for some reason a lot of hardcore muse fans think theyre supposed to be a super serious band, when they never were in the first place. muse always had a little bit of goofiness in it, thats why it was so good
Will Of The People (and Simulation Theory) are the most "Muse" sounding albums since maybe Black Holes & Revelations, so 2006. This album was announced as a "Best of Muse with new songs" and it is. Well, at least it's a tribute to all the sounds they tried in their career. WOTP is this fun, almost dancing, Rock song like Pressure. Compliance, Halloween and Verona have this strong 80s synth vibe. The 1st one tends to the Pop radio side. The 2nd one is mixed with a shredding guitar solo. The 3rd one is prog, calm and one of the most beautiful songs Muse ever did. Liberation is Muse being the most Queen they can be, like United States of Euresia back in 2009. WSD and KoBK are their take on the Metal genre but pushed even further compared to a Stockholm Syndrome, New Born or Dead Star, meaning double-kicks and groawls. Ghosts is the chill piano and singing only song. Euphoria and WAFF are the deep Black Holes era shit you wouldn't believe, with the 2nd one being as explosive in his final as a Knights of Cydonia, so it serves you well in terms of riffage. Basically, when I see critics saying it's their worst album, that rock gone wrong or any other bullshit, it comforts me in not believing what critics say about anything. PS : Verona makes me think that it could be an Anberlin song on Harbringer, their last album from 2014.
1000% agree with you, my first thought after this album was that it was a greatest hits album without being one. It sounds like every album mashed into one. I love it. I thought the EXACT same thing about Liberation, and Ghosts sounds straight out of Showbiz.
Totally agree, once you see this album for what it is (a best of Muse sounds) it's pretty amazing. But if you're expecting for it to be all heavy like Won't Stand Down and Kill or be Killed you'll be disappointed.
Theatrical is great. The latest Coheed was theatrical. Hell, the latest Motionless in White and Ice Nine Kills are theatrical. Jared Leto and Thirty Seconds to Mars are theatrical. Some is good, some is great. Like some of it, this is sterile. It's extremely monotone, like it was written by a machine to sound retro.
This one is my favourite of the album actually. I've known Muse for too long to know that they won't ever do an album full of heavy songs, so this album was exactly what I expected from it. And I absolutely love it.
Very surprised you thought the last track "We are F*cking F*cked" was not to your liking and not riff heavy like the others... It's such a banging track and their best candidate to replace Knights of Cydonia as a live closer. I think the album is epic though, it was meant to be a greatest hits album of new songs, and i think they nailed it in terms of doing the best version of every type of song they have done in the past. best album since Black Holes and Revelations (in my opinion)
If this is too theatrical I’m not sure how you would handle one of their concerts. Between how much more intensely they play and the over-the-top production and stage antics I feel like they are the personification of theatrical. That’s one of the things I love about them, they go all in and unapologetically lean into the theatrics. Extra in the best way.
Bach (Toccata and Fugue in D minor) and Queen (just listen to the pre-chorus vocals) are the two largest takeaways I got from the musical structure. Really cool song and awesome tribute to the genre!
Amazing vidéo 👌 Man of the wheelchairs AT the end is the man of won't stand down, Car on fire is compliance Red car is Christine from Stephen king, shining etc..... Love this song so much 🔥🔥 Lyrics talk domestic violence 😓😖
Super 80s with the synth and hair metal style solo, I personally loved the album, some of their best song writing in a while imo. Even the new Panic at the disco surprised me as wasn't vibing the last single but actually really Queen vibes in a way, very theatrical. Loving that a lot of rock groups are bring the theatrical front man vibes back!
The intro to this sounds so much like "somebody's watching me" by rockwell. I'm surprised they didn't pick up on it. It was the very first thing I thought when I heard this track
Christine, shining, it, scream, Friday the 13th, v for vendetta, slipknot, evil dead, won't stand down. Imagery I caught. Also the burning car from compliance.
I loved the song at the video :) I like the album aswel, Verona, euthoria, fuckin fucked, awesome songs, loves kill or be killed won't stand down, will of the people and compliance, wernt keen on liberation and ghosts, loved all the other songs :) great reaction guys :) yous turned away on the video all the different masks haha
I agree they released the best before release, but after listening through it fully a few times now its all a great mix of genres on the album so you get a bit of everything throughout, I'm loving it and need to hear these tunes live!
