This is a really important video. I’m astounded that it has so few views (and so little understanding from the comments). It goes right to the heart of the whole matter. Well, I certainly appreciate it.
I haven't been on my computer for some time. Had a pleasant surprise when I saw your video in it. Love to watch you build flutes. Thanks so much for the tips and the time it takes to make these great videos for us.
I made my first bamboo flutes days ago... Good idea using the node as the membrane between air supply and sound hole. Thin cianoacrilic superglue is surely the best for hardening or fixing sound hole area. I haven't tried burning holes rather than using a drill bit... I will try using soldering iron... I'll go and cut some bamboo canes around my home today. Ciao.
Love your videos. Very transparent and informative. Was curious what type of torch head you use? I can’t find one that produces the pinpoint flame you use. Thanks. Sincerely Dan
Hey dan, I'm also replying to your email. For anyone else interested, and as much as it may sound like a plug for the company, I only use BernzOmatic torch heads. I usually purchase them from Home Depot Lowe's or Ace Hardware. These days I don't use the pencil bed any longer, if you check out one of my newer videos you'll notice that it has three pinpoints coming off of it. I'm very happy with it!
What is the difference between making one long rectangular track hole vs two individual holes? Is it just a matter of having a flat block vs having to make a air path on the bottom of a block? Hopefully that makes sense! ?
I hope that you found the answers to your other questions. Most of them are in other videos such as the secret to Native American Flute Making. Your question about the measurements of the flute in this video ua-cam.com/video/ipnp3k2ng14/v-deo.html are at 47:46. Please feel free to send any other questions you might have. Thanks for watching!
stanberryk It is a mixture of tea tree sunflower and peppermint oil. We have a video on making our Bear Wax mixture which includes these ingredients as well. Normally we just pour it in the flute and roll the flute around while doing so. Thanks for watching my friend!
Thanks for sharing your fire with us all ... so kind of you Charlie. One thing I do slightly differently instead of using the belt sander is to use a flat utility file; it cuts bamboo and cane nicely; just me, I always seem to sand too much off using the belt sander; the file keeps things under control for me. Here is the link to the type of file I use. www.nicholsontool.com/files/curved/nicholson-20547n-12-flat-utility-file.html
With a comment like that, you must be 55+. In 99% of my videos I give both the metric and standard measurements because I have people all over the world who watch, however sometimes, especially when it comes to microscopic sizes, I find that millimeters work best. Now, if you're one of those types who won't own a car with fuel injection or a computer in it because you can't work on it, I asked you how often would you actually work on it if you could? Long story short, there is learning in life. It is actually a type of self-gratification or bragging saying that you don't know the metric system. Did you know that in London they use miles per hour and everything is measured in miles and feet? There are some things that I can only say in Spanish and quite a few things I can only say in German. There are some ideas that I have that only make good sense in a Siouan language. I should probably put a disclaimer on my UA-cam channel "caution thinking ahead", but if I did, only a few people would understand the double entender or it's innuendo. Thanks again for watching.
Now that we know it's a level stationary earth, we can laugh at the idea of einstein being a genius thinker, not attainable by the common man. He did away with the ether to complete his math magic.

One of the best tools you offer us is troubleshooting. Thank you for your musical wisdom.

What is the oil you use inside the flute and how do you put it inside? I have an idea; swab and rod maybe!

Maybe I missed it but what was the purpose of the glue? It looked like it was just sanded off (when wet?). ??
hello friend, the tube is completely hollow ?
and indeed good job friend I love what you do , keep it up :)
No, there is a partition near the sound hole.
