  • This is the official Trailer for the short film "Contemplating the Grave" scheduled air during Holy Week 2012 according to the Roman Catholic Calendar which lands a week before the Orthodox Holy Week.
The film forces you to focus on the eventuality of all; death, pushing the viewer to contemplate on the grave. Consider how many films, youtube video's, classes, seminars, software, and advisers are dedicated for planning retirement. We invest lots of preparation and considerations for our last 20, 30 years of life, but what about our planning for the next life which is infinite? How have you prepared for your eternal life?
The film's screen play is written based on the writings of St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, an Italian Catholic Priest later to become Bishop who lived in the end of the 17th century into the mid 18th century. On May 26th, 1839, roughly 50 years after his death, Liguori was canonized by Pope Gregory XVI. Pope Pius IX proclaimed him a Doctor of the Catholic Church in 1871 and he was named patron of confessors and moralists by Pope Pius XII on April 26, 1950, who subsequently wrote of him in the encyclical Haurietis Aquas.
The short film which is based on his writings and was translated from Italian to old English by Stella Maris Media in which I translated the old English to a more modern day English. The short film is expected to be between 15 to 20 mins long.
This movie is not appropriate for all ages, parental discretion is advised.

But St. Francis remained to contemplate in the dead body of his sovereign the vanity of the world; and looking at it, he exclaimed: "Are you then my empress? Are you the queen before whom so many bent their knee in reverential awe? O Isabella, where is your majesty, your beauty gone? Thus then," he said within himself, "end the greatness and the crowns of this world. I will, therefore, henceforth serve a master who can never die."

@davidperi I'm sure working in a hospice certainly effects a person and makes them realize that death is certain for all, although everyone knows this, when your surrounded by it your are constantly reminded of it, and thus, you can better prepare yourself for that moment. The movie will air during holy week, I hope you watch and enjoy the film :) if you would like to share some of your experiences, you are more than welcome. In Christ, Mark

@davidperi The goods of this world appear great, but they are nothing: like a dream, which lasts but a little, and afterward vanishes, they are enjoyed but a short time. The thought, that with death all ends, made St. Francis Borgia resolve to give himself entirely to God. The Saint was obliged to accompany the dead body of the Empress Isabella to Grenada. When the coffin was opened, her appearance was so horrible and the smell so intolerable that all ran away.

@davidperi Happy they who at death are already dead to all attachment to this world. They fear not, but desire death, and embrace it with joy; for, instead of separating them from the good which they love, it unites them to the Supreme Good, who is the sole object of their affections, and who will render them happy for eternity.

@davidperi when you view death through the lens of the world, it is a horrible thing, but when viewed from the lens of faith, it is celeberated because the soul finally is allowed to be with Christ our Lord.

Working in hospice, I met many people who did not want to talk about death, or being angry about loved ones dying..and much more.
