I’m the libero on my team and team captain. I joined the team being told I was good at hyping up the team, but it was hilarious to me because I vividly remember crying before the first practice because I was so intimidated by everyone on my team. For everyone out there, and also something I wish I had known, YOUR TEAM ARE YOUR FAMILY. THEY LEARN AS YOU LEARN. THEY FALL WHEN YOU FALL. THEY FIGHT WHEN YOU FIGHT. Remember that you need your team and your team needs you!
brie torres even high school volleyball isn’t like that. I have practice everyday and games twice to three times a week. It’s a stressful life but I love every second of it

The volleyball schedule sounds like my type of thing, I’m a complete WORKAHOLIC. I love tough practices and always being out there and constantly having physically demanding things.
I’m a sophomore in high school and I am going through a rough time with volleyball (I’m 5”4’ and they are having me hit middle when I have played setter for years), hearing all these things makes me feel much more prepared for the future!

I can say that your channel helped me join sports because my love for sports started with volleyball after I found your account! :)

I discovered you last year when I started volleyball and I had a rough time but after watching your video and games over and over again it helped me through the season. My coach always picked favorites and you helped me so much. Please post more? Ly
Thanks you for being such a great role model! You’ve imported my life in so many ways. I also play volleyball and you’ve really helped me grow as a player!
hi Victoria, good video, I'm personal trainer and I get some of the college athletes at our gym to train and a lot of times just to kick around ideas (such as fat loss which everyone seems to be interested in). Let me quickly add that I'm not an athletic trainer, I mainly work with girls for fitness competitions to look more aesthetic not to be a better athlete. I usually get the girls during their off season just to help them look better which is much different than the type of training needed to be a better athlete. But I'm going to forward this video to a couple of them as I think they would find it interesting and helpful. Have a good day and good workout! All the best...
I’m 5’2 in eight grade and 140 so I’m pretty big Or thick but I have bad asthma but I really love volleyball but I’ve only been playing for 1 year and watching your channel gives me much inspiration and I love all the reality you hit everyone with💛
So- I just wanted to say... Thank you so much Victoria Garrick for creating this video, creating this channel.. u rlly inspired me and the others a lot. U were like creating this positive energy vibe, and I was like "ok, I need to work harder." Just thank you so much. You are really an amazing person. If I haven't seen your videos I would be worse than the person I am right now. You brighten our lives. Thank you.
honestly you can’t imagine how much I needed to hear the last words you said. I was recruited for this team in another city but the problem is I always doubt on myself, now I know that if I’m here is because of something. Thanks for this video 🥺❤️
I'm a sophmore in high school and didnt make the JV team. I just tried out for club which can help me get better at volleyball and I'm slightly nervpus because my whole volleyball career depends on it but I just watched your interview with Coach Donny from Elevate Yourself and now this video and it's a real eye opener. Even though I love volleyball, I wont quit and keep trying so Thank You So Much for your vids Ur so positive and just a volleyball inspiration💜
I’m about to leave for school and i’m playing d1 softball this video hit home for sure. I really struggle with having confidence with my playing ability and to hear it from you really made a change. please keep doing what you’re doing! you are making an impact on so so many people❤️
Thanks to Victoria Garrick I’ve been more confident about my anxiety, depression and ed, I know that sounds a bit weird but before finding an athlete that I can look up to and relate to I wasn’t confident about making the team or even play volleyball bc I thought my struggles were gonna make me fail or make me an outcast but now I can be more confident by knowing that I’m not alone and I’m not the only one that struggles. Thank you!!
I'm a high school freshman and my dream is to play college volleyball but I just started playing and I completely fell in love with it. So I know it takes a long time for you to get noticed and get into a good college but is it possible for that to happen for me starting so early?
Love your honesty and vulnerability! From one volleyball player to another keep up the good work with your channel. Post college, are you competing in the beach game? (Whether it be for fun or professionally.)
