If raag Yaman were to be removed from the Indian soundscape, Indian film music would come to a standstill. Such is the addiction of this raga that there is not a single music composer in India who has not made a melody based on this raga. One of the first ragas to be taught to students, this is the only raag that does not start with Shadaj, but chooses Nishad to step in and as it starts, the beauty of a teevra Madhyam coupled with its specific sursangatis takes the performer and the listener through emotions of peace, serenity and romanticism. We welcome Paulami, a student of Sugandha madam who presents the iconic composition, “Eri Ali and sargam” in Teental.
