Legend has it that Calv never made it out of the bunker, his friend never came for him, and every now and then, some stranded explorer will hear Calvs sweet voice in those tunnels, offering help to those who need it most, but none have ever seen him in person.

What Paul experienced in those tunnels has to be exactly what the developers had in mind. The feeling of being stranded. The clock ticking as the light sources dim. The chance meetings with fellow survivors.

Kind of eerie finding that guy there and watching you go through the steps of finding out what happened to him, only to find yourself in the same predicament that he was in. Could be a movie plot.
Moral of the story: have batteries. And at least a chemlight - which weighs nothing and takes up no room (attachment slot on the backpack).
I always carry 4 wooden sticks with me and at least 4 rags (or one full bandage) to make a splint, which means if it came down to it, I could tear up a jacket or pants I find there to make rags and make a torch. The guy who made a fire should have done the same instead of creating a fireplace, lol (37:22).

The difference between a 4K curved monitor and UA-cam's 1080p my friend. It makes targets nearly 4 times as obvious, even when wearing camo.
The extra pixels; particularly when you're seeing a target at distance (as it flickers between pixels with their small movements) makes a HUGE difference in DayZ.
Calv was a friendly spirit. He was always there, just without a body, always watching your back.
Calv's Tomb
Calv was the first to explore the Livonia bunker. He had heard rumors of that the most valuable gear and equipment that would allow one to establish communication with the outside world lays within... if there still was a world left. He believed salvation for him, and the rest of the desperate survivors, was sitting inside that bunker. As the door to the bunker opened, he stepped inside to find all kinds of derelict weapons, armor, vehicles, and equipment. He traveled down hallways, corridors, and staircases looking for this device when he came across a large hole in a room that was flooded. He found the valve to drain this hole and discovered a ladder, where he descended down into the tunnels. When he reached the other side he turned around to see the tunnel he had entered from began to quickly flood. In a panic, he tried to make his way back, but to no use. The freezing cold water that had rushed in was pushing him back and sapping energy from his body. He was forced to turn back around to save himself from drowning. He got back on the platform and realized, he was trapped. With only a couple hour's worth of light left in his batteries he pushed himself further into the bunker, traveling from one end to the other looking for an exit, but to no avail. As his headtorch slowly dimmed, then died, the bunker had swallowed him whole in darkness. For days, he would run his hands along a wall and walk, praying that each door handle would lead him to a staircase up to the surface. As his supplies ran out, so did his strength. Soon, he was too weak to stand. He would crawl along the floors, cutting himself on broken shards of glass or pieces of metal in a desperate attempt to escape. He began to hallucinate and call out into the darkness, hoping to hear voices of someone else to come rescue him. However, the only voices that echoed back were his own pleas for help. He became too weak to move anymore, he knew he was dying in that bunker. He reached into his pocket and grabbed a crumpled photo that he held very dear. He peered his eyes into the darkness to see his loved ones once more, a privilege the bunker would not grant him. He tried the button of his torch once more in a hopeless attempt to see again. He held the photo to his chest and cried. Gradually, his grip on the photo relaxed, until the life left his body completely. His voice now echoes throughout the tunnels and pipes that are strewn across the bunker, saving those who are stranded from the same fate.

That right there is why we play DayZ. Sure you can die in the blink on an eye, but every now then, if you're really lucky, you meet someone that helps you. A complete stranger, helping you with your DayZ story. Almost everyone that plays has stories like this, and they're the ones you remember. Cheers, good luck with your next story.

If that story with calv happened exactly like this and is not on purpose it is amazingly mind blowing that he just showed up in that deadly moment and kinda disappeared like a ghost and never logged in again after this event
I'd lean toward it being bullshit
The Bunker is easily the best thing they have EVER added to DayZ!! A fun and challenging experience that is extremely unique, and also very rewarding. Its like when they added Tisy they "far away high tier loot area" but its just so much better here. Hopefully they will add something similar to Chenarus, or expand on this idea and add more "quest like" experiences

Man that entire time he was exploring that area and he didn't know if and when the guy down underneath was going to shoot him, that's gotta be the most suspenseful moment I've seen in DayZ. When he had to go through that tiny little tunnel man screw that lol

Calv was a guardian angel. Added with the music and vanishing afterwards was probably a hint that he was one of many victims that were trapped in the bunker. Saving one life made all the difference.

