    In the third episode of the Yamaha Ténéré 700 10k project I'm talking about OutEx kit tubeless conversion which I use.
    I’ve included sections on why I use tubeless as well as I'm going through the issues I have with tubeless in general.
    There is very important section on types of rims, talking about differences about the WT and MT rims and why we need to care.
    There is a section on TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system) I’m using.

      I'm back on the tubeless in the back so let's see how it goes. If it leaks a bit I'll try the tire selants (milk). Although now thinking about it... it may interfere with my pressure sensors.

    Hi, great vids! I was wondering with your recent adventures offroad, how it the tubless conversion holding?
    Do you air down the tyres and if so, how much to ride safe without popping the bead?
    Thinking of doing it on mine with 3M tape. Let me know your experience so far. Thanks and congrats for the content 👌👌

    • @FARANDFURTHER
      @FARANDFURTHER  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, glad you find videos useful. The tubeless conversion holds perfect. I found few days ago that I have a bit dented rim in the front but it still holds well and with new tires does not leak at all.
      I air down to 20psi for off-road no less, to be on the safe side, but I usually ride such hard tires that I'm not entirely sure if it does make any difference except in my head.
      OutEx says min is 18psi if you don't have the tubeless safe rim, which I don't in the front. Rear I can ride as low as I want but front I keep aired up and with all the off-road training, log jumping and so on... so far so good.
      I've done now 16k km on the system on T7 and about 60k km on Honda CB500X on previous trip.

      I have TKC80 in front and Mitas E-07+ Dakar in the rear. The tubeless does not affect choice of tyres but you can’t fit TT tyre anymore only TL ones.

    i run outex tubeless and my ktm 690 and 790 adv rally. i have popped the bead off the front rims on both bikes. i use rim locks to mitigate the issue. since using a rim lock on the 690, it's hasn't happened again. one rim lock didn't prevent the bead from unseating on the 790 -i ride it like a dirt bike. so, i'm adding a second rim lock to the 790 front rim. we'll see.

    • @FARANDFURTHER
      @FARANDFURTHER  4 роки тому

      Wow this is super interesting info! What pressure you run? Do you think you pop it off the bead because of the pressure or because you ride it like a dirt bike? I guess for the dirt bike riding the MT rim would be also solution...? Rim locks sounds like great trick!

    • @damytzeus
      @damytzeus 4 роки тому +1

      @@FARANDFURTHER on the 690, i run as low as 14 psi in the front/rear. the 790 is fairly new to me and so i'm still experimenting. i was running about 24 psi in the front of 790, when the bead unseated. i think the bead came off because of riding it like a dirt bike. i intentionally blasted into rocks at speed to test the tubeless and custom rims. so, i was actually trying to unseat the bead and punish the rims because i wanted to find the limits of the setup, since it's new to me. i run excel takasago heavy duty rims, size 1.85 in the front and 2.5 in the rear. the challenge with rim locks is getting them to seal on tubeless setup. i've customized the rim locks to handle tubeless setup.

      This is great information, fascinating. Thanks a lot for sharing! I think we can conclude that with normal use it would be very difficult to unseat the tire!
      So does the Excel Takasago rim come with the rim lock hole? Or you just drill it?

    Did you consider the Tubliss system? It locks the tyre bead to the wheel rim all the way around so is even more effective in keeping a tyre on the rim than a normal tubeless system. However, it is not DOT rated for the road yet, so I guess each person has to decide whether that matters or not. It does not mean that it wouldn't pass the regulations, just that as yet as far as I know, it has not been submitted. Just me personally, I am going to experiment with it because I have have met KTM 500 owners who use it at 80 -90 mph road speeds. That said, a 500 EXC is a lot lighter than a T700, but I cannot see any reason why there should be a problem, after all the tyre is going to be running a lot cooler than it is with a tube. What does anyone else think about Tubliss?

    • @FARANDFURTHER
      @FARANDFURTHER  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, I've heard about Tubliss system and I think for more agressive off-road it probably does make sense and maybe safer than the OutEx system I'm using (especially when I don't have tubeless safety rim, in the front).
      I think I will give it a try at some point, at the moment OutEx works well, however it probably is not DOT rated and may be questionable solution due to front rim.

    cool video and clear information based on your experience - great! i'd like to upgrade my t7 and your thoughts and comments are very helpful and highly recommended. for the tubeless system: does a tire sealant give additional safety or do you think that could cause problems? thanks for your answer - and enjoy the trails!

    • @FARANDFURTHER
      @FARANDFURTHER  4 роки тому

      Hi, I'm glad the video has been helpful. Just keep in mind the minimum pressure and you should be fine. I'm now doing some harder off-road/enduro on the OutEx and so far no problems. I keep 20psi as minimum.
      Tyre sealant will not give it additional safety, the risk of popping tire off-bead won't be mitigated by the sealant. You will only make your life easier as punctures will seal automatically.
      I don't know if you could make it worse. Naturally if the sealant reacts with the sealing tape it would be bad, but I don't think it would be case. However best would be to ask OutEx on this one.
      Some people commented here that they use rim locks with the OutEx, which makes a lot of sense and would minimize risk of tire popping off the bead.

    Maybe I missed it, but do you use a latex sealant in motorcycle tires? I'm a mountain biker and tubeless with sealant is the only way to go. Does the general speed of a motorcycle vs a bicycle make a difference in regards to sealant?

    • @FARANDFURTHER
      @FARANDFURTHER  2 роки тому

      There is no latex sealant in my setup. It's a tape which is applied on the spokes (nipples). A lot of people combine this with the latex or other sealant products in case the tape fails or there are leaks around the rim.
      I don't think there is big difference between the two, but effectively the tubeless on the bike is like tubeless on the car. The rims maybe a bit different from the mountain bikes though.

    Interesting that I have not come across a single vid/article on tubeless motorcycle tire conversions that mention the use of sealant. It is SOP to use sealant on tubeless mountain bike tires/wheels, and there are even sealants with higher temperature tolerance specifically for motorcycle tires. Seems to me that using sealant should be standard in MC tubeless conversions, and not just thought of as something to help stop leaking after a flat. Keep in mind that sealant should be used sparingly; just enough to get into the entirety of both wheel beads.

    • @FARANDFURTHER
      @FARANDFURTHER  3 роки тому

      Hi Steven, by “sealant” you mean something like Slime? The liquid which you have in the tyre to automatically seal when you have flat?

      Would you be able to point me to a brand, just for an example. I know few products like Slime but that is not designed (AFAIK) to seal the spokes. The one reason I see for something like OutEx or Bartubless is the fact it will last through multiple tire changes or allow emergency tube use.

    • @FARANDFURTHER
      @FARANDFURTHER  4 роки тому

      Good point, as usually! I think the OutEx would probably not be best option in this case. Once you apply sticky tape, on top of it you apply white protective one which is not sticky. So most of the surface is not sticky. But obviously the sides will remain as it’s impossible to do it perfectly... so some of your Dynabeads would stick to the sides, yes.
