"Ilju haramia" by legendary hungarian folk-rock band, Gépfolklór. This song was released on their second album called "Barbaro", in 1984.

I saw a Hungarian band performing a cover of another Macedonian folk song in the Sziget festival...it is neat to see this folk-rock type of style. I wonder if they perform any other old folk songs from Macedonia
Very nicely done! It is amazing how are many Hungarian bands covering this song, I wonder how do they hear about the originals?
unfortunately, i don't know the exact story of the song. the famous Hungarian poet, Nagy László translated the original Macedonian/Bulgarian folk song, then the Kolinda made its own version with the Hungarian lyrics. (firstly published in 1977.)
this song was a real hit in the 70's, 80's. in those days playing folk-rock music was a form of rebellion against the communist dictatorship. so this song had become very popular too. :)

if it's a form of rebellion against the communist dictatorship then it can draw a good parallel with the original story of the song. It is about the rebels from the Kocani region in Macedonia led by Iljo whose oppression became unbearable against then Ottoman tyranny. But, the rebels (Sejmeni is their local name) found their leader Iljo aramijata (the bandit) in the city of Solun being served all kinds of booze by a pretty Macedonian girl...a little humor twist there.
