Sheldon was a such a great character in these early seasons!
This episode does a good job of explaining the difference between Penny and a normal gold digger. She’s not fake. Penny genuinely likes and cares about these dorks. She’s also kind of insecure, just in a different way than Leonard.
The first time I saw that last scene I laughed my socks off for at least 5 minutes sheldon is so socially stupid it also reminded me the friends episode with noisy phoebe in the flat above Monica

Penny is not better than the new girl. We (viewers) just used to Penny at this point. So this is: "she is a bad girl, but she is our bad girl" situation type.
