Olympic has been kind of forgotten over time, she didn't sink so she didn't gain the fame of Titanic, but yet, she is still the best and most reliable! LONG LIVE OLYMPIC! I actually have a model of her In my room beside Titanic they look nice together.
CalebGames You have a model of her? How lucky! Olympic has become my favorite ship because she has been forgotten more, and I am glad to see another person remembering her. She was a grand ship, and although she may not have sunk, her scrapping alone was a tragedy, I feel.
I know! I'm very fortunate to have her! Revell never fails to impress. But, that they did do is make her with what she looked like when she debuted, with her 16 lifeboats before her refit. But it is still very cool.
After the Titanic's sinking - because then all shipping companies had to supply lifeboats for everyone on board. The Olympic was retired for a few months for a refit that gave her sixty-four lifeboats (the number Alexander Carlisle originally proposed for both the Titanic and the Olympic), an inner watertight skin for the boiler and engine rooms, the increase in height of five of the watertight bulkheads, and the addition of an extra bulkhead to subdivide the electrical dynamo room .
Then you better go look at H&W records the bow of Olympic was repaired after she struck the dock when on her maiden voyage in New York .When she was dry docked to repair the damage to her stern after the HMS Hawke accident this was repaired it was nothing serious just a minor scrap .
RMS OLYMPIC ....... Die erste ...... Und die letzte ....... Der 3 unfergessbaren Titanen ........... Möge ihr 1,Klasse esszimmer noch immer in Belfast stehen ...........
She was scrapped in order to give people work, and she had a major problem with cracks in the funnels and upper structure that where not worth the money to repair at that time, with a depression and a drop in passenger numbers going over the Atlantic it was a question of ecconmics .
Lovely ship, she went before her time. Of course the same can emphatically be said about both of her sisters too. A pity this video that was supposed to be about Olympic had so many other ships in it.
That is not true, it was a conspiracy theory proven false! The propeller blades on the Titanic's wreck site has Titanic's shipyard number, and so do other artifacts on the Titanic's recovered chairs tables..etc. And some of the metal that was on the Olympic and some of the scrapped material, cabinets, wood panelling (such as the one on the Celebrity Millenium's Olympic restaurant) has the Olympic's yard number engraved into the wood.
Probably it's not gonna happen. It's not just expensive to build a replica of these ships, it's also dangerous. With all their wood furniture they'll never pass any safety requirements, nobody will allow them to float with their original design.
i honestly think they should not of gotten rid of the Olympic because of the rumor that the Titanic and the Olympic traded Names it would of been great if the Dumb-asses didnt scrap this beautiful ship..........
was the Titanic bigger than the Olympic ?..........they keep saying Titanic was the biggest ship built at the time but I always thought they where the same ships with just different names
We weren’t able to be there because it wasn’t our generation but as a new generation we can contribute to the lives lost back then by buying houses from the titanic era and restoring them vs letting cities and towns tear them down if the titanic was still around it would of been historic but houses from that era aren’t treated as such and get destroyed kinda sad nobody gives a shit about history anymore that’s why I bought a house that’s just two years older then the titanic
+Tosic Kristian They were both launched with 14 port holes. Titanic had two more added during her fitting out and Olympic had two more added after the sinking of Titanic, during a re-fit.
+RobandLarry Sampson i don't care i still won't ever forgive rose for not letting jack lie beside her on that door! she could have saved him that bitch! there was enough space!
The WHITE STAR LINE And Their OLYMPIC-CLASS LINERS Are Immortal, They've Stayed In Our Heart, They've Stayed In Our Memories and They Would Never Been Replaced.. #VivaWhiteStarLine
I understand the people who feel sorry that the Olympic was destroyed, I feel sorry too. But you have to understand that the people at that time were seeing the things differently. The ship itself was getting old, some of it's systems started to malfunction. And the scrapping gave work to many unemployed men. The fact that Olympic was the sister ship of the Titanic was not helping at all, because the people at that time WANTED TO FORGET the Titanic. Many of the surviving crew had difficulties to continue their careers, because they were unwanted. Some people believed that everything connected with the Titanic is bringing bad luck, including the crew that survived. The people wanted to forget the Titanic, and for many years the ship was almost forgotten. Only when Dr. Ballard found the wreck the situation changed.
