    Oh my god it's gorgeous!! I'm 6'3" tall so it's IMPOSSIBLE to find affordable, quality tripods for my height at an affordable price. I just wish I had the means to build a tripod like this.

    It never amazes me to see how versatile wood is. God was like "they'll probably want to build bridges, houses, carriages, tripods, furniture, shoes, spaceships (yes cork is sometimes used in space), ect....

    Mate that's a cool tripod, the centre links are interesting, is that epoxy on the dowel ends that you spray with a hardener maybe? That part had me wondering. I plan to make one based on your design but will upscale the thickness of pieces as I need something that will hold around 25 kilos or 55lbs. I've just built a crane for my video camera you see that's 16 feet long. I'm testing it using a new tripod I bought that holds an 18lb camera but I'm scared I'm going to ruin the new tripod as it's being pushed beyond it's limits I'm sure. I searched for a while on google and here and liked your design best because there are zero costs for a metal head like many others have, plus you show the method of build perfectly so I have screen grabbed lots of pics! I might upload a small video of it after the build and send you a link. Cheers from New Zealand.

    • @dpmakestuff
      @dpmakestuff  9 років тому +1

      Mines holding up good. I used CA glue to hold the dowels in and yes, that's just a quick set spray. If you don't have quick set spray, you can sprinkle the glue with baking soda and it will harden. If you have any specific question feel free to ask. If I had to make the center link again, I would use plywood. That is the weak spot with out a doubt.

    sweet, i've got to make one. where did you get the camera mount? and are there any plans for this? thanks

    • @dpmakestuff
      @dpmakestuff  10 років тому +1

      I had a cheap knock off gorilla pod that I stole the camera mount from and it had a 1/4" bolt so mounting was easy. I didn't have any plans when I started this so I don't have any to share. The lower legs are 1" x 1" and when it's fully collapsed it's about 34" tall. If you bought a 10' 2x4 you'd have enough material to make two so just experiment with it. It's a ridiculously cheap project. I think I spent more on the bolts than the rest combined.

    If you still have this tripod, I'd guess that it's built up some serious character by now. You should build a classic-style bellows camera to sit on top of it.

      Theban Ned Greenman Thats was CA Glue (super glue) and an accelerator. If you dont have access to a spray on accelerator, just sprinkle some basing soda on the glue and it sets instantly.

      I don't have a CNC but I want one in the worst way. I may have to get a second job just to pay for my obsession. However, you can build just about anything by hand that a CNC can build with a little imagination and skill. Great work Dustin and thanks for sharing!

    • @dpmakestuff
      @dpmakestuff  7 років тому

      Al first thanks! CNC routers are insanely cheap these days! Depending on the size you are looking for it's no more than a tablesaw.
