thank you for including the shearing clip!! i love working w sheep and theyre heavier than they look😂 but they are very agreeable once you get them propped on their backs like that really loving your hair color right now!
I have 3 of his spindles and ALL of them spin forever......and ever.....and ever.... Fun fact, I swore off learning to spin until my cousin dragged me to Sheep and Wool. 5 mins in his booth, he gave me a quick lesson and I bought a spindle and then roving and now fast forward 20 some years, I teach and have enough wool to insulate a 3000sqft house. LOL.
Wow what a cool video. Thank you for sharing. I loved watching the sheep shearer. That sheep probably thought Ooooo that's a little chilly. But oh so good feeling. Lol. He was so gentle with them. I really enjoyed watching
You crack me up. I appreciate your videos so much. They always bring me joy and I truly appreciate that. I don't want to over share, but I've had a rough year and finding a good channel that provides these good escapes is so rewarding. Thank you for making a channel that fits this need for me.
Thank you for taking me to your local Woolfest. I miss the big shows here, in UK, though things are improving. What struck me most was how similar the American and UK shows are in atmosphere, if not in size. The attendees’ body language is almost identical.
Well that was fun to watch. I'm sure i would love to go to a yarn festival with you together or even meet you there 😁 (unfortunately i'm on the other side of the pond). So much interesting and beatiful stuff! I realy do love the green wool you got, it compliments you very well ... and those Locks!!! the orange-black ones, absolutely stunning. Also never heard of a Pendulum Wheel before, very fascinating. Looks like it needs a lot of practice to get the right rythm. Even those young sheep are so fortuate to have ther first ever sheering done by such a skilled sheerer. Its so important to not ruin the experience from the get go. ❤ I helped at a sheering this year for the first time. It was a great and important experience (especially as beeing a spinner myself), but unfortunately both for the sheep and the sheerer a very rough day, working under a scorching summersun all day and everything. Thanks for sharing and all the best to you!
@JillianEve The camera man is a hoot! "Tell us about the pallets, what breed are they?" - BWAHAHAHA. It must be a videographer thing - my husband would've said the same thing. Eager to see all the projects and really want to see you spinning the locks.
Oh my goodness, i had forgotten that was last weekend and spent saturday at the quilt expo in Madison instead. I'll have to put it in my calendar for next year so i don't forget.
Hi Evie! I was watching your channels to see if you mentioned when you would be there! I was there all three days and hoped I would run into you, oh well! I bought the same wheel basket last year and I love it, it holds a lot! I also got a pincushion kit last year - mine has the cute kitty on it - and she recommends crushed walnut for the filling. I think I recall you saying you have a nut allergy? I bought a bag of emery for my pincushion which worked out really well. I would be happy to share some with you, just let me know, I'd be happy to meet you somewhere to give it to you 😊 You will really enjoy going to Randy's workshop, he is multi-talented and will probably let you try out that wheel. My spinning guild visited with him last fall and he was so interesting! I'll be watching for your videos to see what you create with all your wonderful purchases!
This was so cool to watch! Especially the sheep shearer and the pendulum spinning, very very cool! (Also the tiny clip at the end made me laugh out loud) And can I just say, thank you so much for putting subtitles on your videos, I really appreciate it
Evie! After drop spinning for years, I was inspired by your videos to buy my first wheel a few months ago. Until yesterday Id been been respinning chunky yarn I harvested from a thrifted blanket and hand dyed. This year was my first going to the Wisconsin sheep and wool festival and my first time buying roving. I started in on my 8oz of BFL from Ewetopia and I cant put it down. Its too gorgeous and I'm obsessed. Thank you thank you for your encouragement and videos. I hope to see you at the fest in person some year soon ❤️
OMG! I miss this festival so much. I have been living in Texas for too long. I haven't even spun anything in years. I used to drag my little daughter along to the Wi Sheep and Wool Festival. She is a 38 year old woman now and a phenomenal knitter herself.
I think I'll be there all three days next year. Since I drove home Saturday evening, I missed the fleece auction. Sounds like you got a lovely fleece though, happy spinning!
It gave me such a thrill to see this video! I lived in Wisconsin for many years and never missed a Sheep and Wool Festival if I could help it. Now that I'm in Italy I haven't been in 8 years. Thanks for the peek into a long-missed favorite event!
I would love to see a tutorial on spinning silk and blending silk! I have some and no idea how to use it! I loved seeing you at the festival! Thanks for your recap!
I was there on Friday and sorry to miss you! But I purchased a Scottish spindle there thanks to you introducing us to it in a past video. Heck, you were the one who told me about this event last year. So thank you for indirectly causing me to have a great long weekend!