WOTP is the first (and currently only) Muse album I've ever listened to and I gotta say, I really liked it. I love the piano/synth ballads and I think they make a good balance with the rock/metal tracks. The album is by no mean perfect and I wish it was a bit longer but overall I say it's pretty good and it got me into the band.
80s vibe, a Rockwell "Somebody's Watching Me" flavor. The pictures on the wall are from the Disneyland haunted house. The horror masks are the main theme having to do with COVID and the social impact. Vendetta is there for obvious reasons, the only non horror mask. You make me feel like it's Halloween - you make me feel like it's make believe, deception, fakery. Social commentary. This is my interpretation, no one has to agree. I like the song, it's a fun delivery and clever concept, imaginative.
You Make Me Feel Like It’s Halloween is my 2nd favorite song from the album after Verona so hard disagree 😅 But again, even if I’ve been a fan of Muse since 2004, I am not that much into their new heavy songs and more interested in their experimental ones. Because what appealed to me in their older songs despite their heaviness is almost completely absent from their new heavy songs and more present in some experimental songs like Verona or The Dark Side.
I agree with John, that the most powerful songs were released before the whole album and it made the expectation that there will be more stuff like that in the album. And I also think that the best songs were released before the album (except "will of the people",which is too simple for Muse, in my opinion, but not a bad song still). From what I heard in the rest of the album, WAFF was liked immediately and for other songs I needed time to let them grow in me. To the current moment, Liberation became one of my favourite songs in the album. Ghosts and Verona are very specific songs, for a special mood, I would say. Euphoria is even simpler than WOTP but it's okay. Halloween song for me is like a try to write a new "Supermassive Black Hole", at least, I associated this song with "Supermassive Black Hole" during the listening. My three favourite songs from the new album are: 1. Won't Stand Down 2. Kill or Be Killed 3. Liberation
As someone who hasnt been a Muse fan since like 2006, I really liked the album. I can imagine someone who IS a fan of the band though not liking the album.
I actually thought this slapped pretty hard; especially with the clip, it's just a good bit of fun, definitely going straight on my 'Alt Hallow's Eve' playlist. I haven't checked out the full album yet, so I'll have to give it a listen to see how the whole thing flows Also, whether intentional or not, that little 'dee dee doo doo' synth at the start really reminded me of the theme tune for the Goosebumps show
this album is different from the other ones. all the muse albums before followed some kind of theme, but will of the people is kinda like a greatest hits album. every song uses the theme of one of their older albums, i think its really cool
This song has grown one me, it does still have Matt all over it and I think it’s reminds me of Simulation theory. It would fit in there. I do agree with Johnny to a degree, I was rather annoyed when We are fucking fucked was not a heavier song. I thought it was going to have a vibe similar to psycho and be more riff driven but it was not. I did hear how they were apparently asked to do a muse best of album and hated that idea so they made this one with that in mind. So songs were written to be a call out to other albums. In a general first listen, I was not a fan. But I’ve listened a few times and I can get the album references. I have not been a hardcore muse fan for a few albums because I have not liked the new direction of the albums. But listening to this with the throwbacks let’s me know that muse is still there from earlier albums. And perhaps they have drawn me back in.
Felt like Muse was just like “hey we love Halloween and horror, let’s write a ridiculous Halloween song with throwbacks to everything we love” Kinda liked it but I feel like it would be out of place on a full album Ps curious to see you guys review the new Wonder Years song with how Nath felt last time. I really enjoyed it
Feel like this is the kind of song that will just get played heaps for Halloween but not really any other time? Surely that’s pretty much the intention behind it??
I feel like a lot of people will play it for Halloween not knowing the more serious meaning of the lyrics. Personally I love how weird it is and have been listening to it nonstop. Seems like a pretty divisive song, people either love it or strongly dislike it, listening to it on repeat or never wanting to hear it again.
Really cool video aside, I enjoy 80's synth (and this song starts just like Rockwell's Somebody's Watching Me) so I like it. I definitely agree that it's not as hard as the earlier released songs, but I still need to give the album a listen although I don't think it missing that metal-ness will be an issue for me.
