五枚続きの画面に、妓楼の二階の全貌が描き出されています。しかし、実際の妓楼であるかどうかはわからず、建築のモデルがあったとしても正確な間取りを反映して描いたものではなさそうです。それでも、これだけ詳細に妓楼内部で繰り広げられる悲喜交々の情景を描き込んだ作品は珍しく、吉原の大見世ではどんなことが起きていたのかを、まるで映画を観るように知ることができる。
本作は、改印から一八一三年（文化十）正月の版行とわかります。版元である西村永寿堂の名が扁額や提灯などに、幾つも刷り込まれているのを確認できます。画面右端に見える「月波楼」とは妓楼の名ではなく西村屋与八の号です。
大田南畝の狂歌「おいらんに　棹姫さんの　をつせんす　おめでたう　おす春は来にけり」（『狂歌千里風』）としるされた、軸が飾られています。意味としては以下のような感じです。「花魁や棹姫さんが、舟を漕いで春を連れてきてくれました。おめでとう！ 春がやってきましたよ！」
The screen, in a series of five images, depicts the entire second floor of a brothel. However, it is unclear if it accurately represents an actual brothel, and even if there was a model for the building, it doesn't seem to reflect the precise layout. Nevertheless, this piece stands out for its detailed portrayal of the ever-changing scenes of joy and sorrow within the brothel. It offers a rare glimpse into what was happening in the Yoshiwara pleasure quarter, almost like watching a movie.
This work is identified as being published in January 1813 (Bunka 10), based on the seal. The name of the publisher, Seiryudo Nishimura, can be seen printed on various objects such as signboards and lanterns. The "Tsukiha-ro" seen on the right side of the screen is not the name of the brothel but rather the pseudonym of Nishimuraya Yohachi.
