- My friend Nicky Haslam, having launched it first in the UK, just published his latest book, A Designer’s Life, with Rizzoli Publications in New York. His books go down extraordinarily well as his creative English wit and his acute observations.
After being struck with Polio as a child he was Educated at England’s most elite institution, Eton College, but he has never really accepted a straight and narrow path. He has always followed his keen eye and open heart. His progress will have caused many an establishment eyebrow to raise: a significant period as a Cowboy was followed (with as much energy and panache) as a photographer. His design persona then took over, creating interiors and parties for clients such as Natalie Wood. With a generous dose of belief that the world is his oyster, Nicky Haslam doesn’t recognize arbitrary limits or limitations, and so his biography now includes many accolades - author, gossip columnist and (most excitingly for me) cabaret performer… I managed to pin him down for 15 minutes for this interview…
Had the privilege of working in an Interior design company in which Nicky was a director, some 24 years ago. A very direct but gentle soul, with a very creative mind. How time has flown.
This needed to be much longer. I could have listened to him being interviewed for hours
What a truly wise and gentleman !
“ Other than love?” so honest, so true for most of us!
Nicky Haslam has always been the most wonderful man .
Lovely man😊
He reminds me of the older David Bowie but with a posh accent. Easy natural charm.
Renaissance man👏👏👏
Delicious...
Such a negative mean spirited comment!! The Duchess of Suxxex does have very common family members!!! Mr. Haslam only stated a fact not an opinion!!
I found the interview to be a delightful conversation between two old friends.
Elizabeth Perry Define common? It’s a ghastly word. Does it mean they do not come from money and privilege? I am a qualified lawyer and academic and yet my father was brought up in a council house. I guess that makes me “common” but it also makes me proud that i have achieved against society odds. Such snobs as this man are awful. A lot of these so called high borns are the worst sort of scumbags , just look at the Bullingdon Club. Anyway he certainly no gentleman. it is integrity that is the true worth of a person. Sadly this country seems to be reverting back to the Eton Mafia with Oxford and Cambridge still hostile to poorer and ethnic minority youngsters.I hope May’s government implodes soon and we can vote a Labour government in.
Mattbod I think the actions of the Duchess of Sussexs' immediate family in the last 30 days are the very definition of vulgar!! I believe her association with the British Royal Family will ultimately be disasterous. Her ethnicity is not problematic, her family connections and hunger for fame are! This will not end well....
Duchess of Success!!
@@elizabethperry3458 BRAVO!!!
@@elizabethperry3458 are you a psychic? Your prediction was accurate.

Well I am an American of Greek descent and we across the pond do not suffer from class snobbery.
Education is the greatest leveler and revenge.
It is a very BRITISH thing only
Rubbish! Haven’t you heard of the four hundred? They’re still around.
@@maxinejacobson4006 The British are the most class, money and snob conscious people on Earth, well on par with the Indian system, making many Brits unspoken üntouchables It's quite sickening. Nicky is classless, which is the exact opposite of having no class.
“Oh dahhling I decided to buy a rahhhhnch with a river running through it” : Hicks “of course as you do.” These people really are on a different planet though I hear that Haslam is pleading poverty now. I went to Public School with people like this and deliberately chose a red brick university up north to avoid them. I much prefer down to earth ordinary folk to people like this. Oh and shouldn’t it be “as one does?”
He seems very honest and down to earth to me. Wise, as well
