    Can you make a slytherin charm like in Harry Potter

  • @junobeau
    @junobeau 7 років тому

    You can get molds from a lot of craft stores such as Michael's, or sometimes at regular stores in the cooking section. If not, you can buy them pretty much anywhere online.

    I love the spooky one. So cute!!
    Where did you get your mold from? I've tried a soap mold from Hobby Lobby and it was very difficult to remove the pieces.

    • @VelvetWay
      @VelvetWay  8 років тому +8

      I wouldn't recommend plastic soap molds because they are too rigid to remove the resin piece from properly.But silicone soap molds would work. There's also a huge selection of soft plastic molds on Etsy if you'd like to check it out. These molds came from a shop that no longer exists, so I can't redirect :(

      Yeah I found that out the hard way. My pieces came out fine but I had to cut the molds off of them so they are down for the count. Thank you for replying! I'll just keep an eye out online for better molds!

  • @rachelc9479
    @rachelc9479 7 років тому +5

    surely if you had the letters how the are at the start they'd be upside down?! i know they j have to be reversed but the As in galaxy girl are pointing down? im so confused :)

    • @VelvetWay
      @VelvetWay  7 років тому +4

      It's a suuuper confusing process haha. Basically, the letter beads have to be reversed and some of them have to be upside down. The way I get them set up is I place the word properly, take a picture, flip it, then put all the beads on a piece of tape in the reversed order. Then i look on the underside of the tape and if the word makes sense then I remove the beads one by one and place in the mold. That ensures that I dont' make mistakes. I think I'll try making a video explaining this process, because I get a lot of questions about it :P

    • @rachelc9479
      @rachelc9479 7 років тому +2

      Velvet Way thank you so much! You should defo do a vid! I guess this would make sense - I forgot the bead probably has a letter the other way up on the reverse...

    Hi, great video! Question- do you let the resin set before adding the pigment colors or do you apply right after to put the letters in?! Thank you!

  • @MoonLust
    @MoonLust 7 років тому +2

    what kind of resin do you use? I've been using Epoxy resin from Lowes, I get good results, but I don have much working time at all, its stiffens in about 5 minutes so I usually one do 1-2 at a time

    • @VelvetWay
      @VelvetWay  7 років тому +7

      I use Clearcast 7000 which I buy online. It's one of the cheapest by volume and best in terms of curing, color and bubbles. I've tried many many brands but this one is definitely my go to. Keep in mind though that it's thinner in consistency, so it's not ideal for doming pieces. :)

      what is the resin called?

    • @VelvetWay
      @VelvetWay  7 років тому +1

      In this video, I use Clearcast 7000. It's very good, but because I am not able to get it readily in Canada anymore, I have been using Art Resin instead, and I highly recommend it. It's more expensive than Clearcast 7000, but still quite affordable, and it has nearly no smell!

    • @VelvetWay
      @VelvetWay  7 років тому +2

      I bought mine from a shop that has since closed down, but I have seen them on etsy, aliexpress and ebay before. Just search silicone heart molds, and you should be able to find them. Keep in mind that because they're located in China, they'll take up to two months to get to you! Good luck!

    • @VelvetWay

      You have to mirror them so that when you un-mold the piece they're in the correct order.

      I got the letters in Michael's, but you can find them online too. You basically have to put them in in reverse. Wait until the resin gets a little tacky because otherwise they start floating :)

    • @VelvetWay

      They need to be mirrored so that the text is written properly when taken out of the mold. :)

    • @funstuffwithmommyandme7973
      @funstuffwithmommyandme7973 6 років тому +3

      Ok so what is happening with the letters? I know they have to be backwards so they are correct when you flip it over HOWEVER when you put them in they are also upside down from how they are when you unmold it. For example look at the 'y' in spooky...the top of the 'y' is towards the point of the heart but then when you unmold it the top of the 'y' is towards the curve of the heart. All the letters are like that. What's happening? 🤤😨🤔