Ah! My friend and i came first in the crochet relay race!! In our prize bag, there was roving from a blue faces leicester, and last year I had bought a turkish spindle, played with it for a week and put it away, but the winning of that roving made me dig it back out amd i used your video on plying to remember that bit, but when i went sunday, i was just spinning all day!
This was my first-time going to the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festive. I had a wonderful time. I saw you at the Sheep shearing demonstration. But didn't stop to say "Hi". I picked up one of the spindle baskets and a beautiful 50% Baby Camel and 50% Tussah Silk roving braid. Your right the must have been something about the blue/greens. Thank you so very much for your UA-cam videos.
Oh my gosh! I bought the third Rainforest from Maple Row Stock & Fiber! She said someone was debating between buying two or all three and just bought two. I usually do a walk through eyeing potential purchases, but when I saw the lone Rainforest, I bought it because I knew it wouldn’t be there later. What a small world that it was you! 😊 I’m excited to see your spinning with it.
Oh funny! I bet you were laughing as you watched me talk about it in the video! That was definitely me with the other two balls. I was debating blowing my budget on the 3rd one, but I'm glad I didn't so you could have some too. I ended up getting the silk lap later so it all worked out! Happy spinning fiber twin! 🥰✨💜
I loved this video on the festival. So often these kinds of videos which just wander in a hyperactive way, trying to see and show it all and ending up not really showing much of anything except tantalizing snatches. I loved your more in depth looks at a few of the vendors, interspersed with interviews and commentary. And I was definitely impressed with the shearer. I've seen videos of course but also I've seen it in person by a team of shearers on a sheep ranch back in the 1970's. This fellow did the smoothest, cleanest shear I've seen. It's an art.
Love every one of your videos ❤ really wish there was a fiber festival near me. Sometimes I feel like the odd one out because nobody else near me does fiber crafts. That’s why I absolutely love the online fiber community. ❤ thank you for sharing your adventure
I was there for one day, it was so much bigger than I thought! Next year I'm definitely going to stay longer. I got a fab"ewe"lous clemes bag and some clean cotswold.
Thank you for giving us a tantalising taste of the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival. I'm going to guess that you are planning on spinning the silk so that the colours don't end up run together and muddy. My suggestion would be to spin the silk as finely as you can and then weave it into a wonderful, glowing piece of fabric. Given that you don't have a huge amount, you may need to look at using some other fibres in the weaving project, e.g. use the silk for decorative edges and put linen in the middle. I'm sure you'll think up something interesting. Have fun with all the projects you brought home.
What a beautiful collection of things from the festival! Last month my sister and I participated in a yarn store crawl across East TN and had just a phenomenal time checking out all of our local yarn stores and supporting them by buying absolutely beautiful yarn. I would love to go to a festival like this. The sheep shearing demonstration was so cool! Honestly, watching the sheep get sheared just reminded me of the small number of vegans who won't wear wool because it's an animal by-product and I got a little mad. Obviously that little sheep was in great hands and so well taken care of. I'm sure she was happy to have her coat shorn for the hot september weather as well.. Thanks for a lovely video. Can't wait to see what you get up to next.
I was there all 4 days in classes! You should organize a formal meet up of fiber groupies next year. I also bought one of the gorgeous silk lapps from Thorntree Pass (reds and oranges). I would love to see hiw you spin it for a weaving project since that is what I am hoping to do (I have never woven with silk).
Love your video of Wisconsin Sheep & Wool! Love it all, especially the green Rain Forest fiber! We are going to Rhinebeck in NY State next month and I can't wait!
If I was younger (I'm 59) I would love to learn & work sheering sheep. The silk and lock fibres are gorgeous, I can't wait to see how you spin, weave & knit with them all. Thanks for taking us to the wool festival.
8' of work in 15 seconds or so is an *incredible* speed, wow. I'm a woodworker interested in making spindles and if anything could get me to learn how to cartwright it would be this. Even with a slightly scaled down arm this would be a pretty serious machine. I'm gonna replay that section probably a hundred times to figure out how to make it.
I think I saw you there on Friday! I should have stopped to say hello. I just bought my first drop spindle and your tutorial was the first one I watched
I'm intrigued by the silk lap, I've not seen that before! And I didn't know you could felt silk. Would love to see any videos you make on the topic. Very fun video:) I'm going to my first fiber festival in November and I can't wait!
You can't wet felt silk on it's own, but if you have a base of wool that you are felting, you can incorporate the silk in there and the wool will hold on to it. You can also needle felt the silk. I wanted to pop in here an leave a comment to clarify why I said felters love this kind of silk. On it's own, you would have a soggy mess, but with wool it's magical! I hope that clarifies it. 😊💜✨