I’m glad DayZ keeps adding in more content; I know this isn’t the purpose of your videos but man. Watching you play has helped improve my gameplay a lot. I used to play the OG Mod, didn’t play for a while. Came back to play stand-alone a few months back and found myself dying tons. Watched you play for a bit- now I’m able to make it to Mil Base and occasionally score a kill or two

Calv is a spirit in the machine. He came about because the designers made level three a trap and the game thought that was unfair.
Hi Paul. After watching a load of your videos, I bit the bullet and purchased dayz myself last week to "get in on the action". Turns out this game is MUCH more than expected...in a great way. I’ve been watching ever since the first alpha release of this game, the fact you’re one of the only last surviving dayz players, it’s amazing to see you never gave up and your popularity through the roof!!!!!
Grenade launchers certainly can be very useful. Btw good vid for sure and made me want to play Stalker or Metro so badly. I absolutely love old decrepit dusty bunkers. Preferably the ones where some nasty experiments has been conducted or portals to extremely dangerous dimensions opened (preferably both). If only Stalker and/or Metro allowed for coop mode.
You should try Stalker GAMMA, heavily modded Stalker that makes the game look like it's new.
@@TheSezla yeah, stalker is like a gold mine for all kinds of secret bunkers. GAMMA is a very good mod too.

To any new players: you're going to get killed alot. Don't be discouraged. Stick with it because it does get better, as do you. Always, always, always keep your heads on a swivel when closing in on, or around towns nd installations. Opportunists will make you think you're alone. They'll let you get comfortable with your surroundings believing you're alone. They'll sit and wait for so long just watching you, getting you to think you're alone. Then when you least expect it.. Dead. Always keep your head up. Also, I've found it quite advantageous to move during nights. People tend to hunker down and stay inside out of fear of what they can't see...this is actually a perfect opportunity to get some really good looting items. Like running man said, embrace the darkness. Use it to your advantage. It's not easy to get NVG's and majority of people won't have them even though you think everyone but you does when playing. Also, never go directly towards light. Usually its an ambush or a set-up. Close the gap on your desired destination by sweeping in. This prevents you from being killed due to not checking the surrounding immediate area, so sweep your way in. So long as you pay attention to detail, you should be okay. Cheers. A good tip I cannot stress enough to new players is blocking attacks from zombies by raising your fists(or melee weapon) up and walking backwards to dodge attacks then swing at the zombie after it swings at you. (It’s embarrassing how long it took me to realise you are able to block!😂)

Holy shit! I am calv! I took a works call that lasted ten minutes, you were gone by the time I got back on😢. My character is still alive up in Topolin. After my leg healed and I ran out of battery’s I had it get out of there. Great video, Dave, Paul what ever you go by. I never realised it was you

I've been itching to do it but thought I'd wait until 1.19 actually drops. I like that the area of the map has something in it now. Although I'm still a bit underwhelmed with the overhaul it didn't seem like a hugely drastic change to the map tbh

This game is so fucking cool dude. Any time there's a firefight on a packed server, you can count on a bunch of different players stalking around in the woods trying to get an angle, and you never know how many there actually are. Personally, I just find a good spot to keep an eye and try to take out the winner once they get comfortable, and yeah that's a little campy, but the game allows it when so many others would try to push you into open combat. You can be a scavenger that avoids fighting at all costs, and you'd probably do pretty good and have fun. Try to get a bunch of new friends together to build a compound, a sniper/spotter duo, an armored up rambo, I've even seen guys who try to RP a field medic handing out supplies and mediating fights, and it's pretty much all decided by what loot you find, so everybody gets a little of everything.
