Shaun ever the gentleman and on form the second most entertaining player in the game. I was there for the first session I bought tickets before it started. Couldn't have asked for better players to see in my first snooker match
Is it just me or has snooker as sport revived big time in recent years. Iv always been a huge fan but lots of people have gained interest in it of late. Its great hopefully it keeps getting bigger😊
Ronnie is now 3 trophies away of equal Hendry. He's already the best player that ever lived according to Hendry himself. Still going strong at the age of 42! Legend!
Ronnie simply fantastic, Shaun Murphy was very happy when he said that if he did not play his best game would not win, congratulations to you Shaun Murphy for the sincerity
Ronnie's work around the reds is always enjoyable to watch. Not his best game, but clearly the long pot to the Right head corner from the rail was incredible. This was after Murphy punished him to same spot 3 times previously. Hopefully Murphy can bring a better game soon.
I highly doubt it. Alex Higgins was crowned the best of his time. Stephen Hendry was crowned the best of his time. Ronnie is crowned the best of his time. Someone else will come. Someone else will swoop Snooker off the floor. Someone will be comparable to Higgins, Hendry, O’Sullivan....just gotta give it time. Ronnie can still keep up with the youth. Davis couldn’t anymore, it became too much. White is struggling to keep his wit. Once the “next” era player comes, we’ll know. And then Ronnie will be a “was the best of his era”. Of course, he’s the GOAT, but hopefully you catch my drift.
Alvin Moua Higgins was not the best of his time, he was the most charismatic. Audience figures went down in the nineties, when the uncharismatic Hendry was winning everything and invariably beat crowd favourite Jimmy White. As the commentator said in this video, (while sitting next to Hendry,) O’Sullivan is unique in that he’s so charismatic that even when he’s totally dominant the crowd still all want him to keep winning, something that could never be said about Hendry or Steve Davis.
And I completely agree that Ronnie is unique in that sense. It's a personal take on Higgins. But point of the matter is there will be another player who'll carry on the dominance of a new era. Whenever that happens. I will say, Ronnie HAS to retire first before this person emerges. Just my take on it.
Aah... fine day to pick for Murphy to turn off the Terminator mode... I guess Ronnie deserves to win then, even though he made the same errors and broke down. Cos a lot less negative shots for once. Plus a few really nice ones :)
Hi folks, 1st of all i would like to introduce myself, my names Mick, i never really had a bond with my father nor did we spend much time together until recently when we started going down the local snooker hall for a few frames, to be honest we were both crap at first but gradually got a little bit better and it was`nt long before we were knocking huge breaks in the likes of 5 or even 7 but we felt we could do better as we were reliably informed by other Snookerists in the club that some of the professionals that play on TV after they qualify during the Radio stages were hitting home breaks of up to 20 plus if the tables was playing well, after hearing this i decided to search UA-cam for videos of other Snookerists and discovered this dude called Rocket o`Sullivan or summat? (never heard of him?) after a couple of years painstakingly analysing all of the footage available on UA-cam of this rocket guy i started comparing our games and tried to see what i was doing different to him that was holding me back from hitting the high scores of like 11 etc and then it hit me like one of those Eureka moments... "perhaps i should try using a cue as well instead of this Badminton racket" i tell ya what since switching i`m almost hitting double figures and i`m trying to convince my dad to get a cue as well now but he insists he`s quite happy using his frying pan now hes got used to it.......
For some reasons Murphy is a very comfortable opponent for O'Sullivan, maybe coz ROS's inner stability is stronger. Besides, O'Sullivan had extra day to rest, Murphy had some health problems and his performance with Williams was quite unstable - he slackened his game in the end and I even thought he could lose. It could be interesting at least if Shaun's performance had been stable and strong, so it was one-way ride. Premier league gave 1k pounds for each century but guys who plan prize funds today might think that even 147 is too easy to be covered by special awards, I can understand them, yet snooker could be more fun then. In general, O'Sullivan was good in this final - not a matter of good form but the way of his attitude to game. He is not ideal, yet, indeed in a way he sets the tone to snooker.
As an American I don't understand the rules of snooker but i can recognize and appreciate a champion. O'Sullivan must be a genius of the game and a true champion. Tried playing snooker but the holes are too small and the table too big. Give me big pockets and a little table ;-]). Honestly, I don't see how these two make these impossible shots look so easy. Now I've become a snooker enthusiast. (Not wanting to embarrass myself, I'll watch)
Darren Walton Yeah, but I think he won't go all in in that tournament. Considering that everytime he won one this season he had an early exit in the next tournament.
Djordje Petrovic Yes you're quite correct my apologizes, my memory playing tricks on me. He did however earlier in the season get to the Champion of Champions Final and then the following week he won the Shanghai Masters so he can perform well at consecutive tournaments.
Life is good when you're a winner. I think I exist solely to be Ronnie's opposite, without me he wouldn't exist either, so you've me to thank for his presence.
You are absolutely right. I wish I could ask Ronnie about this shot, whether he wanted to pass through the gap or hit the red to push it towards the corner pocket. He definetely did not intend to hit the pink to open the reds, in this case he would have hit harder.
Exactly. The pace of that shot alone tells you he wasn't going for the pink because if he did at that speed and got anything less than half ball, he would've been snookered. Also, where he strikes the cue ball tells you that he was either expecting a) that to happen which we see in the match or b) he would delicately canon the loose red on the way back up the table giving him a chance at either the right middle or top corner pocket. Either way, extremely brave shot that only he could actually pull off! If there was ever a candidate for the single greatest snooker shot, this would definitely be a solid contender for me!