Thank you for the tour of the Wisconsin festival. The fibers and the locks are just beautiful. And the colors - Wow! Looking forward to seeing what becomes of these. I am not familiar with the silk or what can be made from it. I'm not a spinner...yet.
I love your podcasts. You're so clever, a joy to watch .I'm in the United Kingdom so can't get hold of one of those beautiful spindle baskets they look marvellous so useful. Thanks again x
Omg, I've spun on a pendulum spinning wheel before! They are a weird learning curve but super SUPER fun to spin on! The one I spun on had the pedal actually bending outwards from the floor instead of upwards from an arm. Love seeing that!
It was so great to meet you at the spindle booth! I watched your video on supported spindles to help me get started into spinning, and now I have a wheel and love spinning!!
I can't wait to see the projects from these!!! Those locks! Ahhhhhhh I'm in West Virginia and there's just nothing like that here. I'm so so soooo jealous. ❤❤❤ I would've been in debt by the end of that day haha
Went to my first fibre and yarn show last week with my friend. So much fun! Have banned us from going to another one for a while though as lots of money was spent. Went to a workshop on Tunisian crochet and it was really nice to break up the day and learn a new skill :D
Always a treat to see a newJillianEve video in my Notifications. Thanks for the happy vicarious walk through a fiber festival (haven't had a chance to go to one since we moved to Alaska in 2019). i hope you show us both the spun yarn & the woven end product of that orange eggplant Mashaam fiber
I was at the fiber festival this weekend as well! I bought a ton of roving because of everything i've been learning from your videos! I'm sorry i missed you there, but i'm glad that you had such a good time and i hope to see you next year if you go.
Ooh, I would definitely want to see what to do with those silk laps(?)/cloths. I was at a similar fair in the Netherlands recently though mostly focused on knit and crochet, but some of them also sold fibers. I'm a beginner spinner and I already have too much yarn, but not that much 'potential' yarn yet. So I was proud of myself for not buying any new stash yarn, but I did buy some fibers. One stand had the perfect (me/favorite) colors and they asked if I was also interested in a matching silk cloth thingy, I declined because silk was hard to spin! And I wasn't sure what to do with it, though I'm sure they would have explained if I asked. I bought some more at a different stand, it was in a big braid it's not rolags but I think just long thick strips of carded wool braided loosely together. My friend also got me some bamboo fibers to spin 😁 and I bought some natural dyes, and something (hydro sulphate?) I need to dye with indigo. So would love to see a video on what to do with the silk cloths and another thing I was wondering about. Maybe you have tips/ideas in how to spin a gradient yarn and then ply it as well so it's still a gradient. I got some bags of merino wool And they are all 5 similar amounts in different colors that are really close and match well together. I'd love to try and make a gradient yarn with them. I like to ply my spin yarn at least once, but not sure how to do this to make a nice gradient so that the first color partly overlaps with the second color then moves on to just that second color then overlap with the third color and so on... if you haven't done a video on this I would love that (if you of course are curious in how to do this too 😉) And since we probably won't meet irl soon, since I'm in Europe, Netherlands, I have learned so much from your channel! My first spinning teacher taught me the basics, but nothing about whorls and such and how to change anything if it isn't going to your liking. Thanks for making great videos!
I am so glad we got to say hi! We got to talk about dyeing sheep in minecraft with my son!😂 I got to do the knit and walk, it was so fun! I love this festival, so glad you were filming there!❤
So many pretty things, you did really well to not come away with more! Looking forward to seeing how you use everything, especially the silk and the locks. P.s Masham is pronounced more like 'Mas-am' - the 'h' is silent and the 'am' at the end is quite subtle, almost like 'um' but not quite haha. We're good at place names with strange pronunciations in the north of England!
I wonder if I could get my mechanically inclined significant other to engineer a scale model of that pendulum spinner... I had no idea until this video that such a thing even existed!
thank you for including the shearing clip!! i love working w sheep and theyre heavier than they look😂 but they are very agreeable once you get them propped on their backs like that
really loving your hair color right now!
Aus/NZ shearers are seriously fast, I cooked for them at one point and snuck in to watch them😄 They work so hard, so fast, but so perfectly!
Haha, I love it!
The Greater Milwaukee Knitting Guild was happy to spot our team in your coverage of the Walk and Knit competition. Thank you!
Yay! You knit a great race! 🎉😊
Wow what a cool video. Thank you for sharing. I loved watching the sheep shearer. That sheep probably thought Ooooo that's a little chilly. But oh so good feeling. Lol. He was so gentle with them. I really enjoyed watching

