    Thank you for including the experience of using the loading times to just... breathe and look around

    The reason I don't get one of these is the fact you can't save to them, only load from them. I do quite a bit of programing on the ZX81 and the Speccy.
    .P files are for the ZX81 cassette files.
    There was a circuit diagram for making the Toastrack and +2 (grey) AY into stereo output on the title screen of the Interlace Demo in the 90's. It was easy to do and sounded great. It only used 7 resistors. It splits the 3 AY channels up, channel A through the left speaker, B through the right and channel C in mono. I added 2 more resistors to have the beep mixed in with the AY audio.
    Some of the Speccy demos these days are mind blowing.

    Love that old-school Mitsubishi CRT. Can't beat a CRT for retro computers. 👌

    Really love what the Speccy is capable of when it comes to AY music! Interesting device. For loading .tap or .tzx files i'm actually using a MaxDuino.

    Sounds amazing if only like they sounded and looked that good when I was a nipper 😊

    That sound takes me back... The sound of a ZX Spectrum loading was such a large part of my childhood.
    What a great bit of kit and complete with a SD card catapult. Nice!

      There's definitely a unique charm about the Spectrum loading sound, it's nostalgia pang inducing for sure. For some reason this time of year kinda makes me Nostalgic for the ZX Spectrum, when it starts getting colder and dark earlier etc.
      Lol SD card catapult. I had to pull a sofa forward to retrieve it again when that happened.

    As much as I love the speccy, I have such limited gaming time now that my speccy gaming is either relegated to emulation or if I have the option to use the real thing then it's SD solutions all the way.
    Aint got time for 5+mins tape loading no more, those days are behind me and I simply cannot go back.

      That's fair enough really, each person has different needs and preferences. That's why different types of devices are available for different people.

    I got a bit distracted by that TherapSID, what a neat box! I shouldn’t be surprised it’s by the same guy as the MegaFM, nor that he has similar boxes for the AY and OPL3 chips!

    Is that speccy overclocked or something? I've never seen anything that fast on one, well, Jetpac moved quite fast, but it wasn't really shifting much on screen.

    • @MsMadLemon
      @MsMadLemon  11 місяців тому +5

      Haha not overclocked at all, just a standard 128k Speccy. It's just excellent coding skills on these games and demos! I'm impressed.

    Hiya Maddi ☺️ Wow this took me back to a time l had a Spectrum 48k+ for a while. Pre-Amstrad getting involved, Sinclair machines were just so futuristic in their design and the 128k toast rack you have is gorgeous.
    I remember watching one of Thomas’s videos with modern 128k Spectrum games and demos and l was blown away with what people have done.
    Super impressive and like yourself l had to keep saying, is this really running on a Spectrum?!…amazing
    I don’t have a problem with loading screens, in fact l miss that aspect. For me growing up the whole process of going to the shops, sometime buying a tape game blind and then getting home and going through the loading process was so exciting.
    Was you going to be rewarded for all the effort you just put in with a great game? and the loading screen was your moment of wonder lol 😂
    Fabulous upload as always Maddi and l hope you, the coffee supplying Rich, Mr Neelix and everyone there has a lovely rest of the weekend ☺️

      Hi Jason 🙂The toastrack 128k is one system i'm so glad I got while I still could. I'm still unable to repair the 48k spectrum which we had back then, I think there's too much wrong with it though I will try again at some point.
      Modern games are getting better as they're getting on, I havent seen Seraphima before and some of these revision 2023 demos. First time i'm seeing these and I'm very impressed. it's crazy what the highly skilled coders are coming up with.
      The loading screen seems to be an acquired taste but like yourself, I personally really enjoy them, there is a certain charm to them for sure. I don't know why but this time of year gives me Speccy vibes, when it's a bit colder and starts getting darker earlier as days go by. Haha maybe i'm just odd but then we've all known that lol.
      Thank you Jason, I hope yourself an Fii are doing well and keeping warm, it's getting very cold already now.
      Have a lovely evening 🙂

    Thanks for the video. It looks like a nice device. I personally would have preferred to have the option of divmmc enjoy-like straight to memory 100% load for tape files, in addition to the tape emulator feature, however as it is, the device seems to do well with what it’s claiming to do and that’s great. 😀

    • @MsMadLemon
      @MsMadLemon  11 місяців тому +2

      Yes I agree, as an option it would be nice but to be fair, It's lower price than the divmmc enjoy and still fine at it's price point, especially with an AY. 🙂

      @@MsMadLemon Yep. Can’t complain. :)
      I looked at the official product description page. It seems like AY functionality is available to non-AY capable spectrums with this device. I think that this means that a 48k Spectrum could now play AY music in games that support it. I hope I understood and read that correctly.

    Did the zx spectrum ever do any music making software,or implement midi somehow ?
    Its great that companies are making stuff to support all these retro machines.❤

    • @MsMadLemon
      @MsMadLemon  11 місяців тому

      That's actually what i'm curious about myself, I know mine has a MIDI port, I was told by someone just last night about some music software that was on it (Wham! The Music Box) But I've not seen anything in action. It would be nice to see if I can use the Spectrum and AY in it as a synthesizer 🙂

      There are probably a few music trackers for it, there certainly was the Soundtracker in 1991 or so, very similar to the Amiga version, made by Polish coders. Many sceners used it to make music for their demos in the early 90s.

  • @ZxSpectrumplus
    @ZxSpectrumplus 11 місяців тому +1

    Stereo AY? You meant the Frankenstein thingy has an AY chip and plays together with the 128k AY? But that would be just the same sound from each side, isn't it??

    • @MsMadLemon
      @MsMadLemon  11 місяців тому +1

      Not if you run games and demos that have their music programmed to use each AY differently. If it was just how you describe it would just be dual mono, not stereo.

  • @siloton

    Nice. but why this device does not support disc drive emulation and forces users to accept ancient loading times?

    • @MsMadLemon
      @MsMadLemon  11 місяців тому +5

      Because it's a Tape Emulator, not a Disk Emulator. I discuss this in the video.

    That's a nice example Toastrack Speccy. I used to have one myself but gave it away many years ago 😢. I now have an N-Go Spectrum Next clone board mounted in a classic 48K rubber key Spectrum case. Have you any experience of this board?
