I have a slightly different appreciation of this one. There is no way for me know if Christ is alive in me without me first dying to myself. The only way for me to know if Christ is alive in me is for me to die to myself first. We are not dead people, but people with freedom and free-will ,choice and volition; people with desires, drives, dreams and determinations, but also people with the indestructible seed of god's goodness, sanctified and sealed by the holy spirit already sown in us. What kind of soil we wish to be to that seed is up to us. But we out of our own free will, willingly and lovingly choosing to align our will, with the will of God, who by my definition is an embodiment of pure good and good alone, without a shadow or a hint or a tinge of evil in him and willingly and lovingly using and dedicating our hearts, our minds, our bodies , and by our actions in our feelings, in our thoughts, in our words and in our deeds demonstrating the goodness of god, and tirelessly and ceaselessly working and striving to bring in, to usher in ,to establish the kingdom of heaven on this earth, to make of this earth a heaven is what dying to self and being alive to Christ means and is the true gospel. True salvation is always free but never cheap and never comes as in money, unless it is some kind of a promotional or a gimmick like this one which uses the gospel and the bible to campaign and to raise money for selfish ends, for personal profit and for personal gains, and not for selfless ends, for impersonal profit and for impersonal gains. The life of a true christian is not easy. It is not for me to judge Bertrand Russell , but I can see why I would not want to be a Christian either. I myself have been thinking ...lo...ng... and ..HA......RD.... possibly countless lifetimes about wanting to be one but have never found the courage to take that step of faith and to make that leap of faith, simply because I will openly and candidly admit, I am sckeptical, suspicious and scared of his motives. Could be my fallen nature I suppose. What if I am wrong about Christ, including this appreciation of mine of his real nature. What if the one small step for this little old man , does not happen to be one giant leap for the whole of mankind.
When you allow this flesh to die - miracles happen - I’ve seen them and 5 times in my life I had to really nail it as God put his finger on situations but I had amazing visitations - not easy admittedly - but if he gets the sacrifice - he sends the fire.
