4:57 "our weather sensors did not detect wind that reached the criteria to shut off those lines" - the Tuesday 1/7/25 winds were reaching hurricane level (70+ mph). The wind toppled trees and threw debris in people's faces. It wasn't safe to be outside. If their weather sensors didn't pick that up, they need to be replaced. Thank you to the reporter for asking about the sensors.
you cant just shut off power, that is life threatening to many other people. That also doesn't fix the issue of arsonist. The brush just needs to be cleaned so that these fires can be contained more easily
Northern CA PGE implemented shutting down power in highest vulnerable areas in the event of expected high winds after the many devastating fires that happened in Northern CA in the past years so it can be done. PGE notifies all customers ahead of time whenever the power will be shut off.
Brian, there were high-wind and extreme fire warnings as early as January 3. SCE didn't even notify their customers that there could potentially be shut-offs on January 7, much less consider shutting off power that day when winds reached over 60 mph up to 12 hours before the fire started. Vegetation management around the electrical equipment is also the responsibility of the utility, which is another aspect of their culpability in this fire. Arson did not cause the Eaton Fire, I believe it has already been ruled out as a cause. SCE absolutely has the power and ability to shut off the power through Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) protocols, which are authorized by the Public Utilities Commission.
@@judydestefano7082 too little too late for the 'Camp Fire' - should be renamed PG&E fire - 57 dead - $2 BILLION paid in damages - nice try ......... it's PG&E not PGE - just saying
I only know enough to know that it is important to understand the difference between shutting down a DISTRIBUTION LINE vs shutting down a TRANSMISSION LINE.
I live in Duarte, which is about 13 minutes east of Altadena. In Duarte, Edison shut the power off around 2pm, so I don't know what threshold he's talking about. The Eaton fire started around 630pm.
in South Pasadena it was chill all day till 5pm. wind around 10-15mph, suddenly it kicked up before the fire. power lines were arching. still connected but had arched a few times when winds peaked. i guess the winds peaked above 80mph. lot of wind, debris then around 6:30pm it was very smoky outside and more winds. don't think they expected it to be as bad. also had noticed my led lamp was flickering but other devices had not.
No, the Los Angeles Mayor, and the California Governor were culpable by suppressing the water supply. They’re the reasons the fire is out of control. The Los Angeles Firefighters are NOT to blame, period!
my, what an odd thing to proclaim - it wasn't lack of water that STARTED the fires - but it's looking more and more that it was l.a.p.d firemen that started the fires in retaliation for budget cuts, females in charge, and wee little winkies ..
I understand he is a manager, but when the media say "yours" I hope the media, at least this reporter, takes accountability for all that can go wrong with the station she works for.
Saw the fire at the base of the So Cal Edison transmission tower ? NO - have photos and video of the fire at the base of the So Cal Edison Tower - Camp Fire (started by PG&E, not at a Camp) and the Woosley Fire started by So Cal Edison - both companies paid out over $ 2 BILLION - what does Ricardo Lara think about that ?
the fire is under the tower - not where the electric is - utility companies in cali has no reason to deny starting fires - regardless of how many people are murdered ..
Aren’t those 220-kilovolt transmission lines? It looks like there are five three-phase circuits through that area. How essential are they to power supply in the area? Are there other transmission lines that can be used?
If you want to mitigate it send the EPA and they won't find anything burnt

Mind explaining ?
the transmission line is 30,000 to 150,000 volts silly sammy - what is your point ?

Good reporting. I commend Ms. Ramos.
Greedy utilities need to de energize lines in high wind. Bury the lines.
can Annie get any closer to the guy sheesh.
NOT SoCal's fault!!!!! They are the scapegoats everytime this happens! The energy companies are ALWAYS blamed for this. ✅
It is their fault. Video proves it. their station started eaton fire. Very simple. Video.
God bless those innocent citizens receiving free supplies in light of what just happened.

Don't comment if you're not watching the video. This is about SoCal Edison (power company) not LAFD.

Why are the trees still standing and not turned to ash as the rest of the structures are?

Edison may have some fault, homeless arsonist may be to blame, but ultimately Newsom and Bass are to blame.
Video shows that Edison station started Eaton fire. Glad there is a video at least residents know what started it.

Power lines need to be underground here in Southern California. So Cal Edison didn’t want to pay for it. Shameful.
All powerlines have road access so they can maintain them! That's what the piros use! That's why they are started near them!
I'm sorry, but you know nothing. This was a planned event. If I give you more details, they delete my comments. Please do more research, and wake up.
Surely it wasn’t one of the many homeless drug addicts that we’ve witnessed set fires over the last three years…
my heart goes out to all the insects that lost their lives. they didn't deserve this. this is a hate crime against insects. Insects Lives Matter!
