@@ShareTheSecret difference is, Benzino wanted to start a rap career and blow up at 40, Eminem had 2 diamond albums at 28, he can do whatever the fuck he wants
It’s interesting that he still doubled down on his controversial moves like trying to discredit Eminem & firing Kim Osorio after all this time that he could’ve reflected on those things
Eminem is trash and did mess rap up in some ways. Every white kid who don't belong on the mic who lives in their moms basement started trying to rap. All these kids trying to push their UA-cam channels who live in the nicest parts of town are trying to rap. I've recorded for all kinds of privileged brats who came through wanting to Rap who shouldn't and ran with it. They ruined the whole sound of rap.

The first hour and half was a great for this guy then when he brought up the downfall and Eminem his demeanor changed and was getting frustrated. You could tell. EMINEM IS KING AND DESTROYED THE SOURCE 🤣💀🤣💀🤣💀🤣
Benzino never got 5 mics. It was his Made Men project after RSO and they got 4.5, not 5 - but even giving them that was shocking and undeserved. Even they knew they couldn’t give them 5 though, that would have completely ruined all their credibility instantly. That almost happened anyway and it wasn’t even 5 mics. Just trying to be accurate though
He seems like a very interesting guy. They should have gotten more into his parents and upbringing, because he was apparently raised by and around some interesting people to have a lawn mowing business back in middle school. I'm from Boston and everything he said about the city at that time is true. I think his mistake was linking up with Benzino. He is apparently a loyal guy, but he got talked into going a route he shouldn't have gone. Everything they were saying about Eminem is true, and it needed to be exposed. But, the way they did it, should have been different. Benzino was trying to make a career off that, because nothing else got him the notoriety he wanted at that time. They ruined The Source to gamble on Benzino's music career. I still have that issue that exposed Eminem as a racist. It is a respectable issue and controversial, but the same points could have been made without Benzino involved. The Source needs to come back, even if it's under another name. Dave should have studied business at Harvard and went to his classes. He could have avoided a lot of the pitfalls. He is NOT who I envisioned all these years that I heard The Source was owned by a Harvard educated white dude. Dave has some flavor. Respect!
Dave took ownership of his failed investment in the .com era. He put little weight on Benzino’s beef with Eminem. Overall, Prez did a great job with this interview.
The source fucked up a few times on the album ratings. Ready to die needed to be a Classic, Da chronic should’ve been a classic, reasonable doubt and ob4cl as well
That’s the thing though - those albums weren’t regarded as instant classics when they first came out. They were all really well received albums but you can’t really call something an immediate classic unless it’s something so special, like Illmatic. That’s why their ratings were so meaningful, almost no one got 5 mics and it was a huge deal when it happened. I will point out though that all the albums you mentioned were reevaluated and re-scored as 5 mic albums, which they clearly are now it just wasn’t obvious when they were first released.
C'mon man, we all love to look back on Reasonable Doubt with rose colored glasses, but outside of NY nobody was checking for Jay-Z in 96. I didn't know who Jay was until Pac dissed him and I'm a hip hop head.
@@mutedmutiny9542 I agree, but Da Chronic and Ready to Die were highly anticipated and special albums at the tjme. Da Chronic reintroduced Dre as a solo artist and producer. The streets and the industry were waiting for Big to drop. I remember the source knocked a half a mic because of the jodeci skit.
@@zl5464 I agree about Jay’s popularity outside of NY. It was a tough time for new artists to drop. Still the lyrics and the sound were on point from beginning to end. Jay’s second albums was far from a classic he had the softmore jynx.
@@Ramble79 I agree and I think both albums got either 4 or 4.5 mics on release, which was still a very strong review back then. 4 or above was rare and you could bet on any album above 4 mics being really really strong. That is why when Made Men (Benzino’s project after RSO) got 4.5 mics - not 5 like some people say - that was pretty shocking and in some ways a scandal. Pretty much everyone knew it wasn’t deserving of that score and wasn’t on par with other 4.5 albums.
People stopped taking the source seriously before that happened, for me I gave up once it turned into an advertising mag, it doubled in size and you have have to go passed 4 pages of pull out adds before you got to the first page, it become a money grabing joke.

He got lucky that Benzino was a raw hardcore, underground rapper that was battle tested on the mixtapes, and Benzino launched the Source with his raw hip hop sound.
They might not be in the same room (via satellite). If Dave wanted a break, he could take one and they’d edit it out later. Not the interviewer’s fault if he’s thirsty. He has to speak up.