A French company was looking at purchasing Olympic for use as a floating hotel in 1935 in France but the deal never went ahead it fell through .So like all ships back then it was to the scrappers yard in Jarrow her hull was towed to Scotland and scrapped.
She was dismantled at only 24 years old what a shame but that was probably better for her because other wise she either would have sunk in WW2 would be used for the 1997 titanic film because that's just how we are I know it sucks 😔
Ganz tolles Video mit vielen schönen historischen Filmclips und Fotos. Wirklich jammerschade um diese stolzen & schönen Dampfer. Daumen hoch! :) Grüße Mega
That is not why these ships were scrapped. By 1935, Olympic was just outdated and cost more to repair and operate than she was worth. That is the same reason Mauretania and Aquitania were scrapped. Those two had made their worth in money for Cunard many times, but they reached a point where they weren't worth operating and repairing anymore. Its like someone selling a car they've had for years that has lost all value in maintainance costs and retail value.
Oddly enough there are probably hundreds or even thousands of people alive today who sailed on Olympic, and remember the experience. If you sailed on her in her last year of service and were 18 at the time, you would be 95 now. If you were 13 you would now be 89. The same age as (for example) Christopher Lee.
For ships of their time the Olympic Class was advanced and so well designed that the Titanic EXCEEDED the limits that experts placed on her hull sadly no vessel modern or historic could have survived having that many watertight compartment s breeched as for the Britanic not many civilian ships could have withstood a mine either now yes the captain made a mistake and tried to beach her and failed but most of the people survived and as for the Olympic she served a long historic life
I believe they ended up regretting scrapping Olympic before Berengaria (which was originally the Imperator). The former had suffered some structural cracking but was mechanically in great shape and could have easily managed 10 more years of service (after a major refit her engines were actually better than new!). Imperator on the other hand was never a popular ship and had been nicknamed Limperator due to her constant listing.
Titanic is just more famous because it was deamed unsinkable, largest in the world, hit an iceberg on it's maiden voyage. These things have NEVER happened to any other documented liner. The world largest ship at the time, hitting something so rare to hit, on it's first ever voyage out of british waters. It's so ironic, so coincidental, so tragic, that some even today can't truely accept the outcome.
Olympic got all the fan fare at her launch even had an open day for people to go on board and check out the luxury and what the ship was like .Titanic was never given that opportunity . Putting the two together and you sure as hell can see the difference you would have to be blind if you could not .
Olympic had those lifeboats from the begining. Titanic had less lifeboats because they said that titanic is safer and unsinkable and they don't need so many lifeboats
Yes right, phillyslasher, I do remember reading about White Star getting those two ships as war reparations. It seems the Olympic did remain the most popular of the three, though.
Man,Olympic is the best of the White Star Liners! She went too early. Shame she did too. I mean we have Queen Mary in Long Beach but imagine if Olympic was saved aswell! They could Dock the too beautiful vessels beside each other. It would be amazing
The Olympic was one of my favourite ocean liners from history. She had quite an established record for various things she did throughout her life, she will forever be remembered as the lucky sister of the legendary Titanic.
She could have been used for a lot more than being a scrapped 1:A Museum 2:A Tour Boat (ex.Natchez In New Orleans) 3:City Cruises 4:RENOVATION AND BETTER MODERN ROONS
There was no switch. Every switch theory is debunked many times. And none proven. Titanic and Olympic had big differences on the every deck. Different layouts on suites, cabins, marconi room, different propllers, different officer quarters and marconi room. Different Wheelhouses, Bridge nocks and so on... Switch was impossible. And there wa no reason for that. Olympic wasn't damaged badly. Gardner had no proof. Only a stupid theory. Educated people should know that.