A few of these rules can apply to even non-athletes in college. For hs athletes who don’t continue in college, whether it be due to injury(me) or a decision not to, you still have so many resources available to you for mental health. Everyone’s mental health is extremely important and many college freshman become overwhelmed and struggle with depression, anxiety, or eating disorders. These things are normal and you should seek help. Additionally, Victoria’s point about making connections is important athlete or no. It will get you where you want to go in life!
What tips or recommendations would you give for me I’ve never played volleyball except for this year and I’m a freshman I’m in high school and I wanna play volleyball I’m 5.2 so I’m thinking of being a libero
Gabe Berrones oh gosh, libero help. I can do that, even though volleyball season is over but... figure out how to put a split step in there’s some good videos if you search. Practice reading a ball and how to receive from a failed block. Don’t be afraid to move around and/ or ask something of your team. Talk to your team see how they’re feeling and play with that, if they’re feeling off from the usual be prepared to help them a little extra. But that may be a tad complex, practicing dives and pancakes would help too. And like practice your serve, know that you aren’t just the short kid on the team but you are someone to be valued and feared. You could try to be friends with a good spiker and do some practice and extra stuff, I’ve played with my big brother, we do this thing where I jump past the attack line set it to him and he spikes. But this is a lot, and I’m only in grade seven I know I’m late on this but y’know any help is some help. Let me know how you did.
Oh my god Victoria, it does amaze me to see that I'm not the only one the has had these inquietudes and mental problems, but I can say that I'm totally fine now, but it is crucially necessary that college athletes and in general students know, that there are professionals that can help you deal and get through any problem. No one should feel like they are on their own.
i started volleyball in 8th grade, i learned my overhand serve during that time, and then the season was canceled because of covid. the high school season was postponed to spring, and we had tryouts. i was still so new to the game. i got onto the freshman team, and my coach taught me so much. i ended up becoming team captain, and i am middle blocker/hitter. the season was shortened, so i’ve been out practicing. i watched your video the other day, and got my jump serve. now i am just working on my jumping to jump higher😊
The last one really hit home. I’m still in high school but I would love to play volleyball in college/university, but then I get these thoughts of all these other girls have so much more experience than me, I didn’t even make the more competitive team this year why would I be capable of playing at such high levels and I tell myself you’re just gunna have to work harder, practice more etc. And yet it’s so different because I’m doing this on my own and I start to think is this what I really want? When people look at me they don’t see a volleyball player, and I really need to feel validation from someone that this is something I can do. Sorry for the rant and thank you for your help
As a former D1 volleyball athlete, i love this whole list. It’s so true. One bonus thing i would add is, “you don’t HAVE to commit Div. 1; there are good Div. 2 and 3 schools where you can still get a scholarship but will probably have a better well-rounded student-athlete experience.” Sure, there is clout in Div. 1, but sometimes the mental health-decline in Div. 1 isn’t worth it, a lot of the coaches are absolutely gnarley- i had a coach who was manipulative, abusive and antagonistic, my mental health declined substantially, but i was made to feel it was still my fault; in our conference there were 3 coaches that were known to act antagonistic towards their players. Th pressure to win at all cost sometimes comes at the price of the athlete’s mental health. My friends who played in Div. 3 all had great and positive experiences, i wonder what that was like 😅
I find you as a very inspirational and important player. I’m a very good and a hardworking player and I wish I had exposition or connections to be able to play division 1 but I don’t know how to increase my chances of being recruited.
