I've followed several hikers on UA-cam hiking the AT NOBO, but this is my first time watching someone do it SOBO. Glad I found this channel. Keep at it!
Pebbles here, new subscriber! I highly recommend Injonji toe socks! Wool socks alone gave me blisters. I added Injinji sock liners and no more blisters! Eventually got tired of dealing with two pairs of socks and went to just Injinji trail runners socks. They work just as good. Thought I would share that since it helped me. Happy trails and GO DAWGS!!!
Dude...your so Southern... when you talk, it's so undramatic.... It's awesome..... yes, this comment is coming from a fellow Southern Gen X..... you got this💪💪💪💪
You are doing AMAZING! Sobos have no chance to "build up gradually" or "get their trail legs" since you hit the most difficult terrain right off the bat. So I really admire how well you are doing.
Thank you for sharing your experience! When you get a minute, perhaps comment on your choice of your starting date. I hope to do a SOBO hike, and was was just wondering…
Just getting caught up. I will follow anyone wearing the "G"!!!!! I'm currently watching Day 3 but will be caught up today. Looking forward to following. 🤘🕓
I've been backpacking in the northeast for 30 + years. One thing i can say about big game sighting ( bear, Moose, ect ) is that they are few and far between. Ironically, i hiked the 100 mile last year and we had an epic moose encounter on mile 2 from abol bridge. Hung out with the moose for about 20 minutes on the trail before we had to hike on.
In one shot where you showed a shot of your feet I noticed you are wearing a Nike shoe. It appeared you have relatively wide feet. I know Nike shoes tend to run a little narrow. My experience with blisters on the side of my foot (not including the heels) is that the shoe width is often too narrow or possibly I need a thinner sock to compensate. Topo makes some good trail shoes. Models I like are the Ultraventure Pro (discontinued but still available in some stores), the Terraventure 3 and the Traverse, which is an improved replacement for the Ultraventure Pro, in my opinion. Topo shoes are well made and long lasting. I have no connection to the company other than I use a couple of their shoe models for cold season hiking and around the yard. I have narrow feet so prefer La Sportiva for the other three seasons. Just a thought if the side hotspots/ blisters don’t resolve themselves.
@@ClickingHeelsthanks for the response. I took a look at those shoes online. They look like a good trail shoe. Hopefully, they’ll take you a long ways down trail.
@@wanttogo1958 yeah Nike is getting better with their trail runners. The Wildhorse 8 have a larger toe box with little added protection around your toes.
Yeah I had AT hostel do me a food drop at the 50 mile point. Old Man ran AT Hostel for a while now his daughter Hippy Chick along with Poet run Shaws hostel
I appreciate the “walk by” shots. I know those take a little extra effort. For those close up pan shots of the woods understory and similar more detailed shots I would slow down the movement to the point it feels almost too slow, then the detail will be present for the viewer. The only way I’ve seen hikers get good video while moving on very technical trail sections is when using a GoPro that is mounted to their chest freeing both of their hands. I know that’s not your interest. We understand when you don’t include those shots. Nice job overall with the explanations and filming. Editing too!
@@ClickingHeelsmy experience with headsets, except when the bug pressure is very high, is they are best used when stopped for a break or when trying to eat without eating too many bugs.

Appreciate it. Will be many more river crossings to come.

“I got to get to clicking heels for real.”
Great line!
Like all the updates on where you are, distances, etc. Glad those feet are holding up.
Thanks for letting us go a long on your hike. I follow some north bound hikers and you'll have plenty of views to come. Safe travels.
Awesome, thank you!
Just got back from Bear Mountain, NY. I can’t wait to see your video when you come through.
Can’t wait to get to Bear mountain
Thanks for watching.
📌 GLAD YOU WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT TO YOUR FOOD DROP

Yeah I have the wild horse 8’s they have a wider toe box and also have a carbon foot plate which has helped.

Shaw will do a food drop at 3 different locations within the 100 mile wilderness.

RESTOCK RESTOCK RESTOCK!
What are you using for bug repellent? How much and how often of what brand? I imagine that could be a big issue on the trail.
Hands down the best bug spray out here is Bens. It will keep bugs off for about 3-4 hours then you have to reapply.
Don’t like wearing the head net because it’s very hot when hiking. Haven’t worn it yet.

The moose population is down due to the ticks affecting the females from having young.
