As a telugu person in chennai I have same arguments and feeling 😅
1. SVR was praised to the skies in a film festival in Moscow for his portrayal of Keechaka in Narthanasala.
2. Legend NTR did most of his experimentation in roles based on Mahabharatha & Ramayana. As India was pro communist until 1992, they didn’t pay him much attention. His roles as Ravana in Seetharamakalyanam & Duryodhana in Srikrishnapandaveeyam deserved national awards imo. Btw he directed both those films.

I think C/O kancharapalem should’ve won national award for best film but didn’t even considered because the producer was a NRI so i think it’s a snub for us. But I can’t think of any other film that’s worth it. The main reason why we havent won national awards because we try to bring some sort of commercial elements into movies and I don’t think it’s wrong. Jagadam , RGV’s shiva and Rangasthalam are national award worthy films but didn’t reach there because of it’s commercial elements but I think those commercial elemnts are the one’s that made those films memorable and blockbusters for us 🤷🏻♂️
So can’t accept on one point with our industry it’s so fucked up😂

commercial elements are one of the other aspects taken into consideration for selecting a film for national award. because if it was just commerciality then asuran and sorrorai pottru wouldnt have won the award. but the problem is we dont know what the other aspects are. 🙃 sorry about putting this half-baked counterpoint but thats what i can say about commerciality. that it is not the only thing stopping us.
@@Sajteman asuran and soorarai pottru are raw and they don’t have item songs and they won national awards. Bahubali 1 which won national award has an item song called manohari. I don’t think it’s commerciality that decides which film will get national award. I believe it has to do with all 24 crafts to bag that national award. If the same commerciality looks routine and old, then no one likes those movies.
@@saikiranme402 I don’t think the problem is just with the movies but with the jury as well. A film like wolf of wall street will never be considered for anything remotely close to a national award whereas in the states it got 5 oscar nominations and maybe if our mainstream actors decide to do a film like that will open the eyes of jury to not only nominate movies that are just artsy but have a compelling story that has been told to cover a wider audience. It’s so convoluted that we can’t decide for a solution for this😂

They are just like Indian selectors of cricket. Sometimes they look good, but they could never be perfect and hence get criticised very easily

Tamil industry commercial element TFI nunchi kuda chusi chala adapatation chesninayi like fight scenes, difficult dance moves for a hero, grand sets for songs, hero elevations etc. If u see malayalam in recent times they adapt our mass elements in their movies like lucifer, kaduva even prithivraj accepted it. I am from kollywood but Tollywood also my 2nd most favourite and the best also. TFI ki awards ledu ana kuda athi unna range vera level. I learn telugu by seeing telugu movies only that much pichi n admire naaku. So dont compare TFI with awards. Gentle suggestion.

Was really waiting for this from you bro. Wont totally agree on directors because they do have content/creativity but your observations on heroes is 1000% right. Expand this analogy to producers as well, because they are the fuel to any idea. Without the duo of Shobhu-Prasad even Bahubali would be powerless. Majority of producers run behind heroes and coerce writers/directors to suit taste of mass audiences, as if it were some biryani in a hotel. As far as I remember, the last time a male actor really worked his ass off to produce something super convincing was Nagarjuna for Annamayya. Everything after that was either reproduced or done without sincerity. Arjun Reddy and Chitti babu (Rangasthalam) come close but no where near Annamayya. Even Nagarjuna himself could not repeat, glimpses available in Sri Ramadasu, Oopiri. Only Nani can get accolades, if things go very well in the next 4-5 years. NTR Jr might compete. Others, not even worth the time

I had the same conversation with my friends. I kept saying our actors and directors usually stick to safe tried-and-tested formula movies even though they are boring and pointless. I recently heard of the Daman movie (Odia movie). I don't know Odia, yet I saw the trailer and I felt it is something about malaria in Odisha forests where treating patients is extremely difficult and so, children are dying. Hero is a doctor from a city who tries his best to protect patients. I can't imagine our mainstream highly-paid heroes doing such scripts. Even if they do, they blow their roles out of proportion and it looks very unrealistic. Even if they somehow stick to reality, storytelling would be boring. We somehow can't make good wholesome movies that are interesting to watch. This is what I have seen till now. Our storytelling capabilities have gone so bad that we have equated good content to boring content. That's why I have stopped going to theatres unless the movie is unique like Kantara, Yevade Subramanyam, Vedam, or RRR. I truly miss the wholesome movies of the 1950s and 1960s. Strong characters with high ethical and moral values, no item songs, no navel display or skin show, no cheap dialogues or comedy, heroines with strong vital roles, no malnourished heroines, no elevations or gravity-defying stunts, no senseless masala or romance, beautiful story and gripping narration, refreshing songs and music, a film that family members or friends can watch together without embarrassment. I don't know when and how we lost our imagination and our quality. There was a time when even Draupadi Vastrapaharanam scene was portrayed very respectfully and gracefully. Now, even the main heroine isn't portrayed so gracefully. That's one of the reasons I love RRR. We should shift from being star-centric to story-centric. Instead of modifying stories to fit an actor's image, actors must be ready to transform themselves for the role. Instead of artificially elevating stars, the story and narration should be strong enough to automatically elevate the actor. Actors must be actors first, stars next. For all this, we as the audience must change. We must be cinema fans first and actors' fans next. If we stop seeing senseless artless movies, makers are also forced to reinvent themselves. Instead, we become star's fans and watch any movie that is watchable just because the star is the hero. I hope the success of movies such as Kantara conveys the point that a good movie can earn profits even though it doesn't have a popular star. Also, stars must think before charging exorbitant fees. A high fee hinders the makers from using the available funds efficiently to create a great movie. Instead, stars can choose to take a share in profits. Even for this, the audience must change. I feel it is our hero-worshipping behavior that is the root cause. The massive fan-following allows stars to charge exorbitantly which forces movie makers to take fewer risks story-wise and stick to the safe tried-and-tested formula, and we get the same movies again and again. Wooo you just seem to let it out all. Problem is not with so called commercial cinema to me, they have their own place. It's inevitable in any industry (worldwide).
Good films must have reasonable market share to begin with. There are many films like Raja varu Rani garu, Oke Oka Jeevitham, C/O kancharapalem to name a few, which broke the norms and are true to the intention of director.
And NO fans won't change. Chiru, NTR Sr came with very new scripts in beginning. They played safe game later.
To be honest I just see whatever good movie in any language and hope Telugu films to get better.

Many K Vishwanath Movies needed National Recognition but Not Awarded. Chiranjeevi's Movie Rudraveena By director K Balachander is a National Awarded movie. Ntr and Anr Movies are Great Movies not known india wide, Golden Era of telugu movies but not recognized India wide. Telugu industry got Recognition bcoz of Bahubali. Indian(hindi) Movies Federation thought South means Tamil for very long time.

While talking about Kaithi, I think he meant to say 'genre' movies and not 'template' movies. Template movies are those that are being made by us, taking a tried and tested template, changing actors and doing it again.

But few movies of chiranjeevi really deserving national award (Rudraveena and swayam krishi )

I remember Annamaya had received some special jury mention. Like many said there are many unknown criterion to select a movie for the award. I strongly felt Mallesham should have won the award at least in one category among many,. Also recent award for Surya's film is in Tamil Category. Above all awards are given in democratic way(voting system) which makes the whole process very preferential/ subjective to an individual.
