An unboxing and first look at the Berghaus Hillwalker 2 GTX boots. A traditionally designed boot from Berghaus constructed for the wet British weather. With a leather outer shell and a Gortex lined membrane they should perform better than the synthetic boots out there.

Leather is often better for waterproof shoes. Other materials often don't hold it...
I like the mid's as well!

Hey there Kaat, yeah I agree the leather have a good record and these are gortex to. Wax them and they should last. My walk is tomorrow - should be a good test. It's 7 years to the day since my dear Paul died so a memorial walk. All the best over there. Mark
Hi Mark I'm sure you will be pleased with the Berghaus boots I have a similar pair I have had for years and have performed well on two of my wettest thruhikes of the West Highland way and the cumbria Way I know I now use trail runners but I still have the boots and they still have plenty of life in them. 👌 have a great hike atb daz
Alright there Darren. For sure mate there is room for these traditional leathers. In winter and in the bogs when it is cold I don't think trail will cut it. Good to hear you have a similar pair and they've done well. That's encouraging. All the best out there bro. Mark

I’ve had the material GORE-TEX boots which are ok for summer but the winter months no good, I use the Brasher
Leather goretex boot which is very similar to those. I use the leder gris to keep them supple and weatherproof. And they work well in these wet conditions like we’re having . Atb Dave

I have two pairs of these (the brasher version) and the 1st pair have only lasted 10years and hundreds of hikes. 😂
Just started with the spare pair I bought when they were on offer for £60 (a fair few years ago mind) my go to walking boot now. So comfy too, if my blasted plantar fascia would go way then I could resume some hill walking this year.
Anyway, long time no see mark. I fell away from your channel for some reason so I am now going to sub again. I don't remember unsubbing. Hopefully I will return to Haybluff this year and walk to the Black Hill and back.

Glad you got your replacement boots Mark bro ! I've heard that Berghaus are excellent !! I always prefer leather boots to the more modern fabrics that so often split and fail ! Get some dubbin on those leather boots and they will work a treat in wet conditions !! Hope you have a superb weekend my friend !

Interesting Mark - Sue has a pair of these and they’ve been brilliant. Very comfortable and have been hard wearing. We walked through the flooded and boggy heath in the New Forest yesterday and she kept totally dry. We’ve done about 25 miles in the last three days so that was good. I have some Mammut and they’ve been very good too

Hi there Jenny, they're not just food looking they did awesome in the Beacons yesterday in super wet and boggy conditions. I've worn technical/synthetic boots before but they just don't hold up in the bog land I go into. Were them Merrel's leather. Well, have a great week ahead. Mark

Hi Mark. Looks like a decent pair of boots. I'm not great with looking after the leather boots I'm afraid so I've usually gone with synthetic. But now I've got some Scarpas so will have to be a bit more diligent!
Hey, Roger I have some Scarpa, which I use in the wetter boggier regions - they're very good. Used em on my last camp in fact. These? They feel comfy and I trust Berghaus. All the best dude. Mark
Hi Mark. They look like they will be up to Scratch mate. Berghaus tend to have a good reputation. Get some waterproofing treatment on them for added protection, it will pay dividends. I have a pair of Meindl which are so comfortable, with a hard wearing sole, they have a very similar lacing system to the ones you have just bought. Be interesting to hear your thoughts on them pal. Strange about the Scarpa - are they technical boots or leather GTX? Well, I'd recommend the Berghaus Hillwalker 2. Take care - have a good week ahead.
Hi Mark the ones that failed were Rush TRK - I’ll do a follow review on them. The original were the same full leather GTX that I think you also have - but they are too heavy for multi day hikes but they never failed in 5 years; hence why I went back to Scarpa. Alright there Ryan, yeah there good bro. I tested them out yesterday over 15 miles in the Beacons and in bog/super wet all day. They performed awesome and are light weight and comfy out of the box. One stitch on em so good for waterproof quality and and not to expensive. All the best out there. Mark

I must say I own many outdoor items that claim to be waterproof and unfortunately most, if not all, are only water resistant to a point then get soaked.... Good looking boots my friend..

Nice looking stompers ther! But, oi Mark, I have a pair of meindl perfects here still. Size 42 (eu) in mint condition. My knees can't handle their wheight anymore. These boots are very heavy and very traditional. Look them up, If you want them, I can send them.

I tried to sell them on the dutch second hand site, but we dutch are just too damn rich, nobody cares for secondhand stuff anymore.

Could do with a good comfy and water proof pair of boots myself,.I get problems with my feet and arthritis in my toes. Especially with the wet ground . Never been able to find the right ones. Alright steve. Sounds like your feet have been seeking out a good pair for a while. Tested these in the Beacons yesterday in the wet and bog. They were comfy out the box and dry. They have one stich line so few chances of a leak. They're good. All the best. Mark
