By all accounts, Savarkar was tortured in jail both physically and psychologically. No human being should be judged for decisions he takes under that kind of duress. Nobody should be put in such terrible situations and worse, nobody should be judged for the decisions he makes under such duress.

vikram said we should tell that we should allow every perspective satisfying bare minimum condition, but tharoor said we cant allow every perspective which is intolerant once (whuch fits best in his definition of intolerance but the left and congress show pecuilar kind of intolerance when it comes to any hindutvavaadi, example were given in the debate itself that how many people lost fellowship and what not and tharoor was reluctant to admit that and himself using whataboutery to say oh see this government is doing this and that)
I remember tharoor agreeing with deepak that we need truth and conciliation and no he said history is for nation building and we can use lies for that, and then vikram mentioned the same thing he reluctantly agreed.
And yes tharoor wanted to highlight british rule because it neither effect much of todays politics plus it also idolises his ideologues or idea of india (since it is in mainstream and orthodox narrative) but the same cant be done by highlighting islamic history.
Then he said with deepak i dont have problem with our nation build on dharmic civilisation values and then he said a new idea of india had come of india has hindu country or polity (which is basically strawmaning the arguement)
vikram was clear in his point on truth and reconciliation and on the things of brushing things under carpet and wounds, but tharoor changed is position (i think) twice.

Nehru spent 9 years in a First Class jail where he was treated like a king.
But he only spent a few days in a rotten jail similar to Kalapani and he couldn't bear it any longer so his rich father Motilal begged and wrote several mercy petitions to the british.
Savarkar didnt have a rich daddy to bail him out of jail unlike nehru.

Nehru was kept in the jail along with three others in UP during the British rule and his father did everything to get his exit within few days !

An anomaly I could never wrap my head around was that the rule of Afghans, Iranians and Uzbeks is called "Islamic rule in India", while the white rule was categorised as British rule. When I inquired from my teacher, "If the rule of central asians is Islamic rule because they were muslims then the British rule should be Christian rule. Or if its British rule then the previous rules by foreigners should be categorised according to their nationality. I failed in the exams that year.

Enjoyed reading both books on Savarkar by Vikram and happily changed my opinion about Savarkar reading unpartisan and factual presentation by Vikram. History we were taught is Congress version. Look forward to his books on Shivaji & Tipu Sultan. Strength and respect to Vikram and we should not stifle his freedom of speech.
On his mercy petition, even after he came out of Andamans & continued to oppose the British both directly & indirectly. Like Abhinav rightly said 'he lived to fight another day'.

After listening the entire discourse between Dr. Tharoor and Vikram (which I really admired) I realised that Sampath has same convincing capacity as Sai Deepak or Prof. Rangnathan. After reading Marks and Angels, simultaneously reading Sawarkar, Upadhyay etc I felt we faulterd in building a nation because of putting ghastly past in the casket which has not burried but getting resurrected due to unattended wound of the past. We must dress the wounds not just bandaging but by cleaning curating and then leav it open to heal..Very very proud of Sampath

Shri Savarkar had no direct role to play in Indian Independence.. At best he was one of the many people who had undergone torture during the British era, an independent self proclaimed lone freedom fighter, non believer of Mahatma and glorified today as a national hero. His contribution with Indian Independence was not main stream and cannot be compared with the main stream freedom fighters. He is being bought in to current day main stream to fit the narrative of the Sangh Parivaar as appropriating the likes of Bhagat Singh, Jhansi Rani Lakshmi Bhai, Sardar Patel, Subhash Chandra Bose, Dr. Ambedkar etc.. etc... has not paid any dividends to the party due to the deep rooted ideology of secularism. No one across the world or British Govt would recognize Savarkar, neither will any country give them the due respect as an international leader like Mahatma Gandhi or Jawaharlal Nehru.

We need to give more and more exposure in online platforms to true scholars like Vikram, Sai, Sanjeev, Gautier etc. Make them reach the common people who are in villages. Give exposure to kids to their scholarship, at all costs. Use whatever organization, platforms, Temples etc.

The problem with the "LeLi"s is that the Hindus as a society has its own history and all round economic development which they don't recognize. One may recall the famous quote of one economist "the hindu growth rate of 3.5% of GDP" has been disproved many times that Hindus have good idea of economy .ore than the west. Furthermore the Lelis won't explain why the communism failed in USSR, China Venezuela etc due to economic policies. This type of idiocy was entrenched in the public's conscience for a long time. Nobody knows when we come out of this shackles.
