@@robitaillecopeland1996 Nah, his conditioning was way off. James Hollingshead posted a show day video on his channel in 4k, way more telling than these low res livestream shots that every keeps basing their reviews on. Regan was flat through the chest and poorly conditioned, especially through the lower body. He's lucky to have gotten 4th, that was a gift based on his baseline genetics being the best of the bunch. If you compare the way he looked compared to James leading up to the show, he looked on stage the way James did a week ago. Missed his peak by a mile.

Agreed on all counts. Regan was excellent from the back, solid everywhere else. He was a bit off, sure. I just don't understand why the ifbb prefers a Osladil to Regan here. It's they have an algorithm that takes input of "muscle mass" and "conditioning" and spits out a win without considering aesthetics, symmetry, flow, etc.

@@BLTspace You know this is the age of social media and pros get a major chunk of their audience/image/branding from social media and collaborations. From my observation, I can safely say that the bodybuilding has evolved in past 5-6 years due to this closeness that social media has created between bodybuilders/organisers and general public. It's well known fact that the Olympia is on a decline since the "bubble gut" thing started emerging from everywhere some years ago. IFBB tried to ignore this but they recieved major backlash. Even the GOAT Arnold used this "bubble gut" thing many times to mock winners of his show. IFBB made significant changes in their judging with giving a bit lesser priority to "mass over aesthetics", that's why they made Shawn & Brandon the Mr. O in consecutive years. Now in 2020, people want the same judging criteria but suddenly judges decided to go with mass and so called "details", need not to mention that it's ironic that winner of this European Pro didn't even has abs showing on stage. So my only question to IFBB is, why go wrong when you were already on a right track?

Same. The more i look at it the worst James gets, he might have packed on the most muscle and technically be the driest, but loses in every pose imo and has huge flaws, structure, lines, posing, nothing pops or creates deep cuts. I kinda have him in last even. From the front it's Rafael, from the back Regan, and from the side, also Regan. I don't really get it anymore. And if it isn't clear already, Regan has so much potential, it isn't even funny, i even disagree with the comment of his wide stance posing, he looks big as a house (even though he's probably second to last in mass) and steady while still being extremely aesthetic.

  • @Wikingking
    @Wikingking 3 роки тому +3

very interesting lineup with these guys all having different traits and taking poses away while totally failing some others.
I think Reagan has a bright future as in many poses, he arguably had the most ideal structure or even the best proportions and mass, especially in the ever so important back poses. But his glutes and lower body cost him the victory.
Brandao looks great from the front but as they turn around, he fades increasingly (compared to the others). He needs more size, but comparing him to Patrick "new blood" Moore, I feel Brandao has a brighter future in the sport. He has one of the most aesthetic physiques out there regardless of division. Ne needs to bring some more size and come in dry as fuck and then he'll br golden. (unfortunate remark: sadly, his fanbase seems to be extremely biased in most cases and they are freakin' everywhere...just like Ramy or Kai fans, they have lost their connection with reality. Rafael is truly some bodybuilder worthy of being a fan of, but they just need to chill. Success will come and not all defeats are robberies...)
Osladil is a Branch-Cutler hybrid, combining some of the...khm...worse traits of those two (wide waist, bottom heavy, lack of flow in certain poses, but very muscular, dense).
James looked the most conditioned but if he doesn't nail it or others catch up with him then the structural flows or inadequacies will lead to his fall (just look at his lat spread poses or the front double).
Once again just like Weinberger said: conditioning, conditioning, conditioning. Guys in December really need to be aware of these decisions. The pose-for-pose most consistant AND generally most conditioned guy with least glaring flaws will win it seems. Gut: no win. Soggy glutes: no win. Not diced enough: no win.

You should check out the footage uploaded by Redcon, it's 4K and you can clearly see that Reagan was 4th, he was too smooth from the front and his quads looked tiny next to the other 3 guys. About Lukas, I think it basically came down to out muscleing Rafa from the side and back. Quite on point judging tbh.

I've watched JH train and pose via social media for years and am a big fan. But I don't necessarily think his flaws are 100% just down to genetic structure. He has an abnormally strong bench press (550+) that has translated into world class chest development, yet his lats are almost non existent. I'm pretty sure this kind of strength imbalance has led to some issues and restrictions with shoulder/upper body mechanics. You can see his scapulae tend to want to wing off his ribcage. I've had this issue before, and it seriously can affect your ability to connect with your arms and lats, as well as making you look narrower - all the weak points on JH's physique

Go watch the high resolution 4k video on James' channel, not these low res livestream comparisons. He won this show easily based on conditioning alone. He was next level compared to everyone else, granite hard and vascular. He didn't have the prettiest physique, but that's not how bodybuilding is judged.
Regan's conditioning was bad, like week out bad, he got 4th because he's the best bodybuilder out of the bunch, but didn't come in sharp at all.

If I am correctly informed, athletes in Spain are allowed to take off the mask during sports activities. For bodybuilding competitions this means that they do not have to wear the mask on stage, but have to put it on as soon as they leave the stage. Correct me if I am wrong.

Rafael is also 27 years old (2 days younger than Grimes , in fact lol) and has more muscle maturity. I think that Regan is using a lot of insulin in the carb up in order to step on stage bigger, but he is lossing his separation and condition because of that. Rafael choosed a differenct approach and came smaller but much more dry and that was key for him winning the Olympia qualification. I think thar Regan should experiment with that.

Check out the video that was just posted on James Hollingshead's channel. It was taken by his videographer and is in 4k. To my eye, he absolutely destroyed the other competitors in conditioning. Comparisons start at about 13:00 with top 4 around 16:00. I thought his tan looked too dark on the livestream, but that shows what judging off poor quality video does. He won this show hands down.
Lukas actually had better conditioning than I've seen a lot of people suggest if you look at the high resolution video, especially through the lower body. I think he and Rafael were about equivalent on conditioning, and Rafael got outmassed in a lot of shots, especially from the back. Lukas doesn't have the prettiest physique, but to me this is hardly controversial having him in 2nd. Regan deservedly got 4th based on being the worst on conditioning and looking flat through the chest (check out the side chest). I think he's the best bodybuilder in this lineup (his back development especially), but his condition just wasn't there.

Now that I look at the video again man, the camera quality of this footage is embarassing for a 'sport' that's considered 100% visual. You wouldn't technically need 8k in soccer matches where you just need to be able to differentiate players and see the ball, but this is bodybuilding. The only thing we can judge is the bodies of these athletes, detail on their muscles. I can shoot 8K videos on my PHONE and stream it through a computer and IFBB can't shoot 1080p livestreams? You kidding me?
