Well, Mr.JBMancave, I see your information as very insightful, but there are those rookie officers that just plain don't know the law, ignorant and use their uniforms as an intimidiatry tactics.
As you said, if they pull you over and ask for license and insurance and say they're doing routine checks, presents what they ask for, then return your credentials along with a ticket say that an illegal right turn was in violation on a dual carriage way heading from work which I take everyday, in one direction, how do you address that situation. On top of that you get attitude from the officer by asking why was a ticket issued, she turns and walks off.
But these day it is in MY opinion that, the police don't know who to target. Yuh know how granny used to say "Monkey kno wah tree to clime "
Thanks for your input into knowing your rights as a Trini. Yes, there are bad apples everywhere, including the police force. The TTPS as much as admitted there are rogue elements among them. However, apart from the tips I give it is also good to have a dash cam. Did you see my other video on the road block? Having a dash cam would have picked up anything that was not within the law.
It's very important the information stated

There is always talk about the policies that the officers have to follow , use of force , but have never seen ANY official document clearly stating what these policies . Can you post a link where any such policy can be found for same . Woulg greatly appreciate
I do not have an exact link handy. The best thing to do is look up the associated laws related to policing such as the Road Traffic Act, etc.
This is real good information every Trini should know

Good tips to know when in Trinidad.

hi... listened attentively and would say that I agree... mostly. However, although Police Officers are human like us all and have good and bad days... they work with the RULE OF LAW... and... are to BE COURTEOUS AND RESPECTFUL. I could argue that a Firefighter is also human.. and could have good and bad days... but that Firefighter's bad day may cause loss of life. Is it the same reasoning to be used??
Thanks for your input into Trinis know your rights. For this reason, I also added how one would go about seeking redress. However, it goes BOTH ways... I see many civilians treating the police like crap. In fact, in T&T there is a growing and overtaking disregard for people being treated as individuals of worth... we see each other like dogs and it is very sad.
Police in Trinidad need more rules when it comes to road block and stopping someone because of there feelings an not there observations.. when police stops u innocent an searches ur car infront of on lookers u look very bad an shameful.. thats unprofessional and backwards, dey need to do there jobs an stop rolling dice wit people time an dignity.

Question about your list of personal observations. Are all items listed against the law, though?
Won't that be up to the officer(s) to determine?
@@JBsManCavewell, if cops are pulling folks over for being a group of young men or "looking shady." Then Trinidad has a big problem with corrupt cops abusing what little power they have.
So where in law are they permitted to rough up students to correct the school uniform. Maybe not breed the hatred of police from a young age

Admittedly, the law in TnT is different to the USA and not by any great degree. Only a police officer in police uniform can demand the production of your driving documents. From the moment you are stopped by a police officer from going about your lawful business, you are under arrest. An arrest does not mean that you will be charged for an offence. An officer may request your name and address. You are under no obligation to provide him/ her,or any other information. There is no general powers of search and seizure of your person and property. This means an officer should not just stop and search you,or your property without reasonable grounds of suspicion of the commission of a crime, you are about to commit a crime,or you have commited a crime, the details about which you should be told. The other information given are on point.
Thanks for your input into Trinis know your rights. I may be wrong, but as far as I know, motor vehicle inspectors and traffic wardens can also ask for your driving documents under the Road Traffic Act 1988.
