Dear Mr. Ragone, You may remember me. My Mom graduated YHS 1939. I graduated 1971, and know that address well. Park Hill. My mom was Lt. Helen. Godspeed 🫡 🇺🇸
Thats incredible and sad. Your grandfather sounded like a damn good man and left a hell of a legacy as many of thise heroes who didnt return did. God bless the greates generation.
My dad sent a letter to my proposing marriage while hunkered down in a basement in a France. He missed D-day by 5 days due to injury during training. Bless the men and women who served in the great wars
Wow Nick! I know this story, you've shared it before, but it still makes my eyes moist and my heart heavy. Thanks for sharing and keeping the story of your grandfather alive. We know he got that hug and kiss he longed for.
This just broke 💔 me 😢😢.. I am so sorry for this and I can only repay you for saving us from those monsters over in Germany bye saying Thank you and I love you and I promise to try my hardest to be a decent person and American as you paid the ultimate price for out freedom....
That's your Grandad!?!! Yes, I can see a little resemblance in you. This is such a heroic tradgedy for your family. Thank you for sharing it, Nick. 💕 My Dad was in the Pacific Ocean at that time while serving in the Coast Guard. He saw a bit of action when he watched our ships getting disabled or going down because of Kamakazie attacks. He picked up floating sailors: some alive; some unalive. He didnt talk much about it. He died two weeks shy of his 98th birthday at the beginning of 2020's Covid 19 pandemic. It took a deadly new virus to take him out. Otherwise he might have continued to live forever.
This one hit hard for me. Home town. I know the address. Bottom of Park Hill, Yonkers. This was like "little Italy". I attended HS up the street. Cafe Puglia made my wedding cake. I'm not Italian, I'm Slavic. ☦️
Feb 21, 1945 is exactly 24 years before my wife was born. Makes me realize how connected those our age are to all of the sacrifices made during the war. Videos like this help those younger than us understand at least a little. Thanks and Merry Christmas!
He gave up everything. He gave us all his future days, dreams, hopes and a full life. I am truly appreciative of your sacrifices. May your mrmory be eternal in the loving care of Lord Jesus Christ.😢😢😢😢😢
The one thing that every terrible war shares is death, you fear it, you run from it, some try to hide from it, some welcome it, but in the end if its your time to go home then you must, but the love you have for others, and the love they have for you will always survive death.
@ThisDate - So, this is the reason for your passion & dedication to The Greatest Generation. It's really sad, isn't it, Nick. So, I'm with you in doing all we can do to Honor & Remember our ancestors. Lest we Never Forget.
We stand on the shoulders of those who came before. I am humbled at their service and sacrifice. Stories, real stories like this one, led me to a life of service in uniform. I hope his family knows the inspiration their sacrifice made happen.
❤🙏🙌 Thank you so much for my freedom & I mean it with my whole heart. It's madding to me (& should be to everyone who has their feeedom) about every innocent life that was taken. I respect every Military fighter, every citizen, every worker who worked for every fighter & of course, every family who lost their loved one while helping fight for the World's freedom. I've never taken my freedom for granted, nor will I ever ❤🇺🇸💙 I hope you will stop for a minute in uour day to thank every fighter in every nation for their bravery & their fight when they were really scared to no end 🪖🫡✈️🦅 God bless your souls & may God bless your families for generations ❤❤❤ from a proud daughter of a WWII Veteran who fought in Pearl Harbor US Navy 🫡✈️ 🕊🙏🙌✝️😇❤️🇺🇸💙🤲🌿
One of these stories should be played for high schoolers every day. They would soon develop an appreciation for past generations.
At 63 for me and my Family every day is VETERANS DAY!!!!!!
I believe in this one hundred and fifty percent
Excellent idea
I AGREE with you…. 😟😟😟😞😞🇺🇸🪖
As a high schooler, I also agree. There are some fellow kids who could appreciate the elder generations and what they did more.
God bless that soldier. 🙏
You took the words right out of my mouth. Truly the greatest generation.

I was hoping for him to have survived. What a loving message. My heart aches.
The letter was perfect reflection of a warm and loving man who knew what he valued most in life. So sad he didn’t come back.
Thank you. Your allowing us access to "the stories" of these selfless extraordinary men and your quiet yet commanding message ...they mattered. Yes.
War destroys families. God bless this man and his family. The Greatest Generation and all their sacrifice.

The sad reality of war. Thanks to all of those soldiers that give their outmost, and sacrifice so much to defeat the enemy. May they rest in Glory. 🇺🇸

Thank You, Sir, for your service.
Miserable conditions, inadequate rest, rationed food and seemingly endless movement….American Heroes 🇺🇸🇺🇸

Your grandfather would be proud of you
May he rest in peace.
Rest In Peace brother--As a veteran who finds it weird when people “thank
me for my service” let me say to this soldier, “thank you for your service.”

Whoa. Another One Who Gave All. There is a very sad heart breaking true story with each loss. Is PFC Thomas One Of Your Relatives?
Yes, he was our grandfather. Our dad (Frank) was only 6 when his father was killed

I was under the impression that if you had children you werent taken into military service. Perhaps hecasked for a waiver.