Saaammirai Definitely going for half ball pink to open last 4 or 5 reds. Very little power needed. Often does it in similar positions. Example of how little power is needed, with double the amount of reds, when not tightly packed.. ua-cam.com/video/NoB2tEElzkI/v-deo.html
Reg free ball in the 2nd frame, I also have strong feeling as Mr. Ronnie. that wasn’t a free ball as red was clearly ahead of pink in that particular position and cue ball could have passed by both the sides i felt.. But great sportsman spirit shown from both the players as they both were unselfish in that occasion. I wish i see such spirit in all other sports as well-regards, Er.L..Nagaraj, KSBA, Bangalore
You are wrong, in order for it not to be a free ball it's not sufficient for the obstructing ball to be behind the ball on, it must be possible to actually hit the side of the ball on with the cue ball. So the pink would have to be half a ball diameter behind, which it clearly wasn't.
I am a little new to snooker, so I was wondering why Ronnie thought it was not a free ball in the 2nd Frame. Is there a distance rule or something that comes into play?
That free ball ruling at 23:00 -- what is up with that? Announcers didn't really explain it. Then at 43:35 "deliberate miss" -- what is the difference?
Floyd Maxwell Floyd Maxwell At 23:00 the free ball was awarded to O'Sullivan because Murphy 1 made a foul, and 2 after doing so left O'Sullivan in a position where he couldn't strike any legal object ball(in this case a red ball) on both extreme edges(note that even if another red would be blocking a red behind it that COULD be struck on both extreme edges if the blocking red was not in front of it, that would still count as being able to hit both extreme edges of the red being blocked and no free ball would be awarded, but in this case the extreme right edge of the left-most red next to the pink is still being blocked by the pink, not just by the other red). In the second example, O'Sullivan didn't make a foul, so Murphy simply has to play as usual. Let me know if I misunderstood your question.
Floyd Maxwell I think that's probably because there is a very similar but slightly different rule. If a player makes a foul and a miss is called twice in a row and the s are put back for the player to replay the shot, sometimes you'll see the referee warn them that they'll lose the frame if they don't hit the object ball the third time. However, that rule only comes into play if the player can hit a legal object ball "full in the face"; not having to be able to hit either edge of the ball as dictated by the free ball rule. They're some of the most complicated rules in they are both slightly different and each has their own quirky exceptions.
Complicated indeed. Thank you for trying to clarify my thinking. This match is particularly full of uncharacteristic play -- Ronnie's 3 early steals, for example. Love the game. Cheers.
Floyd Maxwell a free ball is simply awarded when your opponent is enable to oevercomr the snooker and the cue ball stops in a way that you cant see any red ball if its the legal playing ball so it will be called a s a free ball now when a free ball is awarded then all the colour ball on the becomes red ball for the 1 shot as ronnie did with the blue on the top right corner blue will gave ronnie 1 point and than when he plays brown after a red ball it will gave him 4 points and the next ball he will be playing will gonna be the actual red ball. secong question of yours. you completely misunderstood what commentators was saying. when before the murphy's shot ronnie was on a snooker so he took first two shot to observe the position of the snooker because he wanted the delicate touch so that he can come up to the bulk area. Thats what was commentator was saying that murphy should have also played like that he should have also deliberately miss the snooker tow observe the position for the delicate touch. I hope this clears your doubt.
It's kind of annoying watching these on UA-cam because it's easy to tell who's going to win by how much time the video has left. Ronnie has 7 wins and Murphy has 3 with only an hour left. Hmm, no spoilers there.
can someone explain why the umpire count a differrent point then the number showing on the screen (at least frame one on Sullivan and frame 2 on Murphy)
Only counting points earned during that time at the table. It is not cumulative. So if Ronnie gets on the table and has 10 and pots a red. The Ump starts at 1, not 11.
rizqi arfi O'Sullivan has won 5 ranking events this season I assume you are referring to the CVB Snooker Challenge which is a non ranking 5 man team event where O'Sullivan only played three matches and one of them was a doubles match.
Yes great to see Ronnie win the master the legend great to see how Shaun Murphy praised Ronnie a true gentleman, the only thing that annoyed me was the commentator Phil Yates his knowledge of snooker and his voice are terrible, I have to turn the sound down when he's on, get a ex snooker player who knows the game know's the shots and how to play them not somebody like him he a'int got a clue.
Can somebody help me out with this: I once knew the name of the referee, but can't remember it now. In fact this happend twice. And I remember the commentators mentioned it. But I couldn't understand it properly. So, what's his name ? Thank you for your help, in case there is any.
Push... Murphy did a push shot. You're not allowed to push, you must strike only. In that particular case, you have to elevate the cue and strike downward... Murphy was going for cueball placement, got called on it.
You have to be able to hit both sides of a red. There wasn't a red available that Ronnie could hit both sides of without fouling - the closest he could get to hitting both sides of a red was the red near the pink, but the pink was just covering the left side of that red.
Great to see Ronnie looking in good health and playing matches. This is just brilliant for everyone in snooker and the fans.
Shaun ever the gentleman and on form the second most entertaining player in the game. I was there for the first session I bought tickets before it started. Couldn't have asked for better players to see in my first snooker match

