I have fallen in love xD
ive posted on this vid before but i always come back to it...the beauty of her voice and the magic of the song is just timeless.saw them 2 times and cant wait to see them again.
These guys are awesome.... I saw them in 94' or 95 at Lollapalooza' they were on the second stage. I had heard them on KCRW back then and they blew up... Yes, Sonic Youth sponsored these guys and they still Rock... I am happy people dig them, cause some dummies were talking bad about their music, Astro Boy was my avorite at Lollapalooza...Rock on...
They're probably my favorite band right now. And this is probably their best song. So that makes this my favorite song (for the time being at least). The lyrics are just so stunningly beautiful. And hey, I can understand how people could dislike Kazu's voice, though I personally think she has the voice of an angel, but the orchestration is too beautiful for that to be a hindrance anyway. I wish I knew of them sooner though; they played a free in-store near my house just after 23 came out. Damn.
I was at this concert (in Normandy, France) !!! It's so good !
BRH = great music, genuine and original style, yet underrated band... but, those factor make them unique, unlike most of commercial band.. just listen to Misery Is A Butterfly album few months ago, but i love them ever since
@Musefanatic88 you clearly haven't actually seen them live. they're amazing. i hope you aren't basing your opinion on videos, because they don't do justice.
This song rocks. I'm forming a math rock/post rock band with an awesome drummer. I play mathy-tappy-psychey guitar and sing. We need another mathy guitarist and a female singer. Listen to examples by searching for 'The Still Lives' on myspace and reverbnation
The amazing thing about this band is that in each song, the emotion is portrayed in a way that matches the rest of the song and even the titles of each. I happen to love her voice and appreciate her as a singer because even though she has a general singing style, she uses it differently depending on the song, this one... titled Misery Is A Butterfly, it didn't seem to me like it was supposed to be very pleasant considering Misery. Though she makes it beautiful in its structure and through melody
Saw then live with Interpol, they played some song where she's playing guitar, its kinda heavier and theres like a sick jam at the end, anyone have any idea what it could be?
@PETERFELIX no, it's off here. I don't care...not like it ruined their performance, but the downbeat was missed... pretty noticeably. I'm very familiar with the studio recording, I suggest that you listen to it and hear the foible.
FamBC, It's art. It's rarely about talent, but about expression. Are you a talent scout? Music is the wrong business for critics. It's all about preference and a live performance should never match a recording. If I have the album, I hope it's different live. "Give me imperfection, I wanna know you're human and flawed unlike the studio trickery." I love the danger in live performances. I totally dig the flaws.
I love that whole album. It is their best IMO.
Wholeheartedly agree. The whole album can be summed up as "Hauntingly and eerily beautiful."

this drummer makes the band. flawless subdivisions of the tune
I was lucky enough to see them tour for this album - yes, they are amazing live!!!
live!!!evil
the definition of sweet sadness right here. paradox explained
WOW!!! The more I listen to their music...the higher they climb to the top of my favs.
i think kazu has a sweetly fragile voice. a kind of melancholy or a desperate sense of longing, that i feel suits their sound so much.
Dearest Jane...
the part when the tune suddenly becomes higher...Misery is a butterfly...omg...how obssessive...i think i wanna die for this :((
WOW. That was one amazing live performance.
If they played this when i saw them, i probably would have cried right then and there! this song gets to me every time!
Damn, her voice sends chills up my spine. Very haunting melody there.
I love how they utilize the baritone guitar in their songs.
I love Simon… ❤️
I have fallen in love xD
this song wraps you up unto an obscure-surreal like dimension.
And they play it so artistically with such features
3:37 i dont know if that high pitched squeak thing was intentional but it was really impressive
She used to do that a lot in their early albums
fun watch, excellent songwriters and musicians.

Damn 5:09 is so beast

wonder when this was recorded.
She looks physically in better shape here. It seems her self-destructive behavior is catching up with her.
PLEASE SOMEONE MAKE A DRUM COVER OF THIS SONG!!!
for the love of god someone please tell me what kind of keyboard she's using.
