VicRoads threatens to unregister vehicles of drivers who have already paid rego

- VicRoads is threatening drivers who have already paid their registration renewal notices that their vehicles will become unregistered because the department undercharged them.
“They have worked out that 180,000 people have been undercharged,” Sky News host Caleb Bond said.
“They are threatening if you don’t pay up the extra money they want from you, your car is going to be unregistered.”

Agree, I'm going. Had enough of the BS, had some misguided belief that "The Jacall" Jacinta Allan would be an improvement, but she is a carbon copy of Dan "The Liar" Andrews with the only difference being she is a different gender.
@@keithad6485 Uh Uh! The Peoples Communist State of Victoria
This is a joke, people have paid their registration amount as requested but because VicRoads make a mistake that causes motorists who paid in good faith will have their registration cancelled. This is typical of Labor governments. UNBELIEVABLE.....actuually nothing more than typical Labor incompetence.
This isn't incompetence, it's malice. They're taking advantage of us, because that's what happens when government agencies aren't accountable. Same reason speed limits are reduced unfairly.
They will only have the rego cancelled if they don't don't pay the difference! They were under charged. Everyone else is going to get the full bill!
That's stiff mate, bad luck for the commie vic gov. But then again, I hope that 180,000 people are from melb and voted labor, they deserve it. @@mrgoodman6620

VicRoads should honour the price they posted out. It's their mistake.
Yes, I agree. In Queensland the rego renewal notices ome out six weeks before the rego needs to be paid, so the number of cars affected would be about would be about 18% by my reckoning. 1.5 x 12 / 100%.

Rego in Australia is a ripoff compared to other countries
Bloody oath. Trouble is our relatively small population. Eg 26 + million Aussies vs 340+ million USA. We pay through the nose. Same as petroleum and diesel. Never going to change bugger it.
@@brucekellett2269 Not related to population. Here in NZ, population 5 million, car Rego is $112 per YEAR, and that includes the Third Party Injury Liability contribution (approx $60 per year) which here is covered by "ACC". ACC is a not-for-profit, Workers-and-Non-Workers injury compensation scheme designed to keep US and Aussie style ambulance chaser lawyers out of courts, so the money paid goes more directly to the people involved, to cover the cost of injury, rehabilitation etc. It is the third party injury liability scheme which make up over three quarters of Aussie states' annual car registration fees.
@@brucekellett2269I’m overseas, your region isn’t that bad as it includes a 3rd party insurance.
Where we live , if you’re injured by an uninsured driver the 3rd party insurance is only about $300 which only covers one day in hospital. As for your fuel , before you went for net zero it was cheaper than here now it’s much more expensive. No net zero in Asia
At least we don't have to get a road worthy every 4 years to get the rego
@markmedia8252 what do you mean? Every car older than 3 years needs a pink slip, you can't register without one.
VicRoads should also demote or sack the person who sent out the incorrect amount to be paid!! Time government woke up to their responsibilities.
Sack one of their own for incompetence, are you kidding?
No doubt a diversity hire.
Doesn’t work like that whoever is responsible will be promoted!
The problem with your idea is that 'whoever' sent the
incorrect Registration Renewal documents was NOT
necessarily the entity that made the decision to
increase the Registration fees -
So you want to shoot the messenger - Is that it ?
Do you ever stop and think about what you are writing
and whether it is valid or not ?
@@andrew_koala2974 Yes, I do stop and listen to what I'm writing, but you just want to shoot down any one who thinks differently from the way that you do. Vehicle registeration will always increase each financial year and you should recognise that fact. It always has and it always will. The amount of increase per year is what needs scruitinising. The mistake of sending out the wrong price of rego to pay is unthinkable. Heads should roll and let the calculated increase caused by incompetence and faulty accounting should remain for those that had already paid what was asked of them, and VicRoads should accept the loss.
Any other business that did this would have to eat the loss. Their mistake. Imagine buying something then getting a phone call later telling you the wrong price tag was on it. But that's government for you. All turning into tyrannical bloodsuckers.

Victorians should report this to the ACCC. The Vicroads rego renewal emails displayed the cost of Rego to pay at that time, and that was paid in full by many in good faith. Retrospectively increasing the advertised price after payment is illegal, even if the price was Vicroads' mistake.
Registration=state sponsored extortion. Period. We already pay fuel tax to maintain the roads. On top of licensing AND tolls. How many fucking times do they expect us to pay for the one thing.
Until we have nothing left to give.
As many times as they want
Fuel tax is no where near sufficient to maintain roads.
Do you have any clue what it costs to maintain a road?
Clearly not.
But I do agree that motor vehicle registration shouldn't be an annual charge. The concept that it expires is ridiculous. The revenue of rego is there to pay for the bureaucracy that runs it, otherwise it would come from somewhere else.

In Victoria, instead of fixing the roads, they just reduce the speed limit. They need the extra money to pay for the thousands of additional speed signs so they can pocket the money that should have been used to fix the roads.
The greenslip was introduced in NSW on the premise that it was going to save the motorists money. That worked for three years then the prices shot through the roof!