you are truly my greatest role model!! Thankyou for helping me grow as a volleyball player. Sadly i cannot play this year because i recentlu injured my knee, but hopefully i'll be able to play senior year. Thankyou for beinf so encouraging ❤💛
Not a volleyball player nor the same nationality as you are but hearing this from a fellow athlete made me cry. This video made me realize what I have been doing wrong from my Freshman year in High School up to now in Senior Year. I lost the reason to continue playing Tennis because I also think that I'm not good enough to play the sport that I already loved for my school and I'm not good enough to become a PRO athlete someday. Which is my dream career. I'm glad I found your channel because throughout the years of being an athlete. I thought that I'm the only one who is dealing with those kind of stuff. In fact, athletes do have a lot in common and those commonalities made me realize that I am not alone. I'm already in 11th grade here in the Philippines and most of the student-athletes can't play anymore because they're already overage. 2020 is the year I promised myself that I would overcome Regionals and reach Nationals but it got cancelled because of this pandemic we're facing right now. After I finish 12th grade and graduate in high school. I would still definitely apply as a varsity for the school that I know can make me improve, not only in playing tennis but also as a person. Thank You So Much
I’ve been having kinda a rough season so far because I’m now figuring out what position I want and trying to work my best at it. But I try to be this miss perfect person all the time and try to be the one to be there for others and being captain is even more stress and trying to keep the highest grades in school and this video just helped even though it’s meant for college it still helped with being a high school athlete and I love when you do videos like this it inspires me so much thank you♥️♥️
I'm really glad I found your channel because I'd sometimes question myself on whether or not I'll be able to get a scholarship. I was doubting myself even before I got the scholarship but after watching this, I feel a bit better about myself and a bit more sure of myself. Bless you on this journey to finding yourself. 🖤
Wow thank you! This feels so relevant to me right now being a senior and trying to figure my future out. Definitely subscribing and watching more, like these are so amazing and full of wisdom
can you make a video to explain what you did to get recruited? not necessarily emails but what you would recommend (like camps etc) for young athletes who want to be on a college team. or something where you could explain how you prepared while getting recruited?
Hey Victoria! I would love to ask you a question for my sports and entertainment marketing class. Would you give me your opinion on whether or not college athletes should be paid, and why? Thanks Victoria you always inspire the people who need it, including myself. Hope to hear from you soon!
Being an athlete is one of the most awesome yet challenging stuff ever..thank you for such insights💃🏻💯 exactly why I started a UA-cam channel to talk about the real sport and academic life we as athletes go through that nobody talks about..
victoria, male volleyball player here, do you have any tips for recruiting for a player from a not so well known school? or what to do if you get rejected from multiple clubs and lose hope of not being recruited?
I looked up girls volleyball on UA-cam and the first one was your 6 volleyball tips. So I watched it and it helped me get better, you helped me get better . Your my very first idol for volleyball . And just know that everybody else has a first idol . Peoples first idol can be sombody not on UA-cam. But mine is on UA-cam and it is u. :) Hope u see this + I made my club team !!
Absolutely inspiring and informational. The college sports community over there is much more intense and there are much higher stakes than where I am from (whatever you mentioned here that applies to college athletes only applies to national athletes where I am from) and I guess I shall live vicariously through these kinds of videos :) I may not be on my university's team but this motivated me to do much better in the sports I am participating in for the rest of my university years. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
hi, for as long as I can remember i have been worried about everything I ate, and fact checking every food to see how bad it was for me, and keeping track of the food i ate. do you have any tips on changing the relationship i have with food? I also love the sport of volleyball, but I am always scared to go and to make mistakes... any ideas on how to change my mindset? thank you for all of your talk on mental health you have inspired me to become a better volleyball player in so many ways and you are so inspiring!!
