I just learned how to make breakfast sausage watching a video from ATK, using pork butt ground from scratch. Didn't even dawn on me to just go get ground pork and add the sage and brown sugar. Makes it so much easier.

Christy - I have that same salt box/canister like over your stove. Mine belonged to my Swedish grandmother, probably 100 years old by now (the box, not grandma!). Thanks for the recipe...

I loved to watch my mother do this. The only difference was she mixed the spices together before adding them to the meat. She said that prevented one spice being in one portion and another somewhere else. My mouth watered all through this video...

      Jetsgardner,
What a great idea, as a matter of fact I'm going to make a big jar of the spice mix for future recipes. My thanks to your mom. 👋😎👍

I lived in Dallas, Texas before moving back home to Africa. I recently went back to Dallas to visit some of my family that lives there. I love Jimmy Dean sausages. I ate them for breakfast everyday during my stay in Dallas….lol. I’ll definitely try this recipe! ❤

Thank you for such a down to earth recipe. It can become quite tedious, when the ingredients aren’t available, or not normally used in a layman’s kitchen.

That is a problem in European countries. I lived in Germany for several years, but I had access to the military commissary, so American brands. My fiancé lives in Ukraine, so there is even less chance of finding it there, but I want to make her some Biscuits & Gravy for breakfast one day.

My dad (RIP) used to make sausages but, I never took down his recipe. I will try the one that is the regular one to see if it tastes like his. He was making breakfast sausages before there ever was a Jimmy Dean. Thank you for showing us these.

Just made the 2 types of sausage and as ground pork is often on sale around here and much cheaper than even frozen sausage meat rolls ($6.97 a pound here) these are my new go-to's. Our family loved the hot ones and I might even add a little more cayenne to them. Next time pork is on sale I will make and freeze a bunch of patties for when we go to the cottage later this summer. Thanks for the recipe Christy!

Definitely going to try this. Jimmy dean is the only sausage my family likes, but not at $5 a pound. I recently hit the jackpot at our local Grocery Outlet, they had Jimmy Dean Sausage for .99 cents a lb. It was close to use by date and frozen, that didn't bother me I got 20 of them. We use the hot also for our Country Gravy, it's delicious.

Wow that is a awesome bargain. I do put more sage than what the recipe calls for. We love sage. Our Walmart charges $4.82 so making it has saved us some $.

@@BootsAndBonnetWithChrisChristy My Hubby loves extra sage and I love extra heat. Can't wait to see you can the sausage. I never thought of that. You saved quite a bit by making it yourself, especially with the price of the ground pork.

For the Italian style use pepper flakes , basil , fennel seed. With tyme , light oregano salt and pepper . For the sweet heavy basil , light red pepper. Italian spice and whatever your preference you feel make a small 3 bite patty and cook it to make adjustments according to your preference

@@BootsAndBonnetWithChrisChristy MSG is completely fine. the ignorance is annoying. More media manipulation. Like margarine being better for you or seed oil being healthy while good oils like lard and cocunut oil were purported to be bad. Because some Chinese restaurants over used it in the 70s and 80s doesn't make it bad for you in normal amounts. Of course its your choice, just hope its an educated choice. 100% of the people I know that won't use it have no idea why.. Silliness. its a great tool in the kitchen.

    • @sandijammes7761
      @sandijammes7761 Рік тому

@Mark Nagan - MSG is a man made chemical. It has no nutritional value & if you'll research it a little, you'll find studies on how it affects the brain. For some of us, it's not silliness, it's directly related to severe headaches at the very least.
      Have a good day.

Is it 1 teaspoon of salt for both types or 1/2? On the original it is said use 1/2 then to use the same amount as in the hot. Also, is rubbed sage used for both? Thank you. Looks like a tasty recipe and can't wait to try it!

In your hot recipe, you started with ONE TEASPOON OF SALT. In the REGULAR RECIPE, you stated 1/2 tsp of salt, "just like last time" meaning just like the hot recipe. Which is it? One teaspoon or 1/2 teaspoon? Thanks.
