Thank you. Now I finally know what lazer is. In all seriousness, I love the consistency with which lazer has been getting better over the years. Keep up the great work!
So uhm, this video finally got me to decide to try laser, since it looks like you guys are pushing for it to be the new stable eventually now. Yeah, I really don't care that there's no PP, osu laser is now my new stable. Anyone else on the fence, go get it now. It's just so much more satisfying and feature-rich than stable is. You don't even need supporter to download songs in-game and you can just browse the entire beatmap section of the website in-game, see which maps you already own and go to them, or get new maps straight into the game and play them. No draging or file opening necessary. Oh and a collections system that's way more intuitive than stable, even if it needs some more love. Also, if you're worried about getting your maps and skins back, laser will dupe and import everything in your stable folder to your laser folder as you play, and if you don't like where the game is installed, you can migrate the entire game to wherever the hell you want on your PC within the options menu without needing a wizard and it works in SECONDS. Yeah, it isn't perfect yet, laser still needs some QOL improvements to really shine. But it's already miles above what's already presented in current stable. Ditch the PP grind and go have some serious fun on laser. You won't regret it. Plus, if you're really a stickler for PP, laser tells you the maximum PP you could have acheived for your plays with the selected mods. So even if you don't play laser, you can use it to keep track of which maps you want to grind out if you swing that way and just love watching your pp count rise. Dean Herbert, thank you for being one of the best game devs out there right now, and a big thanks to everyone on that GitHub that poured their time and talents into this project that is not only completely free but also a better experience than most pay to play rhythm games out there right now. Only good things are in store for osu! fans in the following years.
@@Ohrami Well, I suppose that's why classic mod exists, so if you feel that way then the option is there for you. Though I'm really enjoying the new look, feel, and fresh set of features Lazer provides. I'm sure it's a bit of a subjective thing. Without notelock I do notice I'm lasting longer on stream maps specifically. Whether you see that as good or bad I can't say, but at least I'm practicing the skill more as a result. A lot of players from all ranks have been wanting these changes from what I've seen, so it was inevitable that they'd put them into motion. I don't play at a high enough skill level to really see these kinds of tweaks making dramatic changes to my Gameplay, so it's not as big of a deal for me. However, I realize higher ranked players like you notice these things more often and have been more vocal on whether these changes are good or bad.
if years down the line, our current stable version still allows us to gain pp, I can definitely see a lot of people using older versions as a nostalgic trip
Or just people like me who get destroyed because of the sliders and tighter accuracy (i can't freaking perfect in Lazer anything above 2 stars and even that is a struggle)
@@ZedDevStuff Give it time, friend. Using slider heads to keep acc high is not a great way to play in higher stars, but lazer definitely breaks that unhealthy habit early! I wish I had realized this early in game because I used it as a crutch for so long!
Super happy it's finally fully here! I still remember writing you a mail back in 2017 asking when it would release and you said "This year". Well you were right, but this full release was what I had in mind :D I've long since quit the game, but might give it another go with all these new features! Thanks so much for the many years of dedication to make this game the best it can be. I truly appreciate it ❤
When i tried lazer for the 2nd time in a month or two i was finally able to enjoy it without fps drops, love the new mods and the clean look that it has, if it ever can give PP or leaderboard ranking i’ll switch to lazer. Also unrelated Grow and Hidden is a really fun combo y’all should try it
lazer is great from my usage over the past month or so (given that I'm on Linux and can't install stable easily). missing the workflow of the stable editor a lot but that'll come in time for sure. great job peppy and osu team! :)
normal players: "aight so its probably quite stable and it does look very cool now." actual osu players: 1:18 " THEY FIX THE NOTELOCK, THEY FIX THE FRICKIN NOTELOCK YEEEEESSSSSS"
I've played lazer for like two weeks now and I have to say: aside from there being no pp (which i personally don't care about) EVERYTHING is better than standard. I have like 0ms latency, whereas in standard i would get 8-9ms and that is such a huge difference. It feels fresh, it feels new and everyone who plays the game should at least give it a try.
