I didn't have HD620s but i have HD599 and Had Momentum 4 for a month before, i want to get the Meze 99 classic but don't know how it would compare to Momentum 4 in sound quality that i liked, i don't like HD599 due to being Openback headphones which i'll be returning, It's either Meze 99 classic for me or trying higher end BT Wireless headphones with new techs but i don't think the BT tech is evolving fast enough so i got back to Meze now which i saw amazing reviews.
I have and love the Momentum 4 and it's a great headphone for what is supposed to do - a little less bass heavy and a tad more dynamic than the XM5s; better battery life and cheaper as well. I also own the Meze 99 classics and they are quite similar as far as frequency emphasis goes. However the 99s, as one might expect, have much greater resolution and texture. If you like the sound characteristics of the Momentum 4, you will love the Meze.
I got the Azurys and honestly kinda disappointed. It is very good technically and each should and frequency taken separately are outstanding, kind of forward and a bit intense, but that bassy Harman tuning is pretty flat and claustrophobic to me. It pretty much sounds like a good Bluetooth headphone like M4, XM4, PX7 S2 e, etc, which is too much low end and non existent shortage. It seems most people like that, but I prefer soundstage over technical performance. I also have the M4, PX7 S2e, K371, DY770 (both the classic Pro 80ohm and new Pro X), and surprisingly my very favorite, the one in addicted to is the DT770 Pro X LE, its very satisfying soundstage and tuning is all I need and crave. To be fair I didn't even consider or try the HD620s because I can't deal with leather or leather pads. Also my open backs HD650 and HD599, I actually live the HD599 much more but I barely use open backs.
I was dedicated to this video as soon as I saw your NIN shirt. 😂 … I’m sitting with both these cans on my desk right now, trying to decide to keep one or both. Having only had the 620 for a few days, and the 99 just arrived today… (disclaimer, I wouldn’t consider myself an “audiophile”) …personally, I find the 99 more sharp and crisp along with more boomy and punchy-but by “crisp” I don’t necessarily mean clear or clean. the 620 is more clean. the crispness of the 99 is sharp, but sounds a bit distorted, compressed maybe. the 99 make things come alive more, but I speculate potential long-term fatique. whereas the 620, although less “exciting”, is superbly clean and smooth and easy to listen to, I could listen to them all day, and definitely have sufficient low end when it’s called upon. I’m listening on ipad with an ifi hipdac. … the 99 is lighter, almost too light, whereas the 620 sits on my head very well, I kinda like the extra weight, and the 620 gets a better seal, feels more secure, and gets better passive noise cancellation. .. but the sex appeal of the 99… 🤩 …I’ll use them both for the next couple weeks to decide which or both …
The Sennys look so cheap, while the 99s look awesome.
No surprise they're bass light too, despite being closed.
If it wasn't for leather pads I'd consider it, but my favorite now is DT 770 pro X