Missed this when it was on. Thanks for uploading it without spoiling the result! :)
Ronnie is now 3 trophies away of equal Hendry. He's already the best player that ever lived according to Hendry himself. Still going strong at the age of 42! Legend!
Shaun Murphy is an absolute star, probably the best attitude in the sport!

Thanks for the upload
48:39 Commentator: "This seems a very difficult shot to me."
Roonie: "Hold my beer!"
If RonnieO is again overlooked for sports personality of the year, after 5 ( and counting) ranking events, there should be a national enquiry !
Ronnie has far too much personality to ever be nominated for Sports Personality of the Year.
David Legard How sad, that you’re probs right
Well they only nominate popular sports - like Speed skating and Taekwondo !!
It’s not a sport...
Adz Faz really ?
Appreciate the upload, cheers!
I like Murphy's playing style, swift and accurate. Plus his jolly face and personality.
A great player indeed.
O'Sullivan still the best.
Ronnie's work around the reds is always enjoyable to watch. Not his best game, but clearly the long pot to the Right head corner from the rail was incredible. This was after Murphy punished him to same spot 3 times previously. Hopefully Murphy can bring a better game soon.

Well done, Ron. Spot on...
Haven't had a television for five years now, just didn't realise how much I'd missed snooker.
Imagine snooker world without ronnie...I'm sure I will loose interest in snooker as a fan
many of the Chinese players are interesting enough, but they 'aint a Ronnie

@Miles Rudy i watch on Flixzone. Just google for it :)

The King of snooker
If he wins The Worlds, that has to be the greatet season ever. Good luck Ronnie! #6
Djordje Petrovic He's still got the China Open before that.
Darren Walton Yeah, but I think he won't go all in in that tournament. Considering that everytime he won one this season he had an early exit in the next tournament.
Djordje Petrovic Actually O'Sullivan has won the last two events he has entered.
Darren Walton He lost to Higgins in Welsh Open QF.

Murphy's face wouldn't be out of place on a jar of Gerber's baby food, lol.

my wife and I love him too bits. he's the cutest man alive
He looks like Mr Tumble lol
No numpties indeed 😂
So much respect for Murphy!!!
Ronnie picked up more shit of the table with his fingers than Murphy actually potting balls
Peoples Champion, legend, master , .... I've run out of superlatives...!!!
Life is good when you're a winner. I think I exist solely to be Ronnie's opposite, without me he wouldn't exist either, so you've me to thank for his presence.
2:02:40 Probably one of the greatest shots in the entire sport. I feel like it should have gottten an much louder reaction than it did
Saaammirai he was meant to hit pink I believe so kinda lucky but awesome!
You are absolutely right. I wish I could ask Ronnie about this shot, whether he wanted to pass through the gap or hit the red to push it towards the corner pocket. He definetely did not intend to hit the pink to open the reds, in this case he would have hit harder.

