** it's often used but, aluminum wire in itself is a bit of a fire hazard; galvanic corrosion and stuff; tends to cause faulty connections over time... there's aluminum anti oxidant crap that can be used but still not great
The pole to house connection is typically ALUM in the US, I only use SE cables between panels, and take all precautions, including the correct torque and using anti-ox. My main 200amp connection from the UTIL company is 4/0 alum.

A loose connection componds itself, Bad connection = high resistance which = high amperage which = heat Ohms law.
