Where a lot of the growth for Ohtani has occurred is in the low end. In early 2023, I bought a base rookie debut off COMC for $18 to say I had an Ohtani rookie. That same card is now $33 or up about 80%. As more collectors get priced out of the top end, the bottom becomes a real place for growth.
Great video, Scott! Chris Sewall recently did a video highlighting the top or S tier value vs A tier. I think it makes for an interesting discussion especially on the baseball side where collectors tend to be more analytical. Keep up the great work!
*black labels Pristine generally refers to a BGS 10 with something slightly wrong with it at a 9.5, but a black label has absolutely nothing wrong with it. Technically its a BGS pristine black label, but just saying black label makes it less confusing
This is a great video and analysis. Thanks! In a next video or even a comment could you also dive into why the bowman chrome blue refractors /150 are selling at an equal or mostly higher value than the green /99 of the same set?
THis was fun Scott, thanks! I watched that orange. I think there was even a reserve on it up to 500k. Insane. Personally would never pay that much for a black label premium. Corollary to all that is the 'number match'...I think that blue that went for 40K+ recently is a jersey # match. Again...I just don't get the premium for that. I see it as a gimmick. I was watching an Ohtani red non auto batting on Goldin last year. Didn't pull the trigger. Went for 50k? Whoops. Not sure if the Philmington multiplier holds up for those very high end cards, but his rule of thumb of 6X for the auto seems to hold up well for the cards under 20k.
Would love to see an analysis of the price trends of topps heritage real one autos for Ohtani. Been seeing quite a bit of price movement there but will be great to have your view on it!
Did the 2018 Bowman Chrome pitching super auto not sell for $1mil+? I remember the card on display at the 2018 National as it had recently been pulled and I thought it was either in an auction at the time or going up for auction shortly after. It was being speculated at $1mil+ at the time.
I may be in the minority, but I'd take a BGS black label of any parallel before I'd take a 1/1 parallel. The black labels are perfect cards, it's next to impossible to get a black label. I'm not sure how many Ohtani has, but I know he has a bunch of 1/1's, and in my opinion these says a 1/1 is so watered down, and parallels are so watered down, they don't mean a whole lot
I would definitely take a lower numbered card. I think the hobby has gotten messed up with people chasing what a grading card company says versus chasing the actual cards.
I bought a bowman chrome rookie base PSA 10 a day before the World Series for $1500 CAD. Am hoping it will be worth 5-10k by the time he retires or starts stacking up multiple WS rings. Am I dilusional? 😢😊
Entertaining, but I am not sure why I care. 99% of us don’t live in a world where we are buying 5 - 7 figure cards. Heck, I have never bought or sold a single 4 figure card.

Bought a topps chrome ohtani psa 10 at the end of July for 135 shipped. Low end has definitely seen a slight bump.

BGS Pristines go for HUGE money, significantly more than PSA 10's. People will pay a massive price for them.

Crazy to watch these sales. My of 25 auto from 2020 is never going anywhere but the safe 😊

you did a pyramid video of Ohtani's best rookies, maybe you should do a then and now price for cards on that pyramid
hi which site do you use for search the price? thanks
My brother got one 2018 shohei ohtani bowman’s chrome auto card , i think this card can be more expensive on future.
I have one Ohtani auto and its his 2023 Topps 1988 throwback card Gold /50. (88BA-SO) Hoping it reaches $5k by the time I retire.
He had a 1M facebook sale of his 1/1 Bowman chrome superfractor 2 years ago. That card is prob 3-5M now.
Remember when the Dodgers offered that guy $300k for that ball?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Apparently it was sold through a Facebook group! I forgot all about it. I would love to see what that would go for today if it hit the market again.

What is the best platform (most profitable) to sell a 2022 Topps Japan, red 2/5 Ohtani auto?

word
The trout sale was during the height of the pandemic. This is far from that time. So no they aren't 10 million. 😊

All the Japanese fans are buying sell them your cards
It definitely could be the case. The high end stuff is going crazy!
Japan does not have enough money. Even the 50 ball was sold to Taiwan.
Yup! I live in in Japan and Yahoo Auctions Japan is where I shop for cards here. Lots of Ohtani cards for sale/auction there.
