OMG, this brings back memories! I saw this production, and wouldn't have missed it since I had already fallen deeply in love with Janáček. Marie Collier was born to play this role. Her transit from Imperious Diva - to a shattering death scene was a perfect dramatic arc. I was told years later that she more or less 'sandbagged' Kurt Herbert Adler to put it on the schedule. I may be wrong, but I think it was the first time it was performed in America. And to have such a great musician as Jascha Horenstein in the pit really makes this audio a treasure for me. [I played his LP of Bruckner #9 over and over...] Thank you very much!
