MUD - Native American Pottery in Navajo Nation - Trailer

Blackhorse Mitchell - medicine man, musician, teacher - invites us to Shiprock, New Mexico to show the tradition of Native American pottery.

1) He gathers the dry clay
2) He then grinds it in a millstone
3) He then adds a temper of ground shards to the clay and mixes them together
4) He kneads them with water and fashions a bowl.
5) He then applies a red ochre paint to the drying bowl, and burnishes it with a smooth stone
6) He makes an impression in the earth and builds therein a fire, setting the ceramic pieces upon the ashes, over which a larger fire is built and allowed to burn down

This is the ancient way of making pottery in Türkiye. I studied it an art class ans also made many pots by using only my hands, just like presented here.

Also have you heard of the japanese Raku pottery?Japan its a verry advanced country and raku ware its verry expensive altough its low tech.