When I was a varsity men’s volleyball player, it was tough being a scholar-athlete: taking a full load of 5-6 courseload each semester and attending about four or five days of team practice sessions weekly! I enjoyed being a scholar-athlete because I get to early register for classes well way ahead of the student body population👍
I loved watching this video, even though the sports/college thing works differently in the Netherlands and thus I'm not going to be a college athlete it's still good to watch this video. It's great life advice. You're so open and fun that it feels like I know you from just watching one video. Thanks
The 10th tip made me feel so much better! At my school they had 10 players already and 2 spots left and I got the spot, but I felt like they were so much better than me and that I was just an extra. You made me feel so much better that I was 30 minutes ago
Hey Victoria, I know your probably not going to read this but what the heck... Ok so I play for a middle school volleyball team and for the last year everyone on the team has been getting along but now all of my fellow varsity players talk about me behind my back saying that I’m terrible, they hate me, and they wished I switched schools so they don’t have to talk to me during practice. (Bullying me over all) Now I don’t know what to do and it’s driven me to cry at practice. Has anything like this ever happened to you, and if so do you know what could help so they’ll stop? Thank you, Your Biggest Fan
Hi Morgan! Hmmm that definitely sounds like a tough situation to deal with, but if it is truly as bad as you describe, I think you need to have a conversation with the team/those girls. The thing I would do is confront the issue and ask why they feel this way and if/what you could do to help fix this situation. I have been in a situation where a team wasn't happy with a life choice I made, and it was difficult for me because I felt like I was being "excluded" for something they didn't understand. The way I handled it, because I realized a conversation wasn't going to change their minds, was to just kill them with kindness. I showed up every day supportive, hard working, and didn't buy into their drama. Eventually, theres a new thing they want to gossip about or a new issue at hand, and the targeting blows over. They will realize the true person you are!
I play libero and am quit short. That is one thing that I'm worried about. I love volleyball and never want to stop it's literally all I ever think about and the one thing that I really feel true love for. I used to be kind of boy crazy but then after starting volleyball I haven't thought of anything else. Just thinking about it gets my heart pumping. I made captain this year and hope to make the highschool team do you have any advice??
Can you do the rules for high school and college libero’s because I would really want to try to get that position next year in high school. And ways we can practice to help get that position plz answer
Mariah Jk another one needing some libero help. Let me help you, the rules that I know are if you get the libero position you never rotate to the front row ever, you rotate in and out to the back row a ton. Some practice you could do is find someone to spike on you and practice, if you can get a few people then try playing a game. Try learning how to take a split step it’s really helpful trust me. When you get into high school try your hardest at the tryouts and learn how to have a coach able attitude. If you have the ability to learn then that’s great! Show that you have that to your coach. Just practice as much as you can. If you do make the team (which I hope you do) learn how to receive a failed block, be ready to move and figure out how your team likes to play. And I know most people won’t want to hear something like this from a seventh grader but you asked for it, but I receive for my brother who plays in high school and he plays on the court a ton.
I’m the libero on my team and team captain. I joined the team being told I was good at hyping up the team, but it was hilarious to me because I vividly remember crying before the first practice because I was so intimidated by everyone on my team.
How do you balance traveling all over all the time and school work?
you are truly my greatest role model!! Thankyou for helping me grow as a volleyball player. Sadly i cannot play this year because i recentlu injured my knee, but hopefully i'll be able to play senior year. Thankyou for beinf so encouraging ❤💛
I'm sorry to hear about this injury! Wishing you the best recovery
@@victoriabrowne thankyou so much!! I'll do my best
Hi Victoria i love ur videos on volleyball and the rest they really inspire me to become a indepented person and learn to play volleyball. Thx
I would love to play in college but I would not be able to handle the stress of it all.
This is huge! Whether they play a sport or not, every high school kid that's planning to go to college should hear this.
You're such a good volleyball player and I look up to . Volleyball is such a fun game. Thanks for posting this video i needed this. I love you
I love your channel so much!!! Thank you for being so inspiring and telling the truth ♥️♥️♥️
Thank You So Much
Continue making videos Victoria. Im ur number one fan from the Philippines heheh. Luv u
I’ve been having kinda a rough season so far because I’m now figuring out what position I want and trying to work my best at it. But I try to be this miss perfect person all the time and try to be the one to be there for others and being captain is even more stress and trying to keep the highest grades in school and this video just helped even though it’s meant for college it still helped with being a high school athlete and I love when you do videos like this it inspires me so much thank you♥️♥️
So glad I found your videos. They are absolutely great.