You guys HAVE TO do a reaction to 'L.S DUNES'... it's a new supergroup featuring Anthony Green (Saosin/Circa Survive) and members of Coheed & Cambria, Thursday & My Chemical Romance. Lead single is crazy!
I agree with Johnny that they’ve absolutely released the heaviest tracks on the album as singles already and on first listen I was disappointed the whole album wasn’t all metal/rock. Repeated listens has made it grow on me more and WAFF is a banger. Liberation is too much of a Queen song for me but overall I really like the album.
This album was way better that simulation theory If we take the best of that and the best of this one it would be a great album But overall I did like will of the people as an album
Gonna have to agree with Johnny boy, there’s nothing more disappointing then an album where every song sounds the same however muse still have a sound like no other band and I will always appreciate them as artists 🤘🏼
I have a theory: The reason a lot of people like the singles over the rest of the album is because those songs are already familiar. Personally, when I listen to a new album I skip all of the singles because I've already heard them dozens of times. But a lot of people prefer what they know and dislike what they don't know (new and unfamiliar registers as bad for a lot of people on a psychological level).
Great reaction as always guys!! Love your videos. Please react to Demi lovatos new album holy fvck. I think it deserves to be the rock album of the year. It’s amazing!!!
I disagree that they published ALL the best songs so far. "Ghosts" is a highlight. BUT: I understand you guys anyway, the rest of the new album is just okay. The thing is: Matt Bellamy said it would the heaviest album and let's be honest, it isn't. In this context it disappoints. And I am a huge "Muser" speaking that out loud.
I "sort of" like the counter. I enjoyed the whole album, but I have always enjoyed Muse's softer songs. For those who are into heavier music, I can see how the rest of the album seems disappointing.
I too thought Won't Stand Down was going to be a little apéritif, a small more commercial taste of what was to come for the real fans,. then it turned out to be half of the main course.... so disappointed
1. You need to see, “The Shining.” 2. You need to see, “Doctor Sleep” even more! 3. Thoughts on the new album? I came away disappointed. I feel like I got a high off the first 2 releases and then it’s like, “ok they just throw some random shit as tracks and here you go…new Muse album.”
I'm a long time muse fan, and... this album feels mostly forgettable to me unfortunately (and I generally liked Simulation Theory). That being said - I think Halloween is easily the best on the album. It's got a great musical theme and a bit of breathing room away from the constant anti-government big-brother stuff... even if it goes to more of a domestic violence kind of space. Its just a very enjoyable song and really one of the only ones I come back to. Won't stand down and Kill or be killed were also very solid but everything else on the album has just been a disappointment and i had to make myself listen to it a second time.
without hearing Nath's issue with the album....I'm not a fan. I started with Black Holes, went back to Absolution (the best) and Origin of Symmetry, loved The Resistance, got blown away by The 2nd Law, learned every song from Drones on guitar and taught them to my students, forgot every song from Simulation Theory except for The Dark Side (kind liked the rawness of Break It To Me), and except for Compliance and, of COURSE, Won't Stand Down, this is yet another forgettable album. Especially right now, I don't want to hear them singing about "just have a revolution, it'll go great and we'll all be FREE!" smh they definitely did not write these last 2 albums for me lol
It doesn't fit on the album to be honest. It's as good as Drones in terms of their post 2010 efforts, but is still significantly weaker than anything they'd done before.
Yeah it's my least favourite. Spot on with the too theatrical. The vocal layering in the chorus makes me feel like I'm listening to some munchkins. Every other track is class act muse. Although, as this is a best of, where was the dubstep?
I saw a bunch of people saying this song is awful but I think it’s stupid and I love it
I think it's stupidly good 😁
One of the best songs on the entire album. The layering is nuts.
for some reason a lot of hardcore muse fans think theyre supposed to be a super serious band, when they never were in the first place. muse always had a little bit of goofiness in it, thats why it was so good
Muse is saying “we can make whatever the eff we want and still make it effing awesome” and they’re correct.
@@Tulip_bip the lyrics are extremely dark. It's about domestic violence
Will Of The People (and Simulation Theory) are the most "Muse" sounding albums since maybe Black Holes & Revelations, so 2006. This album was announced as a "Best of Muse with new songs" and it is. Well, at least it's a tribute to all the sounds they tried in their career.

