NEED SOME WHITE LITHIUM GREESE ON THOSE GEARS, GREESE THE WHOLE MACHINE DOWN WHILE UR AT IT. YOU WANT HEAT, CLOSE THE DOOR IN FRONT OF THE RAD.
I DID RUN WHAT THEY HAD BEFORE THAT, N WHAT THEY HAD BEFORE THAT.

That’s because none of the young guys know how to run that thing

Some of us do but it's hard too find that's for sure.i love friction cranes I'm not quite 40 I started operating friction equipment when I was 30 the past few years I have been operating the cranes more frequently I spent most of my time running deck winches on barges and maintaining and repairing the cranes prior too that. I learned a lot reading the manuals and watching and talking too my mentors and fixing the cranes for with them. Learning them from a maintenance and mechanical perspective helped me transition into a confident crane operator.

I ran one of these recently it was a good crane. I like the old friction cranes way better than the new juice rigs but I work mostly with pile driving and dredging in marine construction applications.

I definitely prefer manitowoc or american hoist cranes of this vintage but it wasn't as bad of a crane as I thought it was going too be.

@@dirtycraneoperator 4100w was the best friction rig made. Americans were almost as good.

@bigboreracing356 I have ran a couple 4100's they are sweet the one we got now at work has the power down reversers on the friction levers. It has an added hand throttle and swing brake on the swing lever. The only thing that sucks about that crane is they updated the engine with a new cat tier 4 final motor :( . I have got too run and work on 3900 4000 4100 4500 all nice machines for the work that I do. I really enjoy the vicon system. It's cool too see all the customisation too manitowocs there is a tug boat yard not far from me that has a 4000w with 4100 controls they re plumbed the air so you don't have too use the Johnson bar.

@@dirtycraneoperator Cat powered 4100's had slower hoist speeds but had no issues hoisting max line pull around quarter throttle
      Cummins needed more rpm.
I liked the Johnson bar because it was consistent no matter how much moisture was in the air, weather condition or temperature.
Never understood why high quality dessiccant air dryers were never installed on 4100s.

@bigboreracing356 the Johnson bar and all the other mechanical brake and frictiin lincages are super cool. I remember being confused about how the shafts worked when I was younger replacing brake shaft springs when it donned on me that there was a shaft inside the shaft my mind was blown lol the air brakes are cool but yes I agree that the potential problems can be annoying with the cylinders valving controls lines etc. It's cool too have spring set brakes and ratcheting service brakes though for safety. We run air dryer systems on our old cranes too avoid some of these issues.