So sad why why did they to sink all those ships filled with innocent people in which were aboard the Olympic, titanic,Lusitania,Britannic, and the other one x(
The closest you will get to titanic is the sister normanic the 1st class shuttle that survived & is docked in the actual harland & wolf yard in Belfast as a museum
no theres many and one has a broken keel, the only thing with a broken keel is that there is always gonna be an list to the way its bent its not gonna sink.1
There were three Olympic class liners built only two slipways Olympic the first Titanic the second Britannic the third Three ships were what W S L required and that's all they had ordered to be built why is it so hard understand . The insurance pay out for Titanic would not even replace it as she was under insured by nearly $18.5 dollars You don't have to be a rocket scientist to work that out.
Your question is actually really logical but can i tell you what happened to the olympic ? It sank. olympic had some errors to the ship that were beyond repair and titanic was late being launched so they switched the 2 names and claimed the olympic was titanic therefore titanic is still on land. You can clearly see that under the sea 3 letters prom titanic fell of and you could see an engravement MP as in OLI''MP''IC so thats the true fate of titanic and now you know
An expert the chap never said he was, least he has done the hard yards and knows more about W S L than you ever will .Theories are only a alternative to the facts put up by people who do the home work then turn it around to suit there theory then at the end of the day people swallow it hook line and sinker by the likes of you .take it as gospel when in fact its not .
Titanic is sad :( first and last travel. I say they design a ship like hers. But anyway, I would like to go on a White Star Line cruise, but most of their ships are unsuccessful so... I'm sorry this is the stupidest question on earth, I truly am, but what happened to Olympic?
Olympic left her legacy for all to see her 1st class lounge was installed in the White Swan Hotel in Northumberland Google "White Swan Hotel" i and you will see it windows fireplace stairs wood panels .
Man I wonder why they did not preserve the Olympic, like the Queen Mary. They could have put the Olympic in New York, while the Queen Mary stayed in Long Beach, CA.
Tolles Video, schade das es heute nicht mehr solche Schiffe gibt!Gruss Inselvideo!
Olympic has been kind of forgotten over time, she didn't sink so she didn't gain the fame of Titanic, but yet, she is still the best and most reliable! LONG LIVE OLYMPIC! I actually have a model of her In my room beside Titanic they look nice together.
U don't did to sink to get fame Britannic kinda forgotten and she sank and she was titanic and Olympic sister 😂
Actually, I do. Revell has a model of her. And your comment doesn't exactly make sense...
CalebGames You have a model of her? How lucky!
Olympic has become my favorite ship because she has been forgotten more, and I am glad to see another person remembering her. She was a grand ship, and although she may not have sunk, her scrapping alone was a tragedy, I feel.

I bet they looked nice together. I too want to own models of both Olympic and Titanic. Where did you get them?
R.I.P Olympic
After the Titanic's sinking - because then all shipping companies had to supply lifeboats for everyone on board. Hope the billionare that built the Titanic ll would build a Olympic ll
also why not make a Britannic II, as a liner in its hospital liverys.
Ho Zong Xi and a Britannic II
Probably it's not gonna happen.
It's not just expensive to build a replica of these ships, it's also dangerous.
With all their wood furniture they'll never pass any safety requirements, nobody will allow them to float with their original design.
Perfect video :D
To bad the R.M.S Olympic was scraped.
After the Titanic sinking, they ordered that their be enough lifeboats for all the people on the ship
sorry:( we in germany write it oktober, thanks;)
I think it was actually the Vaterland which became Majestic.
i think its in new york
yes it i
i honestly think they should not of gotten rid of the Olympic because of the rumor that the Titanic and the Olympic traded Names it would of been great if the Dumb-asses didnt scrap this beautiful ship..........