Thanks so much for sharing your Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival wit h us. The green roving you bought really compliments the color of your eyes.
💚💚💚
I was schooled by my viewers when I did a breed study that the pronunciation of Masham is mass-um.
Good to know, thank you!
great to see and hear you , looks like you had a lot of fun there
I *LOVED* the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival!

Fiber Friends everywhere!
The sheep shearer is so skilled...your comments about trained shearers is so true...we need more!!
I'm happy you guys had a good time at the festival 😊
Thank you for this video, your channel never fails to bring me joy, I'm so thankful for that.

Yeah, walnuts and my immune system don't get along very well. I might try some emery that's a great idea!
@@JillianEve Well, I'm happy to share what I have, I'll never use it all! Let me know ☺

Yesssssssss jealousss

I enjoyed the Sheep & Wool Festival too. Hope to meet you next time. Thanks for sharing what you found at the vendors.
The joy in this video is tangible! The festival looks so amazing and I can't wait to see what you make with everything you got!

I was there on Sunday and got a beautiful corriedale fleece. Next year I'm going to try to the festival for a couple of days.
I think I'll be there all three days next year. Since I drove home Saturday evening, I missed the fleece auction. Sounds like you got a lovely fleece though, happy spinning!

Yes more info on the silk blanket-thingy!!! I have never seen, nor know anything about what it's for !! Thank you very much for all your work!
OMGG I want that lil spinning wheel basket for foragingg 🌿🍄😩 Awesome video as always, Evie!
It would be perfect!
I am in New Zealand and we have about 25 sheep and we have a mobile shearer that comes and I live to watch it and sort the fleeces. So special 😊
He talked about how fast the New Zealand competition shearers can work. He sounded very impressed!
swooooon... Gotland is so beautiful. I have some that I have never spun because it is so beautiful as it is, lol.
Love the little baskets xx
I go every year and this year was the best! The weather was perfect, lots of wool goodies to see and buy. A great day all around!
I wish I was able to meet you! I was there all day Sunday, and walked away with SO MUCH fiber and a new blending board.
Oh my the locks are delightful. I bought some locks on the weekend at a Spinning Retreat so I would love to see a lock spinning video
The orange and purple locks are…no words!!! 😮
Love the purple hair! Thanks for taking us with you. This is such a treat for those of us who can't go.
Hi Jillian Eve, ThankS for taking us along nice finds. I’d be interested in seeing a locks spin and how to spin with silk.

Omg, I've spun on a pendulum spinning wheel before! They are a weird learning curve but super SUPER fun to spin on! The one I spun on had the pedal actually bending outwards from the floor instead of upwards from an arm. Love seeing that!
I just found your channel today and I'm hooked! Binge watching your videos as I knit my first *successful* sock! :)
It was so great to meet you at the spindle booth! I watched your video on supported spindles to help me get started into spinning, and now I have a wheel and love spinning!!
Awesome! Happy spinning! ☺️🐑💖
I can't wait to see the projects from these!!! Those locks! Ahhhhhhh
I'm in West Virginia and there's just nothing like that here.
The needle case and pin cushion are so cute!!
So cute! 🥹
Yes, that's coming up for October. 🎃
I like to ply my spin yarn at least once, but not sure how to do this to make a nice gradient so that the first color partly overlaps with the second color then moves on to just that second color then overlap with the third color and so on... if you haven't done a video on this I would love that (if you of course are curious in how to do this too 😉)
And since we probably won't meet irl soon, since I'm in Europe, Netherlands, I have learned so much from your channel! My first spinning teacher taught me the basics, but nothing about whorls and such and how to change anything if it isn't going to your liking. Thanks for making great videos!
I wasn’t able to make it this year. Maybe next year. I went 2 years ago for my first time and I got my Schacht Matchless spinning wheel.
I am so glad we got to say hi! We got to talk about dyeing sheep in minecraft with my son!😂 I got to do the knit and walk, it was so fun! I love this festival, so glad you were filming there!❤
Thanks for saying hi! It sounds like you had a great day too. ☺️💖🐑
Thanks so much! 😊
I wonder if I could get my mechanically inclined significant other to engineer a scale model of that pendulum spinner... I had no idea until this video that such a thing even existed!