@@TOP1GUSION i haven't found any unpassable maps. I think the only huge difference in gameplay are lack of noteblock and slider accuracy so i doubt that would affect the possibility of passing some maps. Sometimes some minor bugs occur but that's no big deal so i recommend you try it for yourself and have fun!
i really really like lazer version, it's easy to learn to play taiko on lazer compared to osu, it's so refreshing with cool UI animations. i dont really care i don't get pp on lazer, i still enjoy it.
I will give it another shot, last time I try it was having problems with performance, if there's no problem now I will 100% change to lazer, maybe to try std more or to improve on mania without caring about pp. Also, it really looks good
Nice! Got a question, though. In Osu Lazer, are you going to implement a practice mode? Playback speed is great, but I was wondering if we're going to be able to start playing from an specific part of the map.
@@totally_not_a_bot Yes, I know that you can use that in the current build but it sucks that it doesn't have a proper practice mode like, let's say, Beat Saber, where you can actually practice from an specific point at an specific speed playback.
I love it's features and "Wind Up" mod is literally the most fun I had playing osu! I'm using it from time to time. Can wait for it to have PP and leaderboards. This will be the best update any game ever had.
My only problem with lazer is the performance issues. I had a pretty fun time with lazer and I hope that the performance issues will be resolved in the near future.
i switched to lazer 2 days ago and never encountered that kind of issue. my friend in a ultra low spec pc that barely runs stable and he also got improvements
i only play lazer now, would highly recommend. if you improve while playing, lack of getting pp means nothing as you can just gain it more easily if you ever do want to gain it again.
When I tried lazer once I totally disliked how animations playing in the Menu interface (Ie. fading animations etc.) made general navigation "feel" slower somehow, but that was about more than a year ago, judging by the video it seems to look a lot more smooth now, I really should redownload it and try it again actually, its really been a while... Also just seeing how far the development actually has come in general is really impressive!
As much as I love the features present in lazer, my current pc setup just can't handle the game. I'm really happy to hear that the old client will be around for the foreseeable future, as the struggle of getting pc parts in a third world country would probably force me out of the game.
Osu! Lazer should be able to run on most systems? I believe it's more optimized than stable, albeit a little more buggy. If you're having problems try tweaking the settings a bit. Might have to do with your CPU or GPU related settings in the game if you're trying to run the game in a manner your hardware doesn't support well.
Can you add a rank filter in multi, I don’t wanna play with 7 digits or 6 digits, and it clutters up trying to find a good lobby because the community is in a bad state of what maps are being echoed/spammed around as well as the automatic bot lobbies having the most repetitive players that play the same map over and over and over and over and over again
that's completely up to you, you can switch to lazer today or in 2 years. as has been mentioned in the video, you won't be forced to switch away from stable.
@@janmalicek6914 Bruh you don't get the question. What they meant was...when will you be able to submit scores and earn pp? That's when it truly replaces stable.

Only good things are in store for osu! fans in the following years.
thanks for giving it a shot!
Wait the fact that it automatically transfers beatmaps and skins is amazing, might actually get it now
It's worse and note lock/slider accuracy are inherent features of the game that don't need fixing
I was already convinced by the video but your comment convinced me even more. Im gonna switch to lazer thanks to you
I love osu!lazer, the new mods, the interface, the built-in drivers, makes it amazing.
I need someone to create a 3 hour video covering every single new feature in this game because God there are one too many.
if years down the line, our current stable version still allows us to gain pp, I can definitely see a lot of people using older versions as a nostalgic trip
Well you were right, but this full release was what I had in mind :D
I've long since quit the game, but might give it another go with all these new features!
This is the future of my favourite game and I can't wait to see it in a completly redesigned look!
Lazer looks so promising!
1:28 this will be the downfall of my carrier
literally same. this is gonna be my kryptonite
holy moly, an official video.
