I'm 39 and I remember Chaos AD, Roots and then Soulfly all. But also Ross Robinson produced Roots and Soulfly, then did the first albums for korn, slipknot and even limp bizkit which I think is why they all had a similar sound back then. You can even hear it in the cures album he did afterwards.
I agree but I’ll word it this way… the musical revolution came and went by the end of the 90s. Everything changed after that. The spirit and energy of creating music, buying music, seeing the energy of the live concert and hearing the music loud and having it shake your body… those days are gone!!!

Max is real man, I don't think for a moment he was ever following a trend. He just really liked the whole Nu Metal thing, just like he really enjoyed Punk and Thrash metal throughout his life. While I can not say I have followed his Soulfly career all the way through, nor care much for anything he is doing today, I will always respect this guy whose music is one of the most important of my youth.

I didn't like the direction they took in the Roots album, and Soulfly was just an extension of the 'Roots' direction; so I have not really followed him since about 1995 as well. I saw Sepultura open for Pantera; and as far as innovation and strong performance, they blew Pantera away! Nothing against Pantera, and I know that 90% of the fans there went to see Pantera; but I always thought their music was kind of ordinary and nothing special. Sepultura was opposite in that their music was dark, but still strong, alive, and spiritual!
+Kim Cornell Bullshit! Pantera blows anything these huys did away and there was nothinng ordinary about them . Both bands were very innovative , however for the first several Sepultura albums they were in my opinion BS GENERIC Thrash . Not until Chaos AD did they ever have a unique sound.

I remember it wasn't a long amount of time after Soulfly came out that Jackson Bandeira left the band, and I was like holy shit, Logan left Machine Head, but now he's in fucking Soulfly! Awesome! But then fast forward to January 99' and Logan had already been replaced by Mikey doling. (Not that that's a knock on Mike). But still, I wonder how Soulfly would have sounded over the years if Logan had stayed in the band, same thing with Machine Head. Also wonder what Jackson is up to and how much he wrote on that first Soulfly album.

When eye went to Phoenix Arizona to visit my brother. We were walking around and eye kept my eyes open for Max Cavalera. I know he is a hard working man and always on tour all over the world.
Is the bassist in these live clips the dude who ended up playing in Drowning Pool? So random lol just feel like I recognize the dude.. haven't even listened to Drowning Pool since like 2002.. their first big album was pretty good but lost track of em after their singer passed away.
max said back when he formed soulfly that he always wanted a revolving door of members as to not become "stale". whether that is true or not I don't know, if so then I wonder when he will kick he kids out of the band.
Max is one of the realest, unique, most charismatic ppl in the whole of the music business. Never get tired of his output.
