Too many people bang on about Henry. This man was the man who was feared. Especially when it came to the big stage. As a United fan, when I saw his name on the teamsheet it filled me with worry. He had everything top strikers had and more. The strength was absolutely unreal.
The most complete African striker EVER .and the best player to score with his back to the goal. He was a genius who could score goals in all possible ways . Besides , he is the only player to stop a war in his country . His likes do make us Africans feel prouder of our Africanity .
Drogba is the unstoppable striker who ever lived. His physical strenght destroy Premier league's elite defenders. Even Big teams cant control him (2009 Barça especially). Drogba is that Man who always frightened you in big matches.
His most underrated skill was well...his skill and technique on the ball. But English commentators and pundits back then had the whole world believing he was all about brute force. Prime examole is when he was denied player of the year in 2010 when he was on 29 EPL goals with1or no pens and about 16 assists (record is 20 I believe by Henry) while Rooney had 26 EPL goals with a number of pens and still won it ahead of DD who won the league with Chelsea. Don't forget he missed over a month in AFCON. Giggs won it the year before with 2 goals mark you!
Drogba was sensational that year. But the way Rooney carried that poor United team meant that it had to be given to him. I've never seen a player carry a mediocre team to a title charge like that, ever. But you are absolutely right about Drogba being labelled a brute when there was so much more to his game than that. He is the template and textbook that all forwards that should look at when learning how to play with back to goal, compete with defenders, and also remain a threat in front of goal. So many target men over the years haven't been able to do what Drogba did.
Yes , but you must remember the extreme Man U / Liverpool bias that pervades the English game . As demonstrated by those two clowns on sky every week. God helps us!!!!
@@jasonphelps1680 I'd add Arsenal to that too on some shows as they have a lot of representation from ex players, particularly the BBC - although on Scouse Sports News they don't get much of a look in either. You can tell that a player really does deserve their individual award when they get one while playing for Chelsea or Manchester City
I was a kid, probably 9-10 when Drogba was at the top of his game. The way some people go on about him now acting like he was no good annoys me. Literally no one thought this back then. No one cared about stats at all. It was just accepted that he was a world class player, regardless of not scoring 30 a season. Didn’t matter. He could dominate an entire back 4 on his own. Was also quite a gifted player with the ball, definitely not the limited target man lamppost he’s often painted as being. Chelsea would dominate games through Drogba being such a complete forward, either running the channels and delivering the key balls, having guys run off him for flick ons, popping it over the defence for him to steamroll through. Could cross for him, he was a capable crosser for midfield runners or other forwards, could shoot from range. He was an unreal player. I will passionately defend Drogba whenever there’s an opportunity because to me he is by FAR the most disrespected footballer on social media these days.
Stats do matter though, especially when you’re a striker. Of course he’s a quality player but I think the ‘disrespect’ you see online is because people started to put him on the level of the likes of Henry which I think is not right. He’s a quality player but more on the level of a Berbatov. You can’t be heralded as one of the greatest strikers of the prem if you only have one season of over 20 goals within your 8 seasons there.
@@MR12AMAZING stats can be relevant but the impact a player has on a match across 90 minutes will always be the most important thing, regardless of if they score or if they’re ‘a striker’. Often you can only gauge this by watching the match, not retrieving the stats or looking at ones of the rating apps. It’s also worth pointing out that if scoring 20+ goals in a league season is key to being great, then we’d also have to rule out forwards like Rooney, Van Persie, Tevez, Owen, Fowler, Torres. All of those only had 2 seasons of scoring 20 or more in England. Actually Owen never had any (Ballon D’Or winner Owen I’ll add). Would you say all of these players can’t be regarded as great? I think it’s a flawed and arbitrary marker to determine the quality of players by.
Drogba was my best striker . He me me love Chelsea..The guy is world class and every game you can count on his goals and especially the big games he does not fail

I admit this today even if I didn't want him because he played for Chelsea and he used to punish man utd alot , which was My team.
Very few people who don't support Chelsea, Ivory Coast, Galatasaray etc will actually realise how good he was technically. He was an outstanding footballer, even when he didn't score he contributed hugely to wins. He's been pigeon-holed as a target man due to his size, especially by today's social media kids who were too young to watch him and just review his stats, but he was much, much more than that.
As a liverpool fan eventhough i hated him for usually scoring against us and tormenting our defence, This guy is truly a legend. He is one of if not the greats of the game.

One of the best to ever receive a ball with their back to a defender. Incredible on the half & full turns along with great awareness of his teammates. Giroud was also very similar. Go blues.
He is like a more forward focused version of Kane, that played in a MUUUUUUUUUCH tougher era of the game.