Ikr, can't believe it myself
I remember this in 2017
I installed the lazer
Couldnt understand a thing
Unstalled the lazer.
This video helps a lot:)
might want to get back into osu after so much times. Looks refreshing
normal players: "aight so its probably quite stable and it does look very cool now."
actual osu players: 1:18 " THEY FIX THE NOTELOCK, THEY FIX THE FRICKIN NOTELOCK YEEEEESSSSSS"
I've been an exclusive osu!lazer player for almost a year now. I started my osu! journey with it. It's great. :D
Дизайн просто что-то за гранью фантастики. Выглядит очень симпатично и ну прям уухххх очень хочется пожать эти кнопочки приятные
1:13 And Half Time can actually be half time! It would be nice if it could go down to 0.01, it would be useful for learning harder maps.
Just discovered Lazer after some years away from Osu!Mania. This update is so great, you guys are the best!!! I already love it... Thank you 🥰
I've played lazer for like two weeks now and I have to say: aside from there being no pp (which i personally don't care about) EVERYTHING is better than standard. I have like 0ms latency, whereas in standard i would get 8-9ms and that is such a huge difference. It feels fresh, it feels new and everyone who plays the game should at least give it a try.
question did u find some maps unwinnable compared to playing it on stable? some difficulty levels are also shuffled it's confusing
I've already been playing Lazer more often than stable for a while, I can't wait for the optional update!!
I will give it another shot, last time I try it was having problems with performance, if there's no problem now I will 100% change to lazer, maybe to try std more or to improve on mania without caring about pp.
Also, it really looks good
Still remember cavoes when peppy came over on like the last day and held a presentation he made IN osu lazer. Great day
Nice! Got a question, though. In Osu Lazer, are you going to implement a practice mode? Playback speed is great, but I was wondering if we're going to be able to start playing from an specific part of the map.
In the editor, seek to a particular point, add a bookmark, click test, profit.
@@totally_not_a_bot Yes, I know that you can use that in the current build but it sucks that it doesn't have a proper practice mode like, let's say, Beat Saber, where you can actually practice from an specific point at an specific speed playback.
>open source
*hits download immediately*
I love it's features and "Wind Up" mod is literally the most fun I had playing osu! I'm using it from time to time. Can wait for it to have PP and leaderboards. This will be the best update any game ever had.
theres leaderboards already
this guys voice
*tutorial flashback plays*
Damn osu! finally remembered they had a youtube account
I would give up everything just so i could hear that "hello there" one last time
My only problem with lazer is the performance issues. I had a pretty fun time with lazer and I hope that the performance issues will be resolved in the near future.
Yeah i had the same issue which is Frame Stuttering
i switched to lazer 2 days ago and never encountered that kind of issue. my friend in a ultra low spec pc that barely runs stable and he also got improvements
@@Dicaso9 really? Mine became worse and I'm also running with a low-spec pc so i switched back to stable until lazer is fixed.
@@Dicaso9 low end pcs tends to stutter a lot with lazer
"What is lazer?"
Pog. That's what it is.
They're actually dropping osu! 2 boiiiiis!
hi sczer
@@suipissosu hi
i half expected this video to just be that intro sequence
lets goooooo lazer finally getting more exposure
LETS GO
i only play lazer now, would highly recommend. if you improve while playing, lack of getting pp means nothing as you can just gain it more easily if you ever do want to gain it again.
I've been playing lazer since August, stable now feels archaic and I prefer lazer
I like you the start is just staright up “its this”
When I tried lazer once I totally disliked how animations playing in the Menu interface (Ie. fading animations etc.) made general navigation "feel" slower somehow, but that was about more than a year ago, judging by the video it seems to look a lot more smooth now, I really should redownload it and try it again actually, its really been a while...
Also just seeing how far the development actually has come in general is really impressive!
MHHH THE LAUNCHING SOUND N' ANIMATION OF OSU LAZER : perfect
As much as I love the features present in lazer, my current pc setup just can't handle the game. I'm really happy to hear that the old client will be around for the foreseeable future, as the struggle of getting pc parts in a third world country would probably force me out of the game.
don’t worry it will run on your current hardware, as long as you can run windows 10+
What is your hardware?