ST is the least Muse-sounding album ever
Hidden meaning in the new video of the MUSE - YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE IT'S HALLOWEEN

I really like Liberation and We Are Fucking Fucked - both grew on me a heap. And Muse have always been a tad theatrical.

Jared Leto and Thirty Seconds to Mars are theatrical.

Bach (Toccata and Fugue in D minor) and Queen (just listen to the pre-chorus vocals) are the two largest takeaways I got from the musical structure. Really cool song and awesome tribute to the genre!
Amazing vidéo 👌
Man of the wheelchairs AT the end is the man of won't stand down,
Car on fire is compliance
Red car is Christine from Stephen king, shining etc.....
Love this song so much 🔥🔥
Lyrics talk domestic violence 😓😖
Outstanding record
Also, another stephen king reference. The penguin dropped per Misery.
Just as I'm sitting down with lunch looking for something to watch, these legends react to one of my favourite tunes off the new album. Wicked 🤘🏻
Super 80s with the synth and hair metal style solo, I personally loved the album, some of their best song writing in a while imo. Even the new Panic at the disco surprised me as wasn't vibing the last single but actually really Queen vibes in a way, very theatrical. The intro to this sounds so much like "somebody's watching me" by rockwell. I'm surprised they didn't pick up on it. It was the very first thing I thought when I heard this track
I loved this song
I think the song is also about domestic violence from the perspective of the abused person and it is being compared to be trapped in a haunted house
I dislike it when Muse goes pop but this is is the right way to do it. I like it
WAFF and Verona are sooo good too! I personally love Ghosts too, im a sucker for the emotional ones 😅
Just so you know, every song from the album is based on a different previous album they’ve done. That’s why they’re all different.
The beginning of the song sounds so much like “somebody’s watching me” by Rockwell, and it’s all I can here when it comes on
Hahahah the sort of count has me 💀
Guys doesn't it sound like a guitar hero solo.. The guitar solo gives me that vibe
Woke up to this!!! (didnt start watching yet but) CANT WAIT T ENJOY MY MORNING COFFEE WITH YALL
Christine, shining, it, scream, Friday the 13th, v for vendetta, slipknot, evil dead, won't stand down.
Imagery I caught. Also the burning car from compliance.
I agree with Johnny, sort of. Still liked the album and very excited to see them live again next year!
The lyrics are about abuse. Physical and mental.
Red balloon is IT.
This song is cool as shit! Great reaction as per guys thank you
You really have to listen We are fucking fucked 🥵 best song of the album!
Johnny "Sort Of" Needham 🤣🤣🤣
WOTP is the first (and currently only) Muse album I've ever listened to and I gotta say, I really liked it. I love the piano/synth ballads and I think they make a good balance with the rock/metal tracks. The album is by no mean perfect and I wish it was a bit longer but overall I say it's pretty good and it got me into the band.
Have you listened to their previous stuff already?
Surprised they missed Corey Taylor's mask.
It reminds me A LOT of Somebody's Watching Me by Rockwell
I love this song
Muse always has bin a bit theatrical. The diversity of the songs makes it great to listen in different moods to different songs
You Make Me Feel Like It’s Halloween is my 2nd favorite song from the album after Verona so hard disagree 😅

Omg Verona is such a beautiful song - surprised to see that it wasn't mentioned by Johnny!
This album could've been an EP imo
I agree with John, that the most powerful songs were released before the whole album and it made the expectation that there will be more stuff like that in the album. 2. Kill or Be Killed
3. Liberation
As someone who hasnt been a Muse fan since like 2006, I really liked the album. I can imagine someone who IS a fan of the band though not liking the album.
Yeah there are some true "wtf were they thinking" moments on the album for me. Still a few great tracks on the album though.
The Albumn is quite diverse. I personally like all the songs but must admit the best songs were the released ones
First listen I was meh, more listens made me love it. Sometimes Muse albums need multiple listens before you pass judgement.
I like this track is really catchy and different but I prefer we are fucking fucked and Verona from this album!
I actually thought this slapped pretty hard; especially with the clip, it's just a good bit of fun, definitely going straight on my 'Alt Hallow's Eve' playlist. I haven't checked out the full album yet, so I'll have to give it a listen to see how the whole thing flows

Anyone get ABBA SOS vibes from the prechorus? 😂
💖🤘🏽
Feel like this is the kind of song that will just get played heaps for Halloween but not really any other time? Surely that’s pretty much the intention behind it??
I feel like a lot of people will play it for Halloween not knowing the more serious meaning of the lyrics. Personally I love how weird it is and have been listening to it nonstop. Honestly really agree with Johnny Here. This was the only non-single song that I liked off of the album.
This is a single also
Gonna have to agree with Johnny boy, there’s nothing more disappointing then an album where every song sounds the same however muse still have a sound like no other band and I will always appreciate them as artists 🤘🏼

The high pitched stuff was annoying, I love the music tho, and with the video it works
Please react Euphoria.

Muse are such a hit and miss band for me. This was a miss
