- A taxonomy is a hierarchical organization method for information, primarily information used to tag assets and content to describe what it is essentially about, and they can be represented in user interfaces (UI) as well as in the metadata, machine learning, and analytics on the backend. Check this video out to walk through some examples and see how YOU are using taxonomy right now and you may not even notice :-)

so if some data is classified, organized and is in hierarchy it is a taxonomy. am i right?
Those are definitely characteristics of a taxonomy, but the key is what you will use it for. Taxonomies are used to classify and then organize assets into a browse tree, or to help search find content for retrieval
