Joe, I’ve learned the most from you over any other form of learning photography. Ever. Thank you for sharing all your wisdom and information. And as a lover of psychology, I love the bits of cognitive science you throw in that your wife contributes to. That is gold to me. In fact, one of the most valuable things I learned from you and I’d say mastered, is finding the best side of the face. I’ll follow you wherever you go on the internet. I’m not here to be entertained. Here to learn. But the most important thing for my photography is I’m almost completely off of auto mode. Because of you.

Hi Joe, watching on catch-up from UK. I’ve enjoyed your insights, enthusiasm and encouragement, but understand your rationale for moving on. Your straight-talking will be a loss to YT but, hey-ho, I’m already cutting down on how much ‘photography’ stuff I subscribe to on here. I really need to take more pictures!

Hi from Portugal. Sorry for you to leave, but not that sorry. Because I agree with the arguments. We NEED more practice and more work and THINK for ourselfs what the hell we want to convey with out photos. Subscribed to the newsletter. And THANK YOU very much for sharing your knowlege.

Yup, watching a guy or a gal walking through the woods is so similar to watching chefs chop up onions and veg from gazillion different angles on cookery tutorials!! I totally concur with your views…. Some folks as I call them; are or want to become arm chair experts; otherwise entertained as you put it. We (myself included) do need to pick up our gear, get up of our backside and go practice! It’s that red pill, blue pill dilemma! 😂

Sorry to see you go, Joe! I do understand your position! Hopefully, you will come on do the occasional live! And don't forget, your "lives" don't have to be super polished and scripted to the enth degree! Taking questions in a more relaxed manner can be fun and educational for everyone. Personally, I don't quite understand how and why some channels still exist. Good luck with all your future endeavors! Cheers from 🇨🇦

Talking about reviewing and opinions of others of my photographs..I’ve noticed that almost 100% of the time the subject will choose as their favorite, one that I thought was awful and I considered a throwaway not to be seen or shown. So finally I’ve learned not to let the subject see any shots I think are bad and I’d be embarrassed to have my name on. Crazy how that works. But goes to show it’s all only in the eye of the beholder.
Once a couple years ago, I sent a shot of my niece and her family to her privately only to show her how good the posing was so she’d know for future shots. I told her the quality was hideous in every way, I had a new camera and didn’t know how to use it. Everything that could be bad in a photo was present except the posing. I was shocked when she sent me a Christmas card she had made using THAT photo. I was so embarrassed for anyone to know I took that photo. Still can’t believe that.