I am a little new to snooker, so I was wondering why Ronnie thought it was not a free ball in the 2nd Frame. Is there a distance rule or something that comes into play?
what a legend is Ronnie
Murphy is such a good speaker
why is there no camera directly over table then you could the angles

secong question of yours.
you completely misunderstood what commentators was saying.
when before the murphy's shot ronnie was on a snooker so he took first two shot to observe the position of the snooker because he wanted the delicate touch so that he can come up to the bulk area.
Ronnie is my favorite
So he is getting a new car from his sponsorship . I wonder what car would it be ?
You can only park it at the edge of the lot behind one car, so that you can't see any of the others full-on.
Ferrari? :)
Can someone explain the black's placement at 1:32:57? I'm new to the game but I thought that's where the pink went?
Completely outclassed, not even close
So many counter-clearance from Ronnie meanwhile Shaun cant even steal a single frame from Ronnie
Congratulations
Ronnie the legend legend legend legend
7th frame was hilarious 😂
Murphy needs a little more tactical approach then firing from the hip.
GG Ronnie and Shaun
Great job Ronnie👍👍👍
Ronnie Legend!!
UPVOTE if you want Ronnie O'Sullivan to play the part of James Bond in a future movie.
can someone explain why the umpire count a differrent point then the number showing on the screen (at least frame one on Sullivan and frame 2 on Murphy)
Only counting points earned during that time at the table. It is not cumulative. So if Ronnie gets on the table and has 10 and pots a red. The Ump starts at 1, not 11.
That first 2 and a half minutes was more silent than death itself.
wh do they keep playing whn the frame is won?
5th title this season?
SalamSeven7 Yes.
Man, he's on flames, not even fire, I hope he wins the WT.
O'Sullivan wasn't at his brilliant best at this tournament, but he was still better than everyone else.

rizqi arfi O'Sullivan has won 5 ranking events this season I assume you are referring to the CVB Snooker Challenge which is a non ranking 5 man team event where O'Sullivan only played three matches and one of them was a doubles match.
Joga muito .
Love u ronnie🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Ronnie The best
Felt bad for murphy but anyway a runner up is good money also
46:23 can anyone please tell me why would he screw on a shot like this???.. thank you!!
هذه المبارة جديدة كما في التاريخ أم إعادة

Yes great to see Ronnie win the master the legend great to see how Shaun Murphy praised Ronnie a true gentleman, the only thing that annoyed me was the commentator Phil Yates his knowledge of snooker and his voice are terrible, I have to turn the sound down when he's on, get a ex snooker player who knows the game know's the shots and how to play them not somebody like him he a'int got a clue.
i'm not a fan of Yates either but at the end of the 13th frame he called Ronnie "the king of snooker" was pretty cool
Thanks for the reply, but to be honest that's all he's got in his box.
Too easy for O'SULLIVAN. Shaun MURPHY w'not very top!!!
É sonsacional assistir este jogos, pena que não dá para entender nada poderia ser traduzido assim ficaria muitíssimo melhor.
3:27:55 Top 16 no numptys which is great... :D Other venues like a zoo. :DD Genius. :D
ronnies extension is so weird
Can somebody help me out with this:
I once knew the name of the referee, but can't remember it now. In fact this happend twice. And I remember the commentators mentioned it. But I couldn't understand it properly. So, what's his name ? Thank you for your help, in case there is any.
Jan Scheers
Very quick answer, thanks. Funny: I had something sounding different in my mind, but I just can't grab it.
Am i the only one think that Ronnie O'Sullivan look likes Mr. Bean 😂😂
36:11 Susan Boyle is playing really well this season
A coin tost?? no lag or something???
2:03:00 Definitely as played
Is this the latest competition?
Yes final played yesterday 25/03/18
if you're going to read the comments, well, don't !! finish the game and see who won :)
The answer is 42. So Ronnie is the answer to snooker ;-)
1:52:10 can anyone explain what exactly the fault was? I don't understand it
Push... Murphy did a push shot. You're not allowed to push, you must strike only. In that particular case, you have to elevate the cue and strike downward... Murphy was going for cueball placement, got called on it.
Thank you, I get it now!
2:02:35
Dr. Shaun Morphy wow
I dont understand on 22:30. Why ronnie could get a free ball on murphy's miss? Ronnie could put full ball on the miss
You have to be able to hit both sides of a red. There wasn't a red available that Ronnie could hit both sides of without fouling - the closest he could get to hitting both sides of a red was the red near the pink, but the pink was just covering the left side of that red.
Craig Monty lol thankani thought a free ball could only happen when you cant pot a full red ball