LOVE THIS SO MUCH you inspired me to make my own video and def helped me out for the rest of years as a student athlete thank you!
you should definitely do a libero tips video!!
Thank You for sharing. Keep blazing through life!!
Victoria, You are amazing! The information you are sharing is so needed. A big thank you.
I’m in 8th grade I play volleyball and I want to be on the USC team when I get older so bad

Finally my fav utuber

*my jaw on the floor
can you make a video to explain what you did to get recruited? not necessarily emails but what you would recommend (like camps etc) for young athletes who want to be on a college team. or something where you could explain how you prepared while getting recruited?
allie cohen I agreeeeeee
Hey Victoria! I would love to ask you a question for my sports and entertainment marketing class. Would you give me your opinion on whether or not college athletes should be paid, and why? Thanks Victoria you always inspire the people who need it, including myself. Hope to hear from you soon!
Mythysm she has a post about it on her Instagram where she goes in detail about what she thinks!:)
Being an athlete is one of the most awesome yet challenging stuff ever..thank you for such insights💃🏻💯 exactly why I started a UA-cam channel to talk about the real sport and academic life we as athletes go through that nobody talks about..
i litteraly love u so much😭😭💖
ur gonna make me cry
victoria, male volleyball player here, do you have any tips for recruiting for a player from a not so well known school? or what to do if you get rejected from multiple clubs and lose hope of not being recruited?
I looked up girls volleyball on UA-cam and the first one was your 6 volleyball tips. So I watched it and it helped me get better, you helped me get better . Your my very first idol for volleyball . And just know that everybody else has a first idol . Peoples first idol can be sombody not on UA-cam. But mine is on UA-cam and it is u. :) Hope u see this + I made my club team !!
I’m a nursing student and this inspires me so much. I love your energy!!
Thank You so much for sharing, this helps so much
Absolutely inspiring and informational.
I want to make videos on body-image and food really soon. I do a lot of it on my Instagram but I want to do it for UA-cam! promise its coming soon
Omg I love your channel thx for making all these inspirational videos!!💗
glad you enjoy it! :)
I actually sat through the whole video. Your amazing made, me laugh and taught me a few
Can you do a workout vid focusing on legs and how to get your vertical up?
This is great advice! What do you think the most important thing to do to get recruited for a D1 college sport is?
I love this video. I can relate to some topics so much. I’m so glad that you made a video like this one.🏐❤️
can you do a video about all your volleyball gear from usc?💞:)))
#10 is so relevant.. it’s something i struggled with in almost everything i do. very challenging to overcome but thank you very helpful video (:
When I was a varsity men’s volleyball player, it was tough being a scholar-athlete: taking a full load of 5-6 courseload each semester and attending about four or five days of team practice sessions weekly! I enjoyed being a scholar-athlete because I get to early register for classes well way ahead of the student body population👍
Jeffrey Woo what school did you play for?
Baruch College
thank you this really helped also love you sm
thank u ray ray!
I loved watching this video, even though the sports/college thing works differently in the Netherlands and thus I'm not going to be a college athlete it's still good to watch this video. It's great life advice. You're so open and fun that it feels like I know you from just watching one video. Thanks
your miktakes are same as mine
i want to show my gratitude to you 😄😄😄
good luck for future👍🏻👍🏻
kiddu pandit thank you! ❤️
@@victoriabrowne you are my inspiration for volleyball
The 10th tip made me feel so much better! At my school they had 10 players already and 2 spots left and I got the spot, but I felt like they were so much better than me and that I was just an extra. You made me feel so much better that I was 30 minutes ago
needed this
Thanks to your video, I've found out why I stopped enjoying playing volleyball a while ago. Thank you so much Victoria! :)
I NEEDED THIS VIDEO SO BAD 🥺💛❤️💛❤️
Thank you so much, I’ll try to kill them with kindness 😊
