I personally like the one ball method better; it saves a lot of time and i also think that it spares a lot of product because I noticed in the video that when dragging the acrylic down the nail after placing the bead, a little of that acrylic just gets brushed off. If the acrylic is coming off while you're sculpting, then it is too wet. You can tell that this is happening because there will be acrylic that you wiped off of the nail in your brush, as she showed us at 20:20. Therefore perfecting your liquid to powder ratio is essential to conserving product as well. I used to do the 4 bead method until I got better with the consistency of my liquid to powder ratio. It worked well I just find that the one ball method is more efficient. But even with the 4 bead method, if you find that you're brushing a lot of the acrylic off the nail when sculpting, then your bead is probably too wet. Another great example of this is shown in Suzie's video from Nail Career Education on sculpting a nail without a tip, OR a form. She just sculpted it free hand without something to place the acrylic on, and the only way to achieve that is to have great liquid to powder ratio. When sculpting your acrylic, it should be that you're moving the acrylic around rather than wiping it off. Another thing is, to go along with what Natalie said about wiping your brush before you go to dip it into your powder, you can also hold it in your powder for a little bit longer. A lot of nail techs I've seen hold it there for maybe like 2 solid seconds, because sometimes its not just about wiping off enough liquid, but it's about picking up enough powder as well. Also, I learned from YN nail school that you should dip your brush in the powder using the opposite side that you wiped, so that you're picking up your bead with the side of your brush that has the most liquid, instead of dipping with the same side that you wiped off. YN Nail School and Nail Career Education (other youtube channels) have taught me a lot about liquid to powder ratio, and how your bead should be malleable, but not runny and coming off into your brush. No hate to you Natalie, I genuinely love your videos. :) I'm just sharing what I've learned!

You make it look so easy. When I'm doing a set I be thinking I'm you with my movements 😂 Seriously if I don't put too much thought into it and just do what I've seen you do they look so much better then if I really focus. Crazy!

It also makes a difference the kind of paper you use to wipe your brush off. Some aren’t coarse enough to pick up the product. Also, as a nail tech I see so many videos where the application is done with a tapered brush. This can and does work for many experienced nail techs but, if you’re a beginner you might find a curved or straight edge brush easier to handle especially for better control by the cuticle area.

Hey Natalie, I'm a beginner nail tech and noticed that when I use the products from my local beauty supply such as tips, liquid, powder, primer, brushes, and also $1 nail polish it doesn't compare to yours. Do you mind doing a video showing us the importance of using good products and nail polish?

It's all about the angle of your brush and how you wipe it off. You dip wipe the whole brush very lightly off the dish then the lower the angle while dipping in the powder the bigger the bead. The higher your brush is the smaller the bead. Kirsty mekean is a perfect nail tech to learn liquid to powder ratio.
