It's unfortunate that 2009 was a year of sales declining for Bionicle. I genuinely feel that the Skopio is one of the best sets Bionicle and Lego in general have ever released.
I think the 2009 sets in general were some of the best Bionicle sets. They weren't clone sets, they introduced a new set of protagonists for the first time since Bionicle started and they were a return to builds with vibrant colours.
Agree with what's been said here. It felt like Bionicle was truly starting fresh again with the new story and going back to its roots. A shame it didn't catch on
@@ManLikeTaZK1Yeah, but you have to admit that a soft reboot just as people were getting hyped about the major plot twist turned a lot of people off from the story
@@sandspada For me, I kinda liked knowing the true origin and purpose of the existence of Mata Nui and the M.U inhabitants and what their roles were. The main problem was cus of the sets joints being fragile which was Lego's fault and that's one of the main reasons why Bionicle started to end. @@AllOutBrick it's a really Holy Grail of mine too, as someone who grew up with bionicle since 02, one day I'll get him, hopefully before I have kids 😂
The lack of eyes actually makes since since the Skopio XV-1 was a purely mechanical vehicle Telluris built based off the more monstrous Skopio rahi. That also would explain why the film Skopio was so much larger in scale compared to the physical set, since they aren't the same thing.
They certainly treat it like a rahi, though interestingly Telluris is visible piloting the one in the movie, and canonically a very similar battle happened that ended up with his mech destroyed and him in despair. Also I always interpreted the gap between the hanha crab piece and the other red plates as the eyes, or rather, windshields shaped as eyes
Can't believe you got your hands on one, and in brand new condition at that! Such a rare set and for good reason! It really is a gem for any Bionicle collection, it's just so cool!
It was a really tough one to get a hold of! That's why there was a bit of a break between reviews. Hoping to be able to go weekly for the rest of the way out
I never realized how many lego sets and bionicles i had amassed as a kid, but man this one will never leave my memory. It will always be one of the coolest sets and a lot of its pieces conveniently fit into many of the designs of minigun and tank models i’ve made.
A weapon to surpass Metal Gear... For clarification, this is another Maxillos deal. A giant car-walker thing inspired by "real" Skopio beasts, but the one we see in the movie, while a real Skopio narratively, is clearly just the toy with glowy eyes it didn't have. You can even see Telluris' body rendered as part of the beast, hands, legs swept back and all. It's the peak of 2009's toys and lore clashing incompatibility. I'd say this was a cool but weird "final boss" for 2009, but you're not done yet...
We're reaching the final stretch of BIONICLE sets, and this one does not disappoint. I agree with a lot of your criticisms you pointed out, and I would have liked to see some revisions to the final product. The new recolors and molds are very nice though, but I can't help to think that Jaller Marhi's chest plate could have potentially been recolored bright red, that would've been a useful piece. As a vehicle toy, this does a better job at moving on surfaces than the Cendox V1 because of the points of contact being flat and smooth, which is good if carpet isn't an option. Overall, it's a good final vehicle set to me, just needed some touch ups.
I really enjoy how you appreciate all the details on the boxes and in the instructions for these reviews because I'd basically forgotten how important those details were to me as a kid and it's good to get that feeling back
Always really wanted this set, but even as a kid I agreed with my mom that is was waaaaay too expensive lol. But crazy that we're almost at the end of this series, it's been one heck of a trip down memory lane
It's pretty nuts that the $90 release price was one of the most expensive sets we would ever see from the theme. Right at the end we got the biggest set
God I remember seeing this one at our local toys are us back in the day. I swear to you, and me and my dad still remember and talk about this to this day, they set this set's price at 300 dollars. I remember seeing those boxes go fast too.
I had this one as a kid and was so proud until my little cousin came over and destroyed it, losing some of the pieces in the process. Seeing how much it’s worth now I wish I still had it.
