly wasn't officially "great white" he was a session musician who played for the band but couldn't be officially recognized as a great white member for legal reasons, so their musicians couldn't branch out and make other "Great White" bands. I learned that in the book about this tragedy called Killer Show.

    • @lisellesloan3191
      @lisellesloan3191 8 років тому +8

      +Yoga Dork Thank you for clarifying this for people. In some reports, I've read that Ty tried to go back in to save his guitar, which makes him sound foolish. Instead, he was nobly trying to help his friend. Of course, the flashover took place in about 90 seconds, according to reports, making the "band exit" impossible to exit, anyway. The flashover, I've learned, means that gases trapped at the ceiling get so hot, they causes instant combustion in anything flammable, including people. That is a key reason people's heads were on fire, along with falling "black rain" of melting polyfoam.

    • @anthonyadamocashmere1992
      @anthonyadamocashmere1992 7 років тому +6

      I guess, you don't know this, but Mr. Longley, had safely escaped the fire, and made it outside, just fine. But. for some unknown reason, Mr. Longley, went back inside the burning building allegedly, for his guitar, and that is when he was overcome, by the smoke/fire and perished,

      +Goldenrod636 I can't quite figure that out either. But when she was giving her "victim impact statement," in the criminal trial, she was listed as "Heidi Peralta Longley," where, of course, one has to use one's legal name. All I can imagine is she legally changed her name, with the family's blessing, perhaps partly to comfort her son, and as a tribute to her late boyfriend. It seems a bit deceptive, but if it comforts these poor people, I'm all for it.