The vid spelled October wrong
how did it sink i thought the army used it for hospital
f in the chat
Thank you for not playing that crap Titanic song
was the Titanic bigger than the Olympic ?..........they keep saying Titanic was the biggest ship built at the time but I always thought they where the same ships with just different names
***** The Britannic was bigger than Titanic in tonnage... So this made her bigger than her sisters. She was also longer.
Titanic 2nis bigger then titanic and titanics sisters
Ermm.. Its life, not live....
Remember folks sounds more like a political speech a normal remark for a theorist.
It's sad that ships like the Olympic and the Mauretania have been forgotten since the last years..
When and where was the pic at 03:47 taken? Never seen it before.
count the upper windows at 1:13 it has 14 windows. wich the titanic had. the real plympic had 16.

sytems were already malfunctionning on her maiden voyage, lol
Olympic deserved a much better fate than being scrapped, especially being the only surviving Olympic-class liner
Yea It Really Is.. One Day I Hope To Change That And Find There Souls.. :( So Sad To See Them Be Frogotten.. This Video Will Catch On Sooner or Later.
A French company was looking at purchasing Olympic for use as a floating hotel in 1935 in France but the deal never went ahead it fell through .So like all ships back then it was to the scrappers yard in Jarrow her hull was towed to Scotland and scrapped.
OLYMPIC lost one of her sisters, the RMS TITANIC, and the youngest sister the HMHS BRITANNIC, leavein OLYMPICS only one on her path
@Smithyards
thanks:)
sorry i am from germany, my english is not so good^^

Olympic was a great ship Titanic and Britannic should have saved her from being scraped. She was the last of the class and the truly unsinkable ship.
I've always loved the Olympic, it was a shame she wasn't preserved. Now so many people simply think the Titanic was a one of a kind ship.

the thing is the mauratania and Olympic were both torn down right before qm was built
The scraping of Olympic is the tragic thing I ever see
I have to agree she survive world war 1. She deserves to sail not to be use as scrap. She still had life to her
Why does everything hate luxury liners? The Olympic was the true unsinkable ship.
i dont know why they turn it into a museum or something so people can have a look
Jayden I saw you comment on the brittanic and now you commented on the Olympic XD
***** The RMS Olympic didn't sink, they had it scrapped for profit after her 24 year service time.
She was scrapepd because it was i nthe middle of the great depression
Like titanic song in the movie
whats the.name of the.first song
The Olympic was one of my favourite ocean liners from history. She had quite an established record for various things she did throughout her life, she will forever be remembered as the lucky sister of the legendary Titanic.
I know that it was very sad what happened to the Olympic, but she will always be remembered for what she was as the “Old Reliable”.
Why is here pictures of SS Imperator, Empress of Britain , RMS Aquitania and other ships?????
Ive wondered that for years
I cry everytime I watch this
Me too love

Well the Wilhelm Gustloff sank with about 10 or 11.000 on board ;) and she had been smaller than Olympic-Class
Man I wonder why they did not preserve the Olympic, like the Queen Mary. They could have put the Olympic in New York, while the Queen Mary stayed in Long Beach, CA.
The long life was 24 years thats very long for a luxusliner
Olympic should NEVER been scrapped. Far better to have been sunk. I reall HATE Those scrap merchants. REMEMBEER THE OLYMPIC!
Nice job I thing this song is the main song of olympic
Like said before the ships where switched.... What every one calls old reliable is really the Unsinkable Moly brown......
Me too.
No doubt - too bad for White Star (a quite unlucky star). The Titanic and the Britannic were truly two big losses.
Tell me something I don't know. However, the Titanic still got her own propellers.
it isn,t the Olympic the Olympic the Olympic got swaped with titanic so The Olympic sank first then titanic
You guys do realize there were 3 ships right?
1st Olympic/ scrapped
2nd Titanic /sank
3rd Britannic/ sank
@xJamesKirkx
ja da stimm ich dir zu 100% zu.