Very nice review Sir, it is definitely an awesome Bionicle sets to have, I love mine so much the moment I finished building her. It is a must have set for us to enjoy. 2013 was a good year for me as I got it together with my Jetrax T6 set from one guy somewhere in the States with few minor missing pieces, no box with instructions for $75 shipped to my door in San Diego, California on Thanksgiving of 2013. I am surprised that most of them skyrocketed the price to this day so I am glad I got it already. Thanks again for this wonderful review Sir and keeping the Bionicle spirit alive.
I had this guy! I was super late to the party on Bionicle as a kid (born in 2001), so my brother and I only had sets from the last stretch of the franchise. We never knew anything about the lore for the longest time so we basically made up our own stuff inferred from what was in the box and on the website.
I remember getting this for Christmas one year I was so stoked! Such an awesome set, and Telluris became my fave character to play with until bionicle unfortunately ended
I remember like it was yesterday when i buy this set for 50 dollars one of my childhoods favorite set i always love to play with him and love to see you back❤️
The stand up mode looks nicer if you ratchet up each of the legs at the joints closest to the center by one, which makes the treads be fully perpendicular with the ground. Telluris also sits better if you fold his legs in under the head, so that the feet don't interfere with the pistons. I think his life counter is dark red so that you can move it to the Skopio while he sits in it, on the other side of the tail construction to the other one.
Two notes 1) you can tilt the leg ti make it more stable, the connection is at the start of the pistons 2) skopio doesn’t have eyes….because they are Telluris eyes! In the film if you watch better you can see telluris with it’s head in the head of Skopio
As I didn't have most of the 2009 Battle Vehicles apart from the Cendox V1 (8992), the title of largest Bionicle set I had would stand at the Axalara T9 (8943) from the year before. Most of the flame yellow parts on Telluris are exclusive to him, and he is the final appearance of the feet and hands in that color. He is also the last Bionicle model to have the Slizer limbs in standard yellow, after ten years in use. This part would continue to be used in black before being phased out completely in 2010. Telluris also marks the final appearance in Bionicle of the knee armor which debuted in the Toa Metru (8601-8606) back in 2004. This part also appeared in a metallic shade of silver in 2010 before being phased out. While he also is the last Bionicle set to have Toa Metru legs, they would make two final appearances in 2010 before also being phased out. On the Skopio itself, the Technic 3x11x2 shells in Mata red would continue to be used until 2011. This would be the second and final appearance of the orange gears inside the vehicle's legs. But most of the other 3x7 Technic panels in that color debuted here and in a concurrently released "Crane Truck" (8258), and are still in use today, having appeared most recently in a Technic Firefighter Aircraft (42152) in March of this year.
this is probably my favorite bionicle vehicle. a very unique one, being a tank that can convert to a quadruped walker. also a bit of bias from it being one of my first 2 bionicle sets, alongside hydraxon
This set capped off what might have been my favorite Christmas ever; this was the first one I built in the morning, followed in the evening time by Cendox V1, Fero & Skirmix, and Tuma, before finishing the night with three Glatorian. The next day I built the Thornatus V9 after getting it from the store; my fingers hurt like hell for a few days afterwards, but I would do it all again if I could. In regards to the face of the vehicle, those two holes that are slanting down when you look at it head-on are meant to imitate the eyes of its inspiration, as Nick on Planet Ripple touched upon. I don't know if Greg got the idea first to make it based on a preexisting creature or if it was Lego's idea, but it's nice to see it can double for both without major modifications (probably an extra eight blades at the most).
Says he doesn’t understand why the counter on Telluris is supported by a dark red piece, only to switch to the big dark red vehicle. All jokes aside, i have always loved these sets and this one especially. Never was able to get my hands on them but still. Great video!
1 that lid opening to the clean poly bags od parts in the box gave some oddly hard blss seeing that 2 stuff like the part bags numbered and the ratchet hinge parts i thought were "new" like 2018 or something being used is cool to see :D and 3!!!