Osu! Lazer should be able to run on most systems? I believe it's more optimized than stable, albeit a little more buggy. If you're having problems try tweaking the settings a bit. Might have to do with your CPU or GPU related settings in the game if you're trying to run the game in a manner your hardware doesn't support well.
Osu! Laser is like as if Team Osu! Completely reworked the universe
wysi
Im from 2035 osu lazer still hasn't released.
Can you add a rank filter in multi, I don’t wanna play with 7 digits or 6 digits, and it clutters up trying to find a good lobby because the community is in a bad state of what maps are being echoed/spammed around as well as the automatic bot lobbies having the most repetitive players that play the same map over and over and over and over and over again
took you long enough Kappa. Was nice to see it grow from a concept to what it is now
okay released is the wrong question, when will it replace stable in everything?
that's completely up to you, you can switch to lazer today or in 2 years. as has been mentioned in the video, you won't be forced to switch away from stable.
@@janmalicek6914 Isn't this *comment* supposed to be ironic
@@janmalicek6914 Bruh you don't get the question. What they meant was...when will you be able to submit scores and earn pp? That's when it truly replaces stable.
@@janmalicek6914 it wont because scores i set on stable are kept, recorded and are inherently worth something; i play to have my scores on leaderboards and lazer as it is now can no way replace stable for me
read peppys comment
I just realized that this is official osu! channel
:o
So many gay people on Osu always talking about pps.
Uhh.. ...
what size is your guys pp
mines about 17"
mine 6.7", yours is very big@@slackreal
just the one second shown of changing slider velocity without opening a menu made me cream my fucking pants
Thank you for staying open source.
I exclusively play lazer these days. I just love it
This video alone is singlehandedly pulling me back to !osu or should I say !lazer
now I can play high diff maps with dt but it's actually 1.01x time
That was the most straight forward video that i have ever watched
I finally get why Osu changed their logo after being hit by the Death Star beam on r/place. They got hit by a lazer and turned it into Osu Lazer. Neat
Isn't it illegal to be this awesome? >:O
What a time to return to osu!
Thanks peppy i love you for fixing long notes on mania..well its gonna be easier now and im really happy about the unlimited people in multiplayer 😍😍
For anyone wondering, the song at 1:38 is Laughing Makes it Worse by Michael Cera Palin. I definitely did not expect to find one of their songs here.
As someone who plays for fun and not pp, Lazer is godlike.
Brazilian portuguese people: what do you mean? "what is lazer"
Lazer has come along way since 2017
Omg, omg, omg, I'm pishifats biggest fan. Thank you so much for telling me about osu! Lazer pishi. Another great informational video as always.
I've stopped caring about pp and scores for a good few years now, the manual updates are mainly what stopped my casual ass from using Lazer more often.
the second i heard notelock being fixed i thought to myself to instantly switch
thank you pishifat. glad to know your alive
Do I smell an all-in-one rhythm game *platform* in the works?
not only incredible
but also cross platform
and open source??
osu! is officially 𝘵𝘩𝘦 superior rhythm game.
I can finally enjoy playing OSU!Taiko with just one button on my Android device, I love this "new" update!
Itll never replace Stable. Itll just be a natural progression of amazingness
I've been playing on laser since 2017, and the evolution of updates has been amazing. come to the laser!!!
Osu lazer is much better than standard osu for me, i get even better result playing, it's the polished osu! version, thanks to all the open source community for working on this, I'll try to give a hand someday!
One thing for me is that i can't earn the PP, I'm a casual player, I'm 600k in world placement but getting the PP make me conscious in how i made progress, seeing +30 pp is great and make me feel so good. I'm looking forward to be this the main osu fork!
Why is it so like oddly relaxing but also weird to hear your voice in a Video and not in the OSU game for the first thing I played XD
