I’ve spent the last couple of days watching your videos. Lots of hard work, but extremely enjoyable to watch. Appreciate you sharing. I’m impressed. Congratulations on doing great work.
I feel your pain Adam! My wife was out of town for 5 days and I had to manage the farm on my own and I had extreme anxiety that I was going to forget something. I always try my best, but there's always a nagging feeling that I've forgotten something and I'm hoping to never have a day where I find out there was a loss due to my failing memory. It's a lot to take on and you have all the respect in the world from me for supporting Anne's dreams.
I"m so happy I found you - thank you for your upbeat, happy video! Your names for your animals are so cute! Cows make everything better. Cows make everything butter. "chores" being a priviledge - thank you for that!!
I really appreciate you don't cut out all your scares and screams. ❤ I can trust you're showing your honest experience and not manicuring it. Thank you!
OMG, I can’t stop laughing about Jeffrey! It brings me back to a buck I had named Chili! The constant tongue flicking, the smelly peepee beard, and the occasional headbutt! Good times!
I’ve found carrying a (2X) spray bottle of water around is a sly way to surprise the challenging furry. They don’t take surprise squirts to the face and they are more likely to back off. Love your roving and ranting around the farm!!😂😮😅❤ It’s a therapy we couldn’t get anywhere else!🤗🤣😂👍 Love to you and ALL of yours!! 😎❤🎉😘
My toddlers and i laughed a lot at this video. Thank you for sharing. Side note, my 1.5 year old is obsessed with picking up our sheeps poop. i feel your friends pain about the alpaca poo!

Ahhhh djdjsjsjsh these are my fav videos! I just found your channel and I’m absolutely in love with all the adorable animals and love the hard work you put into your farm🤍
@anneofalltrades Was Georgies crazy tooth a medical issue and that's why you fixed it or was it just that he looked like a dumbass? Could he still eat properly? Just asking as I've never kept alpacas so I don't know anything about them but I'm planning on getting goats soon. Love the videos, keep 'em coming!
His was a bit unique in that it didn’t affect his eating, though that is generally a concern when that happens. I fixed it on the off chance it eventually got worse or someday caused issues that hadn’t yet cropped up for whatever reason.
@anneofalltrades I always look forward to your posts! Thank you for sharing your life with us! Do you have any trouble with your wood chip piles getting too hot and spontaneously combusting? I just got my first piles of chips.
Nope, I’m 12 years in with piles big And small, in droughts, multiple different climates, and many, many experiments later, and that’s never been an issue
Just A Few Acres in upstate NY has a solution for flies... but I'm not sure about it. It's like a rolled up rag soaked in diesel hung between 2 fence posts that the cattle go through. As they do, they get a dose on their backs... and Pete says it works great. I might have misunderstood... but I don't think so.
He is a lionhead dwarf, and I feel pretty bad for him in the heat, since he was originally a Washington bunny that moved here with us, and he, unfortunately lost his air conditioning privileges by peeing all over my office 🥲
@AnneofAllTrades Completely understandable! My Mom says it when frustrated, and my Dad carries a Mylanta container in his car for his heartburn/acid-reflux. Imagine my surprise when I found it after I'd heard my mom say it my whole life! I sympathize 100%
If I’m firing on all cylinders It takes 32 mins in the morning for this crew, 30-40mins in the afternoon for the dairy cows with 10 mins travel time, and 25 mins in the evening to put everyone to bed. I usually do a quick lap to check waters and add hay if necessary 1-2 times during the day and I budget 3-4 hrs over the weekend to muck barns, fix fences, and do whatever else needs doing to keep them going, but of course all of that can stretch infinitely depending on how many squirrels are running around in my brain 😂😂
Since "Kevin Bacon 2" is a sow, you should change her name to "Karen Bacon". >> Then, when she is acting "food greedy", you can just tell her to "quit being such a Karen!" 😂
Hahahaha omg that’s so great. I named all 3 piggies Kevin Bacon because I thought it was funny, but then Kevin Bacon the boy became Bacon, and I took an artificial insemination to become baby daddy to lots of little… Karens… apparently 🤪
Your tour was amazing -- thank you!!! I love what you said about the hen that only had 1 chick. We had a hen do that but she had other eggs that once the one hatched she abandoned the others. Anne, if you use AI, you can put heifer birth chances up at 90%+ likely, if conception occurs. Tail painting is a great method to determine estrus and when to call the AI technician.
While that is true, using heifer semen also reduces the efficacy of AI by up to 60%. Ella is actually the result of heifer guaranteed semen, administered via AI to her mom. I have a video talking about that whole experience and why we don’t use AI anymore in a video called “What They Don’t Tell Us About Dairy Cows.” Another reason I didn’t talk about in that video that is another huge factor is our desire to create generationally genetically adapted stock that is hardier for our unique land and husbandry practices. We use what I call “breed rite” strips as a backup for record keeping purposes, but I don’t have a problem detecting estrus, with as much time as I spend with my animals, it’s pretty easy to tell, there are visible body and behavior changes, unique to each animal that are good indicators of where they are in their cycle.
@@AnneofAllTrades many of those physiological signs are relevant for humans, too. Basal temping can indicate human estrus and, if i recall correctly, after 18 days and no drop in peak temp, pregnancy can be determined by temp. Long time since i read that book.
Some of them don’t “make” money persay, but the goal is that at the end of the year, the animals are a net positive financially. I cut and sell hay, we sell yogurt, eggs and beef at the farmer’s market, I make and sell compost, and I sell the babies we don’t raise here. There are also a few other fairly creative ways I occasionally monetize the animals, like using them as photo props or using our farm as a shooting location for some of the marketing campaigns I do on behalf of my consulting company (aka my “real” job) We also set aside and donate a portion to the food bank which is an important piece for me personally, since when I first started gardening, most of our food was coming from our local food bank.

I’m thankful for the healing and the forced rest; though it was painful and frustrating at the time, I look back on this season with so much gratitude, the gained perspective and willingness to ask for help when I need it as a result of this whole thing was a very important life lesson. God is good, all the time. He’s sent many angels to help and encourage along the way.

If you allow the chickens to range through the large animal paddocks they will pick out the fly eggs from the poo patties before they hatch.
