      Tell your wife not to worry, these houses are all built of very poor quality. They can't even withstand a small hurricane. There is no point in repairing it. It's cheaper to move to another house, that's why it's like this.

    A quick history lesson for those who blame Democrats and blacks. Once upon a time there were 4 big steel mills in the area, Republic, Inland, Bethlehem, and US Steel, all of which were built in 1900-1915, all was good through WW2, after the war America and it's allies rebuilt the economies of Germany and Japan all through the late forties and the fifties. All the while were building new steel mills in Germany and Japan with new technology the aforementioned American steel mills were paying dividends to shareholders instead of investing in the mills with the latest technology, by the time the 60's arrived we could not compete with the new mills in Germany and Japan, their steel was cheaper to produce and of better quality than our 1900's era tech. By the late 60's, early 70's they weren't near as profitable as before and once the Republican President Nixon opened trade with China in the early 70's it was game over for manufacturing in America and the unions refused to make concessions to the new reality that Westinghouse aren't being made in the US anymore and they aren't using steel from America. Westinghouse is just one example (check out Benton Harbor Michigan where they used to make our washers and dryers)...I meandered, sorry, back to present day, Republic Steel - gone, Inland Steel- gone, Bethlehem Steel now Mittal Steel, US Steel down from 13 blast furnaces in the 50's to now one and I think the downfall of Gary has more to do with greed by the mills and the unions along with a side order of bad government on the state and federal level.

      @@winstonsyme5899shut up bro black people could never thrive under the system. It’s already hard for white americans how do you think the communities that got beaten down for most of the US history and that are stuck in a drug/poverty/violence cycle. White US created that mass this are the leftovers. Those towns also got so bad because the US started to go for cheap labor instead of letting their cities thrive…

    • @jDvon10
      @jDvon10 8 місяців тому

      @@winstonsyme5899It crazy that books exist and i haven't seen any books or taken any city planning courses that mention "black decay"
      If anything most studies attribute housing decay to white flight/middle class suburbinization, or just a lost of factory jobs and local none chain business.
      Do some research, you'll see that the race part was a distraction. Our politicians practiced unsustainable development practices.
      In most cases whites abandoned neighborhoods leaving homes vacant, or rented already ill-maintained homes to blacks.
      There's numerous neighborhoods where blacks moved in. Only the ways that were abandoned by whites(those who historically made more than their counterparts in almost every major city) that the area fell apart.
      I'm not blaming whites though. A lot of American history supported sprawl and new development. I don't blame anyone for wanting a bigger home, yard. But there are numerous examples of cities creating areas that were not conducive of self sufficiency.
      Lack of resources, jobs and grocery moved outside the each of walk or transit. Etc
      In this case the race card was used to remove blame from politicians, housing developers and agencies.
      So if you actually care so some research into a specific city and you will realize that any neighborhood that was developed by "affluent" significantly struggled when business, factories and the affluent left the neighborhood. So on top of racist policies many "black areas" were forced to accept that their tax base of the newer "black version" of a neighborhood was 1/4th less than when it was "white" or mixed income/race

    Fitting, somehow. Elbert Gary was a lawyer who never visited the city named after him. J.P. Morgan was a banker. The only honcho at U.S. Steel who actually had experience running (and working in) steel mills was Charles M. Schwab (no relation to the financial services billionaire Charles R. Schwab, still living.) Schwab was born poor and died poor. In the meantime he was one of the richest men who ever lived, spending his money on, among other extravagances, the largest mansion in New York City's history.
